QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Its 88 with the Sox in 2010 82, 85 and 79 with Toronto. Pretty consistent, up until the 2009 season, and even then, he had 71. But only 9 with the Sox. 24 career high in homers.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:23 PM) Excellent! Sox were just crushing Waldrop tonight. Konerko was just a little bit defensive with 2 strikes and didn't really get his whole body into that one, but it looked better than most of his recent swings.
-
Rios very close to his career high in RBI's. I'm pretty sure it's either 86 or 88 with Toronto.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:18 PM) Can we avoid using Meyers for another day or two? Can we avoid spelling his name incorrectly, lol? Myers. Just joking, Balta. Maybe he would pitch better if we changed his name to Russ Meyers. 5-0. White Sox and Tigers playing similar games behind their aces tonight.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:15 PM) I would rather have Ron LeFlore or LeVar Burton hit 3rd, if it's like the movie.
-
Top of the order 0/9 with a HBP. Make that 1/10. LOL. Youkilis with the "lag" golf shot into LF, chopping the short axe down on the fastball in. One homer away from 6 guys with 20+ homers.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:12 PM) I've never seen a guy who can change speeds so much like Sale. Tom Glavine. Maddux, too.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 09:10 PM) I can't believe you seriously think Johnson hitting 3rd is a good idea. It's a better idea than Olmedo hitting 3rd. Heck, I'd rather have Conor Jackson hitting in that spot.

Great pitch by Sale there. So far, Chris has done an admirable job with RISP. Morneau has been their hottest hitter the last 2 months...needs to get the lefty out and turn it over to the pen. 99 pitches on the game. Which means Ventura will send him out to start the 7th, because, well, RV just seems to be doing the opposite of what works the last 3 weeks with our bullpen.
-
DeAza with a REALLY REALLY lackadaisical play there in LF.... Maybe he was worried about not catching the ball, but he just wasn't setting up well at all to make the throw to 2nd. 90 pitches with 1 out in the 6th.
-
Sox killer Carroll on a 10 game hitting streak. This would seem to be a dangerous inning for Chris.
-
2 walks from Dayan? Not exactly a tension-filled game yet. Need to wait for the Sox bullpen to add some excitement Tigers already won. TB over NYY 5-4 in Gotham in the bottom of the 8th, Balt and Oak start a huge West Coast series tonight. What is "Bubba Burger"? Anyone tried it? There's a new White Sox advertiser on the radio.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:28 PM) Wow that may be the hardest hit single ever There have been so many absolute rockets hit at Fenway off that wall where the batter ended up stuck at first, especially with Manny and Ortiz. TB winning the battle of aces, Price over Sabathia. CC has battled injuries and diminished stuff all season long, hasn't gotten on a big run of good starts or found a rhythm this season. Price, probably going back into a slight lead for the AL Cy Young. Sale could have jumped to the top had he outdueled Verlander, arguably.

QUOTE (rafacosta @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) After DJ 2/3 day he is not playing. And our bottom 3 hitters can't hit right handed pitchers. Viciedo 2 RBIs were lucky at bats. Lucky is MUCH better than what we've seen from other Sox hitters tonight with RISP.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Good thing he sat on Wednesday Not quite as dubious as choosing Dunn over Lillibridge last year, but close. Surely, Ventura was thinking that both Gordon and Dayan would struggle with Scherzer and Verlander... Two hard hit balls here speared by YOUK at third. Sometimes better to be lucky than good. And well-positioned defensively.

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Question: Why can't Beckham get around on an 89 mph fastball when he's looking for it? Because the "spin" from everyone around the Sox is that he didn't have enough time to develop in the minors. That it has basically been "on the job training" for 3+ years for Gordon, lol. And that Dayan Viciedo has had a lot more time in the minors to hone his game, for example. And that Dayan's numbers are very good because he's only 23.
-
DAMMIT...went away from the fastball, Alexei would have had a 3-0 count if had any patience and plate discipline. Maybe it's better if we never load the bases with 2 outs or less. Jesus...we suck in clutch situations. And Chris Sale finds himself in a similar situation as Jake Peavy on Tuesday. 2-0 lead, not comfortable, but great pitchers hold the lead and turn it over to the bullpen for the win.
-
Mr. Patience, lol. Viciedo with both RBI's so far. Alexei, no DOUBLE PLAY, NO DOUBLE PLAY. Still, he's been our best clutch hitter in the 2nd half, all things considered.
-
Viciedo needs a double or homer here in the worst way to get some confidence back.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 08:02 PM) That Indians lineup is pure garbage. Maybe 4 Major Leaguers throughout the entire lineup. Choo, Santana for the last two months, Kipnis and Cabrera
-
Indians fail to score with 2nd/3rd, 1 out. At least we managed that tonight. 4-0 into the 7th now. Fathom, do you think we'll still see an increase in season ticket sales for 2013 if we don't make the playoffs and also didn't keep Peavy, AJ or YOUK around?
-
Looks like Verlander has his mojo back again. Sale getting squeezed by the ump, what new? At least he can usually pitch over it and not lose his composure.
-
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 07:16 PM) They should have been teachers. Very funny. Sale, key indicator. 3 walks or more, he has been losing. 2 or less walks=victory. 93 with the fastball in the first. Great play by Alexei Ramirez. Let's appreciate him before he's traded by Marty.
-
Vasquez entered the game with a .444 BAA lefties. Strikes out the side. Not exactly an auspicious start, so far. It would also seemingly be a miracle for a team with D-Wise hitting third and a reeling Konerko 4th to beat a team with Cabrera and Fielder in those same spots. Lucky baseball isn't the NBA or we'd be toast with a couple of superstars capable of carrying a team.
-
Verlander AVERAGING 114.1 pitches per game. 8 starts of 120+ pitches. Gotta be happy anytime you see a Twins' line-up without Mauer in it. Of course, he's not really a big fan of facing Chris Sale. Kind of the ultimate compliment, there.
