  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) I don't have the time to look it up, but how did Jones do against LHP last year? QUOTE (qwerty @ Nov 25, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) .218/.367/.395 in 150 plate appearances. He hit .210/.287/.506 against righties in 181 plate appearances. Career Stats are pretty even RH vs LH but slighty better vs LH. If the Sox resign Thome, I could see Jones DH'ing against lefties. vs RHP: .256 .331 .485 .815 vs LHP: .261 .361 .499 .859
  2. QUOTE (wallyburger @ Nov 23, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) Jenks is a fat man in denial. Dear Bob; You are fat. You have a chance to make millions or lose millions. No excuses. You are fat. I love that this "you are fat" letter came from a poster named "wallyburger." I don't mean this an offense to wallyburger, I just found it very amusing.
  3. Tillman has missed some tackles this year doing that, but he's been a one man fumble wrecking crew tonight!
  4. There you go! Nice passes to Davis and Forte! Bears up by 3!
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) How many freaking passes can he overthrow tonight? He has a bet with the O-line on holding penalties vs overthrown passes.
  6. I'm trying so hard to be positive (my posts probably don't indicate it), but can the Bears just start out at 1st and 15 just to save time from all the offensive holding penalties?
  7. Bell looks pretty good....why can't Forte do this?
  8. Plus the Sox aren't in a position where they HAVE to overpay for someone. They need help at a few positions, and maybe you overpay for a proven talent like Adrian Gonzalez. I agree with Caulfield, I don't see KW overpaying for a prospect like Jennings or even a guy like Upton (again, unless it's a deal based on Upton's current MLB value).
  9. Overthrown WR (offensive holding anyway), run up the middle, pass to the RB for short gain, pass short of 1st down that is overthrown / off the hands of the WR.... just in case anyone not watching wants to punch something.
  10. Bears defense can't finish it... you can't let the Eagles convert these third downs...especially 3rd and long... EDIT: As I type this, Bowman picks it. NICE!
  11. I'm one of those Cutler apologists, but even I can't defend his horrid decision making and throws so far tonight.
  12. I can't imagine why the Sox would be "set" at 3B with Teahen if they could upgrade at 3B (or some other position that would require Teahen to move). I mean, it's not like he's an elite defender at 3B. I think Teahen will be solidly average at 3B given a full year there, but there it would be stupid NOT to look around and see what you can get in the FA market and/or trades.
  13. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Nov 22, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Steelers season officially over. This is the most talented Steelers team since the 70's versions, but the coaching staff is one of the worst in the league. If Tomlin has enough brains to fire the OC and special teams coordinator after today, there might still be a chance. But I'm not holding my breath. They just couldn't handle Studebaker (#96)....
  14. Using Teahen's flexibility during the offseason is really the smartest course of action anyway. I think most of us expect a similar FA market to last year when there were some great bargains at the end of the winter as teams did not have much to spend. As Beck pointed out, there are legit options at 3B, 2B, DH, 1B, and OF on the FA market that can help the Sox. I'm glad the Sox have the flexibility to (hopefully) get a very good player at a discounted rate that could improve our offense, defense, or both.
  15. QUOTE (The Beast @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 03:00 PM) See, I find that fascinating. How could you have gotten through school and worked in a number related job? That's the other thing, I don't like the term "field" because to me, it's more of a "business." I think what kid gleason's post proves is that you don't necessarily find what you are going to do for a living in college. To be honest, I don't think I'm going to end up working in the sports industry, but I'd rather have practical knowledge that I can apply to a business setting rather than study a random liberal arts subject. I don't care about the humanities, but rather, I care about policy making and negotiation. Point being, I think a lot of what we do for a career has to come from discovery and that not everyone knows what they want to chase in life. In other words, just because I'm chasing the sports industry right now, doesn't mean I'm not going to work for a non-profit organization or a health care organization later on because I enjoy helping people. You can, however, find something that you are passionate about while in college. Our lives take us on unexpected paths. I never thought I'd be a college professor (wanted to be a CIA agent), but here I am, 6 months (hopefully) from being one. I "found" this profession after working a couple of jobs, but the passion I discovered for international studies / international business in college links to how I ended up where I am.
  16. SOA tonight...just wow! What an episode...so many things going on...so many questions going forward. That was seriously good television.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Nov 1, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Is he still working under the contract signed with the Sox? My comment also or question on why he can't stick is really in some amazement on my part on the fact the guy is a real decent hurler yet seems to get traded Yep, he's still under the contract he signed with the Sox. He does move around alot for two reasons: cost and his inability to pitch under pressure. Montreal moved him for cost reasons, he couldn't cut it in NY, he wanted out of Arizona, and he couldn't cut it in Chicago. He's actually a good fit with the Braves (they seem to like him), but he's the most moveable piece they have (since they won't move Jurrjens or Hanson and they probably can't move Lowe or Kawakami) given his excellent 2009.
  18. Great INT by Manning. Thankfully the D is playing since the offense is, well, offensive.
  19. If you look at the Braves rotation, it makes the most sense to trade Javy. They aren't unhappy with him at all. In fact, they'd prefer to trade Lowe, but nobody is going to take on that contract. Javy is coming off a good year and has a reasonable contract (length and dollars). The Braves have a glut of pitching (including two very good young starters) but still really need a bat, preferably in the OF.
  20. It's not really a horror flick, but I always watch The Lost Boys as a guilty pleasure this time of year.
  21. QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Oct 25, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) How was this team so unprepared to play today? I love the 3 yard dump off to Clark... great call down 31 It's not just this week - it was last week too. Actually, it's all year - the Bears have scored 7 pts in the first quarter all season so far.
  22. Wolfe up the middle - great playcalling. See that rollout Palmer is using successfully to avoid the rush? Why wouldn't that work with Cutler?

    Baltimore

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Oct 21, 2009 -> 04:58 PM) I lived right outside of Baltimore in Glen Burnie for about 2 years. I wish I could have been there longer. Baltimore is a great city with plenty to do. With a short stay with not much time to look around, I would check out the Inner Harbor and Fells Point. The Inner Harbor may be touristy, but I frequented it when I lived there because it's very easy to get in and out of downtown. Fells Point is close to the harbor and has tons of restaurants and bars. Also, there's the old police station where Homicide was filmed. Thanks! Any thoughts on the neighborhoods around that area? Safe? Fun? I think the university is around the Mt. Vernon area, and the Aquarium is obviously Inner Harbor. I'm used to cities having lived in Chicago and Atlanta.
