Have we hit bottom?
Madrigal, Cease and Robert...along with that #3 pick, and another #3-7 in 2020, that’s a big risk to wager the rebuild on without at least two 3-5 fWAR players (one pitcher, one hitter) from outside the organization. Catcher has to be the most concerning, along with that Lester/Shields/Verlander “over the top” veteran pitching acquisition. They simply can’t blow that like they have over and over again since Dunn. There’s no easy replacement for Yasmani Grandal if we can’t sign him...maybe trading for Austin Hedges with Mejia supplanting him. Gary Sanchez is another bad season away from being pushed out of N.Y., but is not good enough defensively (sound familiar?)

Jay, Guyer and McCann seem closer to Third Tier if there was such a category...

Sox Claim Josh Osich
Interestingly, one of the projection systems only had the Padres winning two more games with Machado as compared to someone like W. Myers or France or Greg Garcia trying to play there.

3/11 @ Brewers?
It’s just the fact that we seemingly never end up with local players like Cliff Floyd, Granderson, Kipnis, Zobrist, etc.

Sox Claim Josh Osich
This dude better throw hard as fuck or I’m confused as fuck to why we’re adding him. Is he perhaps related to Jon Adkins?

That element definitely exists in American society, though, whether we want to admit it or not (look no further than the "gay pride" discussion, and the fact that "four-in-ten Americans (42%) said that being gay or lesbian is “just the way some choose to live,” while a similar share (41%) said that “people are born gay or lesbian,” according to the most recent Pew Research Center poll on the issue, conducted in 2013. http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2015/03/06/americans-are-still-divided-on-why-people-are-gay/ As far as anti-Semitism, look no further than the ongoing campaign/character assassination against George Soros, for one. Go back to Charlottesville and the chants. Heck, even Sheryl Sandberg of Facebook actively participated in it by attempting to frame his as the villain leading a global cabal to take over the world. Of course, sophisticated posters (and most Sox fans, for that matter) can make a distinction between a "cheap front office" and someone's ethnicity, but the lines have definitely blurred in recent years. It's the reason we don't have Filibuster anymore at SoxTalk, because everything is about "sides/partisanship," the other side is evil incarnate/the enemy/racists/intolerant or "doesn't love their country/isn't patriotic/socialist/anti-American" or whatever particular label fits that day. If we go through another tease of an off-season in 2019-20 after finishing with a win column number below 60 this year, it's going to get REALLY ugly. Unfortunately, it feels like the worst MAY yet still be to come.

Have we hit bottom?
Worse would be a Jimenez OPS under 800 (considering he's pretty one-dimensional) and any type of major injury to Moncada, Luis Robert, Dylan Cease, Madrigal, or setback to Kopech in his rehab. So no, we haven't reached the bottom, yet. Or the Cubs going on another tear in the NL Central over the next 2-3 years while our rebuild fails to take off. Getting trolled by Padres' owner/fans and the Phillies doesn't make things any easier, though. It's kind of embarrassing for a major market like Chicago to be blown out of the water by SD, of all places. It's a really cool city, but c'mon. It's not SF, NY, Chicago, LA, etc.

Jerry, KW, & Hahn Kill SouthSideSox (sorta)
WSI has some of their front page stories and links back to the 2012/13 season. I went there just to see if my lifetime ban was still in effect. The funny thing is that you can't even currently register as a new user, because the CAPTCHA/image verification they have is no longer up to date, so there's no way to bypass that. Lip still posts there, I noticed...the White Sox history ones, mostly.

2019 MLB draft thread
How close is Lodolo (TCU LHP) to being in consideration for a Top 3-5 pick? Another month of dominant starts and high/er velocity? LHP to replace Rodon?

What Kind of Rebuild is This?
Pretty sure Eaton and Q aren't Cooperstown bound, but the point still stands...not to mention Frazier/Robertson/Kahnle.
-
What Kind of Rebuild is This?
It’s only because Hahn was such an expert contract negotiator that we were in a position to rebuild in the first place, lol...

I keep scratching my head over the Kevan Smith DFA
Maybe you should go back to LA LA LAND where we own the AL Central for 5-7 years...it’s like we are being forced to join up with Jim Jones in Guyana despite all evidence to the contrary, Jim Jones Has No Clothes. I get that it’s a lot more fun to be optimistic...and this might be the only time left before the games really count, but if they really cared about the fans more than the bottom line and “risk mitigation,” they could have solved this problem by signing Machado or Harper.

3/11 @ Brewers?
Jimenez with a gift double...Eucker arguing that Stokes should have caught it. Adolfo in as PR for Jimenez. 6-2. Mendick up. Nelson k’s the side with 91-92 and his curve...huge step in his comeback, apparently.

3/11 @ Brewers?
Many argued that Giolito was all set to dominate based on how well he looked at the end of 2017 and with increased velocity in ST 2018.
-
3/11 @ Brewers?
So you’re saying terrible results should have the opposite effect in the regular season this time? Don't forget Engel and Tyler Flowers in AFL.

Giolito last spring...

3/11 @ Brewers?
Thanks KW/Hahn, some truly uplifting stuff to hang our hats on. As to your point, sure, just like Chacin pitching just like he did last year on a playoff team is completely coincidental. Believe as you wish. This game (so far) isn’t causing anyone to look forward optimistically to the season in any facet, or line up at the ticket office. Period. Spring is supposed to be the season of hope, not despair. listening to Eucker retell the Covey (original Brewers’ pick before the diabetes diagnosis sabotaged him) story...that’s entertaining/uplifting, at least.
-
3/11 @ Brewers?
For sure, this bodes well for a write-in All Star candidate. Mendick walks, second baserunner of the game. Robert up. Luis flies out to LCF, 3/10 now. Chacin out of the game, thank god.
-
3/11 @ Brewers?
Assuming that happens (Santana getting his velocity back)...if the Twins were 100% confident in that happening, they would have made more of an effort to retain him for the 2019/20 seasons, when they’re at least TRYING to compete. We’ll find out beginning Friday. Rooting for a rainout, haha. Jimenez up again, pop up that barely went out of play. Behind 1-2, in the count. Comebacker to Chacin, 3/25.

3/11 @ Brewers?
Great, another $9+ million wasted. Not exactly cheap, just dumb. I guess that’s somehow or relatively better.
