What happened to yesterday's Nats game thread??
caulfield12 replied to vilehoopster's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Is there a fanbase in the bottom 5 besides the Rockies (sort of) that's not? At the very least be like the Marlins...lowest payroll in baseball hanging close to .500 into the final week with a very young team in one of the toughest divisions in the sport. -
But they have been that way for the last decade or so...regardless of veteran or rookie managers like Francona and Vogt.
-
Some players are simply much more adept at rotating positions seamlessly from a defensive standpoint. Others are better sticking to one position like Moncada or Vargas at third base.
-
It's going to take the Twins trading away Buxton, Lopez, Ryan, etc. Minnesota still has Lewis, Lee (hasn't lived up to prospect status yet), Keaschall, and an excellent farm system with Top 5 CFer. Woods-Richardson had a similar season to Shane Smith. I would pick them for 68-72 wins with where they currently stand. Also, calling out KW despite his team's record from 2000-2012 isn't going to get you anywhere in terms of making Getz look better. Getz might have brought the White Sox in line with the bottom 1/3rd of the major leagues in terms of organizational processes/systems. MIGHT have...

It all comes down to getting a star with that upcoming 1-1, 1-2, 1-3 draft pick. And/or Braden becoming a consistent 25-30 homer 100 rbi force in the middle of the order.
-
Tigers blow 3-0 lead…4-3 Boston clinches postseason.
-
Hill can run at least.
-
This is the year of 4 homer games...haha.
-
Crazy thing is Montgomery had three K's before that homer...
-
Wilson to close? Or Taylor?
-
Homer off a tough lefty...crazy.
-
Didn't stop the jinx lol. Rangers surging over the Guardians.
-
Being bad means blowing an 8-1 lead to the Nationals... Being equally bad means committing four errors and giving the game right back.

It's pretty preposterous to surrender the Chicago market without any viable alternatives. Plus Ishbia's pretty well ensconced on terclast of his mansion/career in Chicagoland as well. Baseball makes a lot more money off expanding to 32 teams The only one in?favor of Sox leaving is Ricketts and 95% of Cubs' fans.
-
But at least they were competitive...everyone knew the Tigers were better on paper, and that team was relying on way too many rookies. 2010 was a lot of fun in the middle of that summer... Same with 2003 and 1990. You remember the years and those teams decades later, like the SouthSide Hitmen or 1983's Jerry Dybzinski/Tito Landrum. 1959 GoGo Sox or 1983's Winnin' Ugly. Those teams had genuine/authentic identities and later specially reserved places in our memories...all set to a James Earl Jones monologue. We recenot fans only got Covid Year, TLR, 2021 and finally the Field of Dreams game after waiting patiently for half a decade.

The Twins were threatened with contraction in 2001 in order to get their new stadium. What they did this past trade deadline might be almost worse than anything Reinsdorf has done. The Pohlads lost Ishbia...couldn't find another buyer at $1.6 billion with $500 million of attached debt, and just deliberately blew their franchise up. Not sure there's any recovery from that. And that about the only real current hope for the Sox...for the time being the AL Central is their greatest strength but other teams like CLE DET and KC have simply been more efficient or "luckier" like KC with Witt, Jr. That and Braden Montgomery being a highly likeable All-Star (auto correct tried to change his name to "Broken" lol).
-
Have to add the Marlins and now the Rockies to that basket of teams...
-
Two solid and very young catchers...Teel could be the best player on the team. Colson Montgomery...maybe he's a 4 fWAR player and sticks at SS? Maybe a bust in his sophomore campaign. Walter McKinven Team seems to have much better chemistry and Venable is half tolerable Speaking of another bad team. The Nationals at least have Abrams, James Wood, Dylan Crews, M.Gore and Eli Willits...which is a much stronger young core than the White Sox currently possess.
-
They must have the worst statistical record for outfield play since the end of 2023...
-
Playing Fletcher Julks Hill over Baldwin is an interesting choice. Granted Rodon is a tough lefty. But none of those three are future Sox players, along with Robertson, this year's DeLoach.
-
WestEddy said the White Sox were better positioned entering this season than the Padres...I guess if the goal is saving money on payroll and avoiding the postseason, that's pretty accurate.
-
Yankees have to win with combo no hitter in Toronto vs. Boston. Mets all over Cubs again.
-
Bringing back memories of useless Keppinger.
-
C.Montgomery ending his season with a strong run...thankfully.
-
Dodgers' 6th lefties in pen far better than Sox first Scott Banda Vesia Dreyer Kershaw and Wrobleski...
