  1. would have sworn it was Boof the Goof, but I am just completely off base. Not only is Boof's facial hair darker, but his nostrils are bigger as well. This is going to piss me off when I find out, I just know it.
  2. Faith is what a person relies upon when there is no concrete evidence to back the claim. ...just saying
  3. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 10:08 PM) I'd trade him for Jorge Julio. absolutely disgusting Julio is a middle reliever who strikes guys out at a pretty proficient rate. His ERA of 4.23, WHIP of 1.32, and BB/9 of 4.5 does anything but strike confidence in me. Arizona raked the Sox over the coals for one great CF prospect, regardless of how good Vazquez can (and I think will) be, it's not time to let them steal another great young CFer.
  4. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 10:14 PM) What is with all the Podsednik hate? I don't like him or anything, but he wasn't 100% last year. Would I rather have Dave Roberts in LF and leading off? Hell yes. But then again, Podsednik can return to that 05 and 03 form, and hit .300, with a .350+ OBP, and steal 60 bags and have a 80% completion rate of doing so. And I can kinda understand the Erstad hate, but can we please wait until the season is two months through the season and see the results before we crucify the whole team? For all we know Pods reverts back to '05, and Erstad repeats 2000. Yeah, nothing in your post is likely to happen at all. Podsednik physically can't steal at 80% anymore, unless he develops Carlos Beltran-esque effeciency and reads on pitchers next year; you know as well as I that's not going to happen. And the only way Erstad will be quite helpful offensively is if he has a year similar to 2004. That is pretty much it, because as is, the Sox have a better CFer in AAA.
  5. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:02 PM) You're ludacris to laugh at that. not coolio at all
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) Maybe Young, but not Rowand. Just because someone throws themselves on the ground and smashes their face into a wall, it doesnt make them good. yep QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:05 PM) 2 starter caliber centerfielders were made expendable by KW's trust in Brian Anderson to be a solid major league centerfielder. WTF is the difference and to say that KW would probably take either of them over Anderson is sheer conjecture and has no place in this. yep QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 09:06 PM) In the same off-season, Williams traded the top 2 CF on the White Sox organizational depth chart. Young was the center of that deal. Williams was able to trade both Rowand and Young because of the franchises faith in Anderson. They felt like they were dealing from a position of strength. Guess not..... and yep
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 08:51 PM) HA! You should go back to the original 'Erstad Signs' thread and check out some of the posts in there. It was what 2 months ago and I had it as a foregone conclusion even then that he would be taking over for Anderson as the starting CF to start the season. This isn't exactly coming as a surprise to me. There was no way Ozzie Guillen was going to use the Greatest Grinder In Grinding History as a bench player, it goes against everything he's done over his 3 years as the White Sox' Manager. we definitely called this
  8. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 06:00 PM) Do we really know that? I know we all follow the Sox closer than anything in the world, but there are situations where guys are starting when they really shouldn't be doing so. Organziations fall in love with their own guys, force managers to play higher priced players over younger players, jettison troublemakers etc on a regular basis. I think we also get more focus on these kind of things for a few reason, such as playing in a larger market, with an active media, and having outspoken guys as GM and MGR, vs other organizations who would have covered up Anderson's transgressions. I've seen the Twins favor the veteran over the prospect; almost every organization does except the Marlins. However, what I've seen the Twins do that the White Sox have not is realize their mistake and make changes. The Twins had Kyle Lohse and Scott Baker in their rotation to begin last season; Lohse was sent down to AAA and eventually traded, while Baker was just sent down. The White Sox will have the ability to send down Danks or Floyd or Haeger or whomever, and that I don't doubt. But what if Buehrle has an absolutely horrendous start to the year, and he continues it into mid-May? Is the organization willing to take the bullet and the risk by trading him and inserting one of the many AAA pitchers the Sox now have? Beyond that, if Erstad and Podsednik look unhealthy, is the organization willing to place them on the DL even if they wish to and are able to play through the pain? The Twins have taken advantage of that over the years, gotten experience to younger players while letting their veterans get healthy. That last scenario is more likely to play out, but the Buehrle situation scares me. I would assume they'll have but no other choice than to trade him, but part of me doesn't see KW being able to do that.
  9. You can't tell me there's no reason at all to be concerned with Buehrle. He has a career 2.75 ERA in ST in 95 innings to go along with a 1.09 WHIP since 2003. This year, he has an ERA of 11.00, a WHIP of 2.00, 3 HR/9, and he has been absolutely torched. Buehrle is probably the pitcher that worries me the most right now. Just seeing these lines, and seeing what he did last year, I can't help but fear he could easily be the Sox worst starter this season. I just hope he does something to prove that he's perfectly healthy and is full of confidence; as is, I don't know what the hell he can do.
