  1. I know that chisox fan. I was just stating that in the last 3 drafts the Sox have gotten some good CF prospects that include Anderson, Reed, Webster, Nanina(was the 14th rounder this year that I was thinking who is off to a great start), and you can even add Spidale to that list. My point is that CF has become a strength in the minors with the drafts the last 3 years and the lose of a career minor leaguer in the making like Fernandez is anything but heartbreaking. If I remember correctly the guy had something like 4 walks in over 200 AB's before getting traded. That is some of the worst plate disipline that I have ever seen and if you think he will ever make it to the majors like that then you are in for a rude awakening. Any time you get a solid major leaguer(which Jimenez has proven to be to some extent) for 2 career minor leaguers it is a good trade. For some reason that guy doesn't get the point. I guess when you don't like someone(like his dislike for KW) you tend to put a negative spin on everything no matter who good it is.
  2. I take each of your trades one at a time. 1) Did the Sox not need a defensive improvement at SS after 2000? Most Sox fans saw that as a weakness and rightfully so with Valentin making 30+ errors there. The Sox got lucky that most of those errors didn't cost them games, but that is a chance you don't take again. So what does KW do. He gets one of the top defensive SS in the game and gives up next to nothing to get him. I am sorry but that isn't a bad trade. Next. 2) I already mentioned that the strike that was looming probably played a HUGE role in the Durham trade. It was his best move, but he wanted to get something for a player that he know wasn't going to be on the team next year(its JR's fault for not resigning him). If there was a strike then the Sox would have been stuck with nothing to show for Durham. No compensaiton. Not a good trade, but not entirely KW's fault. Next. 3) The Baldwin trade was addition by subtraction. Have you taken a look at the numbers that he has put up since leaving the Sox? He has been one of the worst starting pitchers in the game since the trade. Finding a team to take him was a good thing let alone getting some prospects in return. By the way the best prospect that the Sox got was Majewski and he has put up some solid numbers since the trade and is only 23. He could be pitching out of the pen as early as next year. Getting rid of one of the worst pitchers in baseball was a win no matter waht, but the fact that one of the prospects has a decent shot of making the pen next year is an added bonus. The name mix up wasn't a huge deal and more of a laughing matter then serious considering neither of the 2 guys were any good. I am sorry but you are wrong on this one. Next. 4) You don't follow the minors do you? Fernandez isn't a good prospect. At BEST he will be a 4th outfielder, but in all likelyhood he won't ever step foot onto a major league field. Besides CF in the minors has become a strength with the last 3 drafts that have netted the Sox Webster, Reed, Anderson, and the 14th pick this year(cant remember his name). Its funny how no one was complaining about Jimenez when he was the only one hitting on this team. Jimenez has the chance to be a solid everyday player, while the 2 players that the Sox gave up were nothing but career minor leaguers. Thats was a win for the Sox any way you slice it. Next. 5) Where is Perry now? Riding the bench. Neither guy is an everyday player in the majors so that trade isn't a bad trade. Besides it opened up 3rd for Crede. You are really reaching on this one. Next. 6) What about Cotts? If he wasn't traded today he is considered one of the best lefty handed starters in the minors and could be a future star in the rotation. If he was traded then helped land Everett. Either way the trade consisted of more then Foulke for Koch and is still way to early to tell which team got the better deal. Once again I specificly said name a trade that was clearly bad and you have yet to do so. Next. 7) That Gange for Howry trade was BS. Apparently you didn't get the memo that later said that it was a trade made up by the papers. There was not one reliable source that said a trade like that was on the table. I realize that you are reaching for stuff to through out there, but please stick to the facts. Next. Typical. Its all KW fault when he makes a bad trade, but he shouldn't get credit for making a good trade. Why don't you come back and argue when your negative bias doesn't cloud your thought process? You have yet to name one trade that was clearly bad for the Sox. All of the above trades are bad IN YOUR OPINION, but unbias fans/experts/scouts/ect would probably disagree with you in most cases. Anything else. Have a nice day.
  3. Please inform me on other trades that were clearly bad(I am refering to the Ritchie trade)? The Durham trade is the only other trade that comes to mind, but there was no chance of keeping him so getting something in return is good. I also believe the fear of strike, which if you remember correctly was a hot topic at the time, also forced the trade of Durham. Please point out any other obvious bad trades? The fact is that you can't. One bad trade and you don't like anything else he does no matter how much it improves the team. That is a poor way or looking at things and you really need to reconsider your view of him. Its like you are holding a grudge on a boyfriend/girlfriend that broke up with you 10 years ago.
