  1. When any pitcher has to face this lineup, he will make a mistake to someone ....the good thing most of these guys can mash that mistake now

Frank, Maggs, Lee will see much better pitches to hit thanks to Alomar and Everett being in the line up instead of Jimenez and Harris

  2. Should/do we re-sign Colon? (IMHO yes, we re-sign him....he is a stud)

Should/do we re-sign Robbie Alomar? (Not sure, but if Jimenez gets released, do we go with Miles next year at 2nd?)

Should/do we re-sign Daubach? (I believe he only got a one year deal this year) (IMHO, we let him go....Paulie has to get better there next year)

Should/do we re-sign Rick White? (IMHO let him go.....he is a piece to the puzzle. Not a big cog)

Should/do we re-sign Gordon? (IMHO let him go.....getting old)

Should/do we re-sign Sandy Alomar? (IMHO let him go ..... way to old and Olivo will be ready to be full time catcher by next year)

Should/do we exercise the option on Frank (pay him $8mill I believe to keep him with us until the year after option decision)? Should/does Frank exercise his option to become a FA which he can if he wants?

(IMHO we keep Frank a Sox until he retires.....he is going to hit for the next 5 years at least. He better get his 500th HR as a Sox)

Should/do we finally give Buerhle a long term deal? (IMHO, no. Just give him a one year extension based on arbitration #s)

Should/do we extend Maggs? (IMHO yes, Maggs this year is an exception, not a rule)

Should/do we re-sign Valentin? (IMHO let him go.....get a FA at SS)

Should/do we re-sign Everett? (IMHO.....let him go.....get some speed at CF)

We will have questions at 2B, SS, CF and pitching (at least one starter and few relievers) after next year based on the roster as of today.

If we get into the playoffs and go deep, the decision will be easier to make with the extra dough. if this team chokes down the stretch with this roster, we will soon be rebuilding like the Injuns and Tigers.

  3. KW wants to win.....and he does it for the Sox fans. I swear I better see >30K every game going forward now for the stretch run when we take over the division.

Looks like you'll be going to at least 38 more home games then huh :o ?

If I was living in Chicago, I would be there for at least 20 of the remaining home games. Unfortunately, I live far away on the "Wet" Coast. But I just told my spouse that we should think about going down in Oct to Chi town to watch the Sox in the playoffs

Unfortunately, for the vast majority of posters here, you don't have to post for us to go to the games. We already do. What the casual fans do is really of no concern to us although EVERYONE here would like to see a sell-out at The Cell at least 81 games a year. So when it comes to attending games, you're preaching to the choir here.

I know almost everyone here is die hard....and when I post about the crowd, it is not meant to take a jab at anyone here. It is simply a way for me to vent my frustrations regarding it. I strongly believe we Sox fans are very loyal.....I would like to see us prove that by supporting our team when they have shown before (Colon, Gordon) and during (Everett, Alomar) the season that they reallly really want to win

If we show up, it will help KW re-sign Colon and extend Maggs and Buerhle after this year

  5. David Wells was NOT KW's fault. In fact, we should have kept Wells for the next year.....see what he did last year and this year.

He had injury issues here, but his talent was not in doubt.

Again, in a town where the Tribune and Bill Wirtz do NOTHING to improve their teams and try to win the big prize, Jerry has constantly supported it (Bulls and Sox)

We needed potency at every position to be a force when we play Seattle, Yanks or Bo Sox pitching in the playoffs. KW just gave us that.

  6. You have to play Everett in CF.....this way, you let Paulie or Daubach DH depending on whether the pitcher is lefty or righty and depending on who is hot when

I think Paulie will still get hot at some point in the season soon......this lineup will be exploding then

Also, we can start Everett at CF and then if we go up more than 6 runs by the 7th inning, we can rest him for Harris or Rowand later in the game.....Manuel will have options then

I am so freaking excited at our hitting now

  7. Mets start makeover, send Alomar to White Sox

    By Kevin Goldstein

    July 1, 2003

The housecleaning officially has begun for the Mets as interim general manager Jim Duquette completed his first trade on Tuesday. New York sent disappointing Roberto Alomar to the White Sox for a trio of minor leaguers: lefthander Royce Ring, righty Edwin Almonte and infielder Andrew Salvo. As part of the deal, the Mets agreed to pay the remaining $3.9 million on Alomar's contract. Considering New York dealt a player of Alomar's quality and ate 100 percent of his remaining contract, it should have gotten more in return.

