  1. [beating dead horse] Brady Clark is brought in [/beating dead horse]
  2. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:22 PM) Yah. Look at Boone. Was awesome in ST, came up and got absolutely ROCKED. Was terrible at first. NUmbers in Spring Training don't matter. They might use them to help in their evaluation, but they have nothing to do with how a player will perform when the season starts. ESPECIALLY in Arizona. so being used in evaluation - which would imply they have meaning - makes them meaningless? Beyond that, numbers can provide how well players are making contact, who patient they are at the plate, how hard they are hitting the ball, how pitcher's stuff is coming along, whether they're leaving pitches up or not, how their control is, and multiple other factors as well. Actual numbers, such as ERA and OPS, should not be looked at nearly as much so as opposed to numbers like K/BB and IsoSLG. I understand what you're getting at; all I'm saying is that numbers in spring training are used and have use in determining how well a player is playing, even if it is just at the given time; in some cases, those particular players playing well at the time continue that throughout the year because they've added something to their game. The best example I can think of is Loaiza in 2003 - do you think, without his magnificent spring training, that he makes the roster? I don't, and I think many would agree.
  3. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 05:13 PM) He could be crap. Worst pitcher ever. Total bust. But no one here can use his spring training numbers to determine that, or to determine if he is major league ready. That goes for pretty much any player, with good or bad numbers. Spring Training numbers don't mean jack s*** bulls***. You don't think Ozzie is looking at Erstad's and Anderson's numbers and coming to a conclusion? It's pretty easy to see who's hitting better in Arizona when looking at the numbers. How about Boone last year? Does he make the team without the numbers he put up? Numbers matter, and don't try and color it any other way. They can be skewed, but that doesn't mean they don't matter.
  4. QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) Tom Kelly My kidney being sold on the black market tomorrow is just as likely to happen as Tom Kelly leaving the Minnesota Twins organization. He was not fired; he resigned. He then took a position within the Twins organization, and he won't leave.
  5. :puke if it costs anything more than garbage, it's a horrendous trade. He'll undoubtedly start, which would be just an absolutely terrible idea, especially if it's Erstad-Rowand-Dye in the OF. It would be good defensively, but so would Erstad-Anderson-Dye. He'd likely run himself into a wall and the Sox would have Anderson in CF by mid-May anyways, so I guess I'm not overly concerned.
  6. QUOTE(supernuke @ Mar 8, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) Most surprising - Charlie Haegar and his run for the Cy Young Award finnishing with a 24-6 record. Most Dissapointing - A.J. Pierzynski who will suddenly find his inner nice guy and lose his competitive edge. X-Factor - Jay Marriotti winnar
  7. Mike Caruso is a whore on the side, he told me so himself
  8. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Vazquez has great stuff. He's also a loser. It's his fault the offense didn't score for him in August and September?
  9. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Mar 6, 2007 -> 03:41 PM) Haw, haw! You tell em Rob Neyer! Thank god wins and losses aren't that relevant to the game of baseball. Honestly, what are people thinking? Yes I do. He will win 225-250 easy, especially if he moves to the NL for the next 10 years, takes a hometown discount, settles in comfortably and is dominating the worst division in the weaker league of baseball. If he could control it, Johan Santana would have been a 25 game winner every year for the past 3, and he probably would be a 25 game winner every year for the next 5. You are of course aware of the fact that pitchers do not control how many games they win, but rather the entire team is. All the pitcher can do is pitch as best as he can.
  10. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 5, 2007 -> 11:46 PM) Girls, Girls, you're both pretty. While my own list would look very similar to Rotoworld's, and thus my opinion is that the Sox have a very healthy farm system in that they probably have as many almost-ready prospects as any team in baseball, they have significant reservations as well. Here's something I wrote about a month ago for an upcoming THT preview... cheat saves the day for the 1087th time
  11. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Sam-Me homered for the Rangers and said, "It's good to get that one out of the way. Now I can relax. I was looking for that, so was everybody else." All or nothing again... mostly nothing... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...s&fext=.jsp no actually sammy I await the one where you hop and it's caught on the warning track.
  12. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 3, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Okay, fine, give up Crede since he's only got one year left anyway (and the Yanks don't seem to have any trouble dealing with The Agent Who Shall Not Be Named), put Fields in his place and Uribe's the odd man out. Settles the Fields dilemma anyway. And I think A-Rod's defense is partially problematic because he's playing out of position. That's just part of it, it clearly doesn't explain the 139571395 errors in a 2 week period last year. But yeah, it's a moot point because neither the Sox nor the Yankees are going to do it. Probably ever. 1. Crede's not a free agent till after 2008 2. Fields didn't make nearly the contact rate he should have at AAA and he'd probably be similar to Crede/Anderson in their first years offensively 3. The infield defense would be worse than mediocre on the left side, thus making the pitching staff worse. 4. ARod's been at 3B for 3 years now, so he shouldn't be out of position anymore. It probably has more to do with media pressure and pressure on himself than anything else. Point blank, I don't see any way that the left side of the infield wouldn't have been ARod-Uribe.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:50 PM) I'm so tired of this clown. The end. winnar Ozzie's mouth is huge, and he can't keep it shut. This was not something that needed to be said to the media, period.
  14. TMNT and NES. So TMNT on NES is ridiculous
  15. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) I got a 48... Though Geography was my subject in grade school. I was in the "Geography Bee" year in and year out, lol.. hell yes I got to the geography bee twice in elementary school, and the first time won it and qualified for the state geography bee where I finished 16th. And then the next year, I got sicker than a dog and couldn't take part in it, which really sucked huge balls.
  16. so let me ask...how are you going to get ARod without giving up Crede? It would be possible for ARod to be a 3Bman this year and then move to SS in 2008 with Fields taking over at 3B. I just don't see how ARod would have been the SS this year for the White Sox.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) The only pictures today are of Juan Uribe and Pedro Serrano. I say f*** you Jobu, I do it myself
  18. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) okay, okay, I'm on your side. but seriously, just imagine A-Rod over Uribe....sweeeeet... you mean ARod over Crede? Because Crede would have had to have been involved, and ARod's (likely) not nearly good enough defensively anymore to play a good SS.
  19. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) I realize not many here are doctors but I figure I will give this a shot anyway since it's a weird thing to search for on google. Just about everyday I wake up with facial pain and a slight headache. Really makes no sense at all. Anyone got any clue wtf that might be? have you recently punched a wall with your face? that does not help, I just could not resist
  20. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 12:33 AM) Yeah, he was officially s*** canned about 2 weeks ago. It's a damn shame really. are you retarded
  21. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 05:00 PM) Or the development of 55 players exceeded that of Danks. Looking over his statistics, I would hardly be overwhelmed without knowledge of his age compared to pitchers within the league, or adjustments made within various level (A,AA). Hopefully, our advanced scouts have absolute certaintly he'll be equal or greater than McCarthy....... So a player in Sweeney who hasn't put up staggering numbers and hasn't really hit well outside of the hitter's paradise known as Charlotte is being rated ahead of a pitcher who has adjusted to each level at an astonishing rate? I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but as I recall, Danks put up a 2.50-3.00 ERA after a few starts in AA. He may never be more than Cliff Lee, but Cliff Lee is pretty damn good.
  22. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) If Gil Meche can make 11 million, Howard should be making 60 mil. service time
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2007 -> 01:28 PM) And Bly is 1 year away from Free Agency to boot. Rotoworld reports that NFL Network reports that Bly has been signed to a long-term contract already.
