I left the stupid block Cincy C there (like the scarlet letter) because signing Abreu, Corey Dickerson and Tanner Roark makes us next year’s version of the Reds. That’s what we really should be conditioned to expect, right? Heck, might as well make it Puig, Roark and Alex Wood while we’re at it. Taking Cincy castoffs is about what we deserve...we already tried Frazier, so why the hell not? Reading lists like this just get more upsetting when Manny Freaking Machado was served up on a silver platter of perfect/pristine market conditions for even a mid-market mentality club.

By the way, Jose Abreu is 24th on the free agency list. I have a sneaking feeling we get someone like Puig, Hicks, Ozuna or Josh Donaldson to be our Samardzija or Frazier...just a little hope, but not too much for the long-suffering fanbase. That was based on just four plays he didn’t make (not errors, anything could have happened...lost in the lights, etc.) during the course of the entire season that were judged by a computer to be 50/50 attempts. Four!!! Palka made that many bad plays on a weekly basis.

All posturing by Boras to get more money from the Phillies...and the Padres are prepared to offer another $330 million, in addition to Machado’s $300, Hosmer’s $140 and at least $72.5 million for Wil Myers. Thats more than the entire franchise is worth, even if you add in Tatis’ trade value.

Harper’s only possible destination in CA is LA or SF...the end. They have a bunch of fringy guys like Franmil Reyes, Jankowski, Renfroe and Cordero. Harper would pair with Myers and Margot, but not happening. Not in a million years.

What can they do in 2020 with just Nola and Hoskins to pair with Trout...seems like a recipe for disappointment.

The Padres don’t have the money...they’re already overextended with Machado, their Lat Am spending spree in 2016, $24.5 million in bad contracts going back to 2014-15, Hosmer, Wil Myers, debt payments from the franchise purchase from Moore’s and stadium renovations (5% of budget, roughly.)

Their window can’t hold waiting two more years on Realmuto, Arrieta, Robertson, Segura and McCutcheon. It has to be now. Trout really feels like Arenado’s situation, 50/50 he stays put.

Madrigal at the moment...Burdi...their next two first rounders, etc. I’ll be shocked if Robert isn’t pushed fast as well, if he can stay healthy.

Not so sure about Abreu and Rodon...but you can add Leury Garcia there, too.