  10. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 04:53 PM) Two perfect examples of meatballs that have missed the gravamen of the argument. In no time, the prospect-fanatics will arrive and complete the obliteration of intelligible baseball discussion. I have finished here. I get what you're trying to say here Addy - there's a state of morals and ethics that players have to live up to, and Anderson may or may not have ever accomplished/completed/otherpasttenseverb'ed. I understand that. But what you also need to acknowledge is that Ozzie Guillen, more than almost anyone else in baseball, has played favorites when favorites should not have been played. In 2005, why was Timo Perez ever presented the opportunity to leadoff, let alone be in that position for almost a month? Last year, why was Podsednik not moved down or out of the lineup when the Sox had 3 superior options within the system itself in Gload (as bad defensively and twice the offensive player), Mackowiak, and Sweeney (and perhaps even Fields and Owens as well)? Basically I ask, what is the priority within the Chicago White Sox organization right now? to win? or to be a high character, give 110%, no bulls*** organization, favoring the veteran, regardless of the record on the field? Ken Williams has told me and the world that the White Sox want to win; why is Ozzie putting the White Sox in the poorest position possible to win?
  11. I just want some flying monkeys
  12. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 12:43 PM) I personally thought that the Freddy Garcia trade would initially bank on how hard he was throwing in the spring. If he regained his velocity after a full offseason, big mistake; if not, then not. I'm really interested to see how he does in the NL. it was Buehrle or Garcia.
  13. worst news of the day that I could wake up to. Time to hope for a 3.50 team ERA again...you know, Ozzieball!1!1!!!!!!
  14. QUOTE(beautox @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 03:31 AM) Tyrone probly thought that guy was gonna pee on his leg
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 11:08 PM) FREE MIKE JONES PERFORMANCE AT IOWA STATE I still would not go in all likelyhood
  16. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 02:29 AM) I refuse to call a grown ass man Coco. I've been calling him Covelli since the day the Indians called his skinny ass up and I will continue to refer to him as Covelli until he retires. Same goes for John Bonser damn it. Larry Jones hates you
  17. QUOTE(ScottyDo @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 02:16 AM) On a completely random side note, when did people start calling Coco by his full name? It's not nearly as funny...I'm boycotting Covelli. call him what you want I say. I'll always call him Coco
  18. QUOTE(shoota @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 12:09 AM) Peeing on someone's leg is a good way to get punched in the face. Even by a rookie. wish you would have told me that sooner
  19. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 20, 2007 -> 12:19 AM) WRONG! I think when Kalapse comes out with his final formula you will see that you need to be a little white guy to be a grinder. Castillo and Ichiro end in vowels. Sounds foreign to me. wait are you trying to say that black people can't be grinders? you know Jesse Jackson will disagree with this formula
  20. let him throw 5 innings in a split squad game coming up, and if he handles it relatively well, send him to extended spring training and let him throw 6 along with Danks and Floyd. Let the best pitcher out of Russell, Danks, and Floyd win the 5th spot. If I were Ozzie, I'd break camp with 10 pitchers and go with all 4 of Pods, Erstad, Terrero, and Perez. Perez's bat could help the Sox a ton during that stretch until April 11th when the 5th starter is needed for the first time. Then Mr. 5th Starter comes in and you figure out the roster situation from there, whether Erstad's already on the DL, or you just have faith enough in Mackowiak to play CF once a week (and no more than that).
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:52 PM) Actually Duffy is really good and I am expecting a big year out of him. He was de-railed during the first half of last season due to injury. In 05, and the second half of last year, I think he has an overall average over 300 and OBP over 350. Let me look it up real quick. His highest OBP for a month last year came in September. If Aardsma can be looked at as a mediocre pitcher because he beat up on AAAers in September, Duffy can too. We'll see. His minor league numbers tend to look like they translate to a .270/.340 right now, which is Erstad/Pods territory. I'm not calling them good offensive players, and I haven't for some time now. I don't question whether he's a good player long term, I question whether Duffy-Wilson is better than Pods-Erstad, and really, it's not better. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Do the Pirates really count as a major league team anymore? They are beyond horrendous. Barring something catastrophic within the division, the Bucs are going to finish last or second to last in the worst division in baseball. I'm not sure they do. They do have uniforms, so I guess we have to count them.
  22. I SAW 2 THAT WERE WORSE, SWEAR, THERE ARE 2 OF THEM WORSE Pittsburgh probably will go with Duffy-Wilson, and even though Duffy can actually steal a base, he is horrendously bad about getting on base. And Wilson is like worse than Erstad offensively. but shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit DeJesus is actually good, sry, Sox are #29 best
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) I always thought that being a "Grinder" involved being a guy who doesn't have the greatest natural talent. Otherwise, why isn't Thome a grinder? How many guys are there in baseball who run as hard to first as him? He just also hits the ball really really hard. maybe my formula sucks and Thome would be a grinder if he werent so damn good. or maybe he is a grinder and that's why KW brought him in here, and instead of being a non-grinder, he's just a grinder who is actually good at baseball? i am putting way too much thought into this
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 19, 2007 -> 08:34 PM) Is Ichiro a grinder? Because IIRC he often destroys that category. of course he is. So is Luis Castillo