Acquired from Cleveland in December 2001 in a nine-player deal that sent Matt Lawton, Alex Escobar and Billy Traber to the Indians, Alomar hit .266-11-53 in 149 games in his first season with the Mets, a 70-point drop in batting average from 2001. A 12-time all-star who has won 10 Gold Gloves at second base, he was expected to rebound in 2003 but was hitting just .262-2-22 in 79 games this year. One key to his downfall has been his inability to solve lefties, against whom he hit just .193 while with the Mets. The 35-year-old will be a free agent once his five-year, $38 million contract expires at the end of the season. He's a career .302-203-1,093 hitter with 2,615 hits in 2,216 major league games.

Alomar is expected to replace D'Angelo Jimenez as the everyday second baseman for the White Sox. Jimenez got off to a tremendous start for Chicago, assuming the leadoff role and posting a .396 on-base percentage in April. He since has fallen out of favor with manager Jerry Manuel, thanks to his lackadaisical play and .187 batting average since June 1.

    Royce Ring

The best prospect acquired by the Mets in the deal is Royce Ring, who entered the season rated as the White Sox' No. 10 prospect. The 16th overall pick in last year's draft, Ring is a stocky lefthander who set single-season and career saves records while at San Diego State. He has excellent velocity for a southpaw with natural lefty movement, along with a good curve and usable changeup. Starting the season at Double-A Birmingham, Ring had an early-season streak of 20 consecutive appearances without allowing a run and went 1-4, 2.52 with 19 saves and a 44-14 strikeout-walk ratio in 36 innings. Considered one of the more advanced prospects in the 2002 draft, he could be in the Mets bullpen as early as September. With Armando Benitez almost assured of being traded in the next four weeks, the 22-year-old Ring could emerge as the Mets' closer in the near future.

Almonte has caught the attention of prospect watchers by posting a total of 62 saves (tops in the minors) and a combined 1.85 ERA in 2001-02 at Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. A 26-year-old righty found in the 26th round of in the 1998 draft, the St. Francis (N.Y.) product depends on his excellent control and a plus-plus changeup as opposed to overpowering velocity, as he normally works in the high 80s. Hitters seemed to have caught up to him this year, because while he has 14 saves for Charlotte, he also has suffered six losses and has a miserable 6.88 ERA. Opponents have been teeing off on him at a .331 clip, and he has an uncharacteristically low 24-14 K-BB ratio in 34 innings. He most likely will be assigned to Triple-A Norfolk.

A 22nd-round pick out of the University of Delaware in 2001, Salvo is a second baseman/third baseman with little power or speed but solid on-base skills. Salvo, 23, started the season at high Class A Winston-Salem, but was demoted to low Class A Kannapolis after going 2-for-14 in five games. Used mostly as a reserve, he hit .235-1-6 in 37 games for the Intimidators, with 19 walks and a .359 on-base percentage.

  8. GET KENNY LOFTON NOW

He will cost us nothing and our center D will be 100% better.....we get one more LH bat ..... and we get some more speed

    Speed kills

    Our lineup would be

    Kenny L

    R Alomar

    Frank T

    Maggs

    Daubach (PK)

    Lee

    Valentine

    Crede

    Olivo

Willie Harris as utility O/F and Graffanino as utility I/F

  9. If we trade for Alomar, the Mets will have to pick most of his huge salary

Which means we may have to part with someone decent....

No way the Sox pick up even half of Alomar's salary.....would not make sense if they were not willing to pay for Ray

  10. Relax fellas

    It was half price Monday

I have always maintained that this team or any of the last two year teams would have done better if only the fans would turn out and support them for one full freaking year

But Sox fans are notorious for not attending

I can bet anything if we had even the MLB average attendance until now we would be in first place.....all those close games we have lost this year would not be losses......see the Cubs games over the weekend or at Wrigley.....the Sox (or any team for that matter) would come back more if someone was freaking watching

And we complain how dead this team was at the first 1/3 of the season

I hope the fans finally give up the strike and white flag whining and come out in droves for the remainder of the season

Don't they get it? The more folks attend, the more Jerry will spend.....Jerry will never spend more pre-emptively

  11. Does Robby Alomar have any no-trade clause in his contract? If he does, he would choose the Sox over the Royals given his bro is here.

Or then again, maybe he might not after hearing stories about our players this year
