Which stage of grief is denial again...?

BWAHHAHAHA. -
If you look an Eaton's injury history, and the fact that his sky-high fWAR was boosted just as much by defense as offense (the shift from CF to RF, and all the assists he piled up that year)...it's hard to say he wasn't fairly valued, because he wasn't close to a 5.6 fWAR player over the rest of his career seasons. If he'd had at least TWO years like that, well, you have a better argument. He looks a lot like Pollock...to the point where you're expecting the lower range of outcomes (1.5-2.5 fWAR due to missed playing time) than the absolute ceiling in the 5-7 range.
-
Ozuna's been far too inconsistent to include on that list right now...but you could have said 2-3 years ago he might be better than Yelich and had a legitimate argument about it. With the rule of White Sox FA acquisitions, he'd undoubtedly play more like Ozuna did in 2018 with the Cardinals than his 2017 season.
-
Even then Adolfo's value goes way down if he can't continue to showcase that shotgun of an arm...but all indications are that 90% of players come back, and many are even better than before. It's just a matter of his offense at Birmingham, as he's seemingly been in the low minors forever. He probably has the most natural talent of any player in the system after Robert.
-
If you had to choose between Bryce Harper at $325 million and Corbin at his price point...and couldn't have both, which would you select? It's really that simple....the same reason they weren't offering enough for Machado, because there's no way their payroll could sustain both with everyone they've brought on board this off-season already.
-
I was referring to the previous post about "trades being Hahn's specialty." Trying to think of any...obviously, a LOT of posters felt Giolito/Lopez/Dunning was a win, but the bloom has come off that rose with Giolito putting up the worst statistical season of any qualified starter in MLB last year.
-
Other than Cease/Jimenez...what specialty are you talking about, exactly? Adam Eaton?
-
SS2k5 had said it from the beginning...but even he couldn't have assume that things would go so poorly. We all got spoiled by how seemingly easy it was for the Cubs and Astros. In reality, I have a sneaking suspicion we're going to pull off a string of Hail Mary, desperation moves like the Cincinnati Reds heading into next year in order to at least create the illusion of competitiveness, but none of the fans will buy it anymore after watching this tired dog & pony show for the past decade plus. The front office and marketing department will be completely befuddled by the tepid response. Then we'll get a recycling of the KW quotes about not spending $1 if you only have 50 cents and the cycle will repeat itself until someone smacks Kenny across the face and tells him to wake up to reality. WE'RE NOT DOING YOU A FAVOR TO SHOW UP UNTIL YOU SHOW UP FOR US.
-
And will anyone actually in believe them until it happens...?
-
Making die-hard fans not care or apathetic is quite the feat for this front office to pull off. I wish there was a way to track all of those fans from 2006 and see how many of them still follow the White Sox on at least a weekly basis.
-
Just because we survived Dunn and LaRoche and Cabrera doesn't mean the fans won't have a red line at some point. In this case, they simply have to have a playoff-caliber team in 2021/2022. Zero excuses, and a lot of fans will be voting no with their wallets until that happens...

A nice dream... -
Maybe we need to saturate the Philadelphia media with stories about the sad saga of JD Drew, Scott Boras and the Phillies...
-
Shields was the main one for KC, but he was acquired by trade. It was mostly the secondary bullpen pieces with that particular team. Infante, Morales, Chris Young, Madson, Medlen, Vargas, Blanton were all complimentary pieces...Kendrys Morales was probably the key addition offensively. Gurriel, Aoki, Reddick and Beltran for the Astros...traded for Verlander to push them over the top. Morton, Gregerson and McHugh came from outside the organization.
-
Too bad draft picks weren’t tradable, or we’d have certainly have put together the MLB version of the Herschel Walker trade.
-
If we’re going to blame Daniels and Fielder there, then the Rangers’ track record (minus the last two years, obviously) over the last decade plus runs rings around the White Sox...two World Series appearances weren’t by accident.
-
And starting the year with Latos and Rollins and arguing you were legitimately attempting to compete...then not realizing that 23-10 start was just a false positive, that it wasn’t going to turn out like 2000 and 2005 and 2008 but was headed for more of a 2010/12 type of ending, at best. Someone was arguing Preller wasn’t that good. Well, he was certainly good enough to remember the original scouting report on Tatis, even though they hadn’t signed him for a very affordable price in the first place.
-
Hampton and Zito were two of the worst really immense (at the time) deals for starting pitchers. Of course, Jaime Navarro, on a much smaller scale, or Danks. https://www.thesportster.com/baseball/top-20-worst-contracts-in-mlb-history/ This article has another 20.
-
Is that also adjusting for Safeco offensively?
-
And yet some teams somehow manage to get Nolas, Buehlers, Trouts, Benintendis, Tucker’s and Kinslers....and the White Sox get loyalty rewards from management. Players from the Midwest and Northeast just don’t get scouted as well and certainly not as frequently.
-
Yes, therein lies the point. Sox scouted them together and picked the athlete and ignored the real baseball player...
-
Once again, the horror of misremembering them as high school vs. university teammates!! I’m 100% sure YOU knew that too, right? I mean none of our broadcasters like Hawk and Melton and DJ and Farmer and Benetti have ever made a single mistake...and they actually get paid for their memories.
-
I should have been more specific...fWAR with the White Sox after the trade, versus fWAR for Fogg, Wells and Lowe with the Pirates. Which of course led to not having a 5th starter in 2003 because we were too cheap to pay Kenny Rogers, who was of course integral in the Twins winning yet another division title. 8.5 for Wells, 6.1 for Fogg and 1.0 for Ritchie from 2012-14.
-
You’re really something, you know that... I probably have 500 posts the last three days, and make a couple of mistakes at 5 am. in the morning. Oh my god, I had Kinsler and Brian Anderson as teammates in university instead of high school. The horror of it all!!! Well, KW once traded the wrong Barry/Berry from his system because there was a miscommunication about the spelling of the name. He didn’t even know who Nestor Molina was, either, but that’s an embarrassment now for Marco Paddy to live with.
