  1. "With Aroldis Chapman and Justin Wilson already added to the bullpen from the left side in Boston and Brennan Bernadino in the fold as a more established lefty option as well, Booser had become somewhat expendable for the Red Sox." He was expected to be cut coming into the season...not unlike how the Sox picked up Damaso Marte from the Pirates way back when.
  2. Skenes vs. Skubal a closer argument because of Skubal being a LHP and much more experienced...and Skenes really hasn't had to overcome major injury issues yet. Probably going to have to go to Vest or Finnegan at some point soon. Halpin can really scoot. Finishes with 14 k's. Can't imagine his FA contract if he can stay healthy...$425-450 million? $475? $500 million seems insane for a pitcher around 29-30.
  3. Have you been a Sox fan for over fifty years? This is most definitely a "prove it/show me" organization. If you told me the Sox were going to spend money in the off season like the Royals two years ago, the outlook would be decidedly more positive. It's not like wishing and hoping and praying and being optimistic will get all these players to make dramatic improvements. But sure, knock yourself out. And then you still have Benintendi around for two years, Luis Robert and God knows what in RF. At best, a 2/3 starter in Shane Smith and 3/4 in Martin. Us anyone really counting on Gomez or Burke as a #3 starter next year? Smith and Schultz are at a minumum 3-4 months into 2026 additions. And still massive holes in the bullpen... In the end, everyone will simply argue Getz didn't have all the financial resources he needed to supplement the "core" group of Colson Teel and Braden.
  4. Tigers turning the tables on CLE with some small ball. Skubal with 1-2 innings left with the extra rest/off time from last start. 10 k's through 6, including 7 in a row. Still at 100 near pitch 90.
  5. As always, the problem is expecting 3-4 players to improve by 1-2 war while not expecting anything but better numbers from Colson and Teel.
  6. Konnor Griffin in the Sox system and then a 1-1/2/3 draft pick in 2026 dramatically changes the narrative there. That said, Braden and Bonemer were the only position players that seemed to make big-time progress. And that's still only a #8-10 ranked system probably...just not enough high quality pitching depth to confidently fill 2-3 spots in the rotation if Taylor's permanently a reliever.
  7. Great base running by Angel. Detroit has a decent chance to break through here in the top of the 7th. Skubal back on cruise control.
  8. Skubal looks like a man on a mission after his last start against the Guards that self-destructed in the fifth inning.
  9. Probably why Teel won't be at a corner OF spot or 1B at least for another year.
  10. Well that article was in Korean won/KRW. A bit strange for a highly-hyped NPB player...to play the "insiders" role here early.
  11. That's a massive projected jump from low 1s to 3 for Vargas... Same with Quero Baldwin and Sosa. And for all the Meidroth hype and that relatively hot bat in September, he only finished at 1.3 fWAR. Mead is almost not worth mentioning.
  12. Gellinger has been around at least twenty years in a variety of White Sox roles. Seemingly, he would represent a sort of JR or front office spy to Venable, the new kid on the block. If not for major health problems that almost forced him out...he might have even more authority.
  13. This motto probably doesn't work very well for diehard Sox fans in the wake of another 100+ loss season IMO. Maybe more of Gen Z thing.
  14. Quero finished as a net negative in fWAR. Not very easy for a primary catcher to pull off. Maybe bWAR has a different reading.

  17. https://www.fangraphs.com/standings/playoff-odds Dodgers over Reds Padres over Cubs Yankees over Red Sox Most experts are picking CLE over Detroit...but odds here favor Tigers, maybe counting on CLE homefield advantage as well
  18. One thing's for sure. Katz will get another job in baseball. Unlike KW Hahn Haber Grifol Vizquel.
  19. Ptac was predictable...Eddy same. Was expecting Cali as well. 41/60 or almost 70% and a clear majority have given a C or D. One of the B votes is a Getz family member...j/k. Have never seen a "Constructive Summer" post b4.
  20. South Side Hit Men 1 hour ago "If Will has two more years, that should be the term of any new coaching hires, and that should be the case go forward, so the Sox can avoid the previous decades worth of hand-me-down coaches, clubhouse snitches, and other assorted cronies passed from fired managers to new managers. I'm not convinced Will / Getz is the answer, and hope they prove otherwise. The bar in many comments and articles seems to compare whether they are better than TLR/Grifol/Hahn, among the worst in the history of MLB during their tenures here. The expectation needs to be is the managerial and front office staff (be) better than the majority of the league. Will never happen on the business side with Brooks Boyer Jerry's permanent crony. Have reasonable expectations, especially with the miserly ownership. but demonstrable continued improvement needs to happen for them to even think about sniffing .500 even in the horseshit AL Central, where all payrolls go to die..." https://soxmachine.com/2025/09/ethan-katz-marcus-thames-among-coaches-let-go-as-white-sox-begin-staff-shakeup Let's hope they do a comprehensive/exhaustive search instead of just declaring Matt Wise the new pitching coach...
  21. 70-92 is the bar for next year...right? Is that genuine progress?
  22. Are you incapable of reading? C-/D+ was not an option. He's not a C but might be a bit higher than a full D. "C- feels about right. Biggest pluses were Colson, Teel and the Rule 5 guys. Quero, Baldwin, Vargas and Sosa had their moments…along with Meidroth, but none of those guys feel like the heart of a pennant contender at present time due to various flaws. Schultz, Hagen Smith and Braden the three obvious keys to the future, and the 2026 draft pick. Speed defense execution/fundamentals, the bullpen and rotation, all need dramatic improvements, especially with Robert (at some point, hopefully) and Taylor both gone."
  23. Not a bad way to earn $38.5 million over two years...another free agency with more elbow concerns approaching.
  24. But he has an Ivy League background...
  25. We're going to pay 10-25% premium over market rates for the best coaches to join the second worst organization in baseball? Will believe it when I see it.
