The Official Thread for Joe Cowley and his Agenda.
caulfield12 replied to Jack Parkman's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Here's the response I received...a little bit of a surprise, but maybe not as much vitriol for Cowley in the newsroom as there was for Mariotti. Joe is a good guy who made a mistake--and I think that's how most people see it. He felt that others were in on the joking and smack talk (pro wrestling kind of blabber) with him--a kind of club on the Internet, if you will. Now he knows. Now he will be who he is. I appreciate your concern, and I'm glad you care enough to write to the S-T about it. We're all going to try harder to be better here. All of us. Thanks much--Rick Telander -
Dunn really not looking good at 1B. Almost wish we'd put Lillibridge in there for defensive purposes. Guess Kipnis was going to beat it out anyway. Two hits for the Northbrook kid against LHP, impressive, hanging in there against offspeed stuff from Sale and Santiago.

LOL. That's what happens to 86 mph four-seam fastballs. How could this guy have been a reliever in the Reds' system, or a "top prospect"? Get a hearse, because those baseballs in that inning just got killed.

Greg, that's ridiculous. ANYONE could just say AFTER that they were "pretending" or doing satire/parody or whatever. Greg walks into the office: "Well, you gotta love that Nathan Bedford Forrest guy. The KuKluxKlan has done a lot of good things in the South to protect our rights and prevent improprieties from being committed against our women." OH, that's just you pretending to be racist/misogynist/bigoted. Then I guess we'll have to let it go, you can keep your job because you didn't really mean it. If he walks into the Sun Times offices (which he seldom does) in painted black face and says he's just joking after pretending to talk in an exaggerated jive/slang, by your logic, nothing would or should happen to him because it's just a performance. But golly, why didn't Ozzie using the same excuse work for him with MLB? Ozzie was just JOKING too, right? He really didn't believe what he was saying about Castro, he just wanted attention... There's a bomb on the plane!!! Oh, just kidding. (Does Ben Stiller impression from MEET THE FOECKERS) -
With one hit in his next 3 AB's, Beckham will at least be back to the .200 mark. In news almost as important, Jared Mitchell now has 20 walks and 21 K's. Josh Phegley finally ended his hitting streak and Dan Johnson has 5 homers and 20 RBI's, bidding to get back to the majors. Think the Indians just might want to rescind that Jimenez trade about right now?

White Sox record when: Scoring 0-3 runs 0-9 Scoring 4 runs=5-2 (losses on the blown Santiago saves against BALT & OAK) Scoring 5+ runs=6-0 Alex Rios has an OPS of nearly 200 points higher (947) versus fastballs, 757 against everything else.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2012 -> 09:25 PM) The Central has no teams playing well right now...I'd probably look at it that way more than anything... And again, it's simply a matter of scoring runs...I'm curious to know what our record is when scoring 3 or more runs... Edit: We're 10-6 if when we just score three or more runs...that is pretty impressive. Are you sure, I just checked and it looked like 11-4 (losses to Balt by Santiago, OAK extras, twice against BOSTON)?

Hard to say it's coincidence when the two best teams other than the Sox are Tiggers and Indians. CLE has been putting up some pretty incredible offensive numbers, although most of them were recorded against the dreadful Royals' pitching staff (outside of Chen-meister).
-
I will admit Greg still has many opportunities to clown if the Royals go 9-9 against us this season. But gosh, they look really awful right now, as do the Twins. Jimenez already in the mid 80's for pitch count and losing velocity from his FB.
-
May 2009=May 2012? Once can only hope. But we've been HERE before with Beckham in 2010 and 2011. GoGo Sox. Maybe this is the year we play well above .500 against the Central again. Looking to be 5-1 after tonight. Take that Greg, Haiku, with thee I smite.
-
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON? Beckham with 2 hits in a single game? Has that happened all season? Just once, maybe? Up to .180 and Ventura's resting a little easier about Gordon and Viciedo. Now, if only Morel.... Gordon 532, Morel 415 in the OPS Chase.
-
Don't think you'll see a 60% scoring rate against Sale in the innings after the Sox score, lol. He (Danks) would be the 7th starter in Texas these days.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Jesus, wtf happened to the Bulls in the second half? And the Hawks, playing at home...?
-
Dammit, 2/17 with bases loaded this year now. Have to get at least ONE more run here. At least Rios didn't hit into a DP, there's THAT. YAY, those hits look like line drive smashes in the box score. And Brent Morel manages to kill all the buzz. 2/18 (.111) now with bases loaded, Rios 0/3.
-
Can't remember the last time Konerko was swinging 3-0. Pitcher's blowing up. That might have been the best move there for Jimenez, if he can pick up a DP here.
-
C'mon, bust this game wide open here PLEASE! Jimenez already at 50 pitches with only 6 outs recorded.
-
Xbaza rocks!!! It's a veritable blitzkrieg attack now with the fireworks.
-
Gordo skyrockets up to a 509 OPS and 167 average. Just call him Alejandro XBaza.
-
YAY, JINXED Beckham there, lol.
-
Sale through 45 pitches, opponents hitting .158 45 and up, .273 Sounds like Peavy last year. Definitely the concern about both stamina and being exposed too many times to the same hitters in a game. There are 180 qualified hitters in MLB for OPS right now. Ryan Roberts is 180th and last at 482. Alexei Ramirez is barely in front of him at 178. Beckham and Morel aren't even within hailing distance of Roberts unless they both hit for the cycle or something totally cataclysmic like that occurs.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 1, 2012 -> 08:38 PM) Watch an NL game, and his swing looks on par with most pitchers. Not Dontrelle Willis or Zambrano, lol. Can we sign Willis and convert him to a 3B?
-
I looked up Royce Clayton and Mark Johnson from 2001-2002. Royce had 708 and 661 OPS numbers and seemed like an automatic out. Mark Johnson 590 and 720. As bad as they were to watch, Beckham and Morel are in a whole new league of awfulness.
-
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ May 1, 2012 -> 07:34 PM) Who's 30th, Oakland? Indians, and not even close. They're around 15,000 per game.
-
Only 2nd walk of season for Dayan. Good plate discipline....Jimenez is bringig more heat this year than last, up in the 95-96 range instead of low 90's. And you've now reached the BLACK HOLE section of the Sox line-up. Where the OPS numbers are sucked closer and closer to the void that is a SUB .400 OPS number.