  4. Why does everyone hate this guy? He has made one bad trade and for some reason that overshadows the good moves that he has made. I love his agressive nature and his willingness to attempt to improve this team. He has also done a good job in little deals that involve minor leaguers. Today he has sent a message to the rest of baseball that the Sox are going to contend. In the end the only thing that matters is making the playoffs and I think these trades just made the Sox the favorites to win the Central. Once the playoffs start anything can happen. The Angels weren't the most talented team last year, but they were hot at the right time and thats all you need to win it all. You wouldn't trade a few prospects for a chance to make a serious ran at the playoffs. Imagine if the Sox can somehow make it to the WS and how that would effect this organization. I hate to give up prospects, but you have to realize that they are unproven potential. You are trading guys who you don't know what they are going to do in the majors from proven comidoties. There was an article last year about how prospects traded at the deadline rarely live up to their potential. Even though Cotts and Ring are top prospects they are anything for sure things. I like these trades and applaud KW.
  5. Trade Borchard, Rauch, and Jimenez/Harris/Miles/Hummel(choose one) for Beltran(throw in Rivera that catcher that the Sox just got if that isn't enough). KC gets young, cheap, players that are ready to contribute and fill weakness. The Sox finally get the true CF that they have been lacking for years. Adding him to the current roster should make the Sox the favorites to come out of the Central and it appears that the Sox are making a run at it this year. If the Sox can just find a way to get into the playoffs anything can happen ala the Angels last year. Its time to get a little realistic. There is no way that the Sox could afford to keep all of the players. Unfortunately the Sox will most likely let Colon go although I would love to keep him(at least they will get some compensation). The Sox then trade Maggs to a team like the Padres(since he said he wants to play there). The Sox ask for Vazquez and 2 good starting pitching prospects in the upper minors or currently in the majors. This should free up enough money to give Beltran his 12-14 m/yr that he is looking for. It also nets the Sox the SS for the future. Some might question why trade for Beltran and then turn around and trade Maggs, but here are 4 reasons why. 1) Age. He is 3 years younger. Maggs is in the middle of his prime, while Beltran is just entering his. 2) Defense. Maggs is a solid defensive corner outfielder, but Beltran is one of the top defensive CF's. I am a firm believe in being strong up the middle. 3) Speed. Maggs has a 20/20 season to his credit, but Beltran might be the best baserunner and most effective basestealer in the game. His SB/CB ratio is amazing. 4) Walks. The one area of Maggs game that is lacking is his patience and at his age he will probably not improve. Beltran has seen his walk total increase each year. The cost about the same. Maggs CURRENTLY has a little more power and hits for a little better average, but that might change if this season is any indication. The Sox would also get 2 solid pitching prospects in return for 1. They trade from strengths in the minor league system as well. 2B is a strength in the Sox system so losing one guy isn't a huge lose. I am beginning to lose faith in Borchard. He still has potential, but at 25 he has seen his numbers fall the last 2 years. Vazquez probably could be had with the emergence of top SS prospect Greene. I think these moves would drasticly improve this team. It is just me playing a little fantasy GM so don't take it too serious. What do you guys think? On a different note I just heard that the Sox just got Everett. Does anyone know who they gave up? I heard 3 prospects(hopefully no top prospects). I would assume that a couple(if not all) of them are pitchers. Do you guys like the trade? It appears that the Sox are making a run this year and this trade just made the Sox favorites to win the division. I think it is a good move as long as the Sox didn't give up a top prospect. This division is for the taking and getting to the playoffs is the main goal and would be a huge boast for this organization. What do you guys think about KW? BBT thinks that he has made some great moves and even called him a GOOD GM. Sorry for the length.
  6. If the Sox give up an top prospects(like a Cotts) for an Alomar or Weaver it is a mistake. The market is a buyers market if the JuanGone trade that fell through was an indication. Texas was giving up JuanGone AND paying the rest of his contract and was only receiving 2 marginal prospects in return. Alomar is in a much similar situation as JuanGone. Aging(35), big contract(about 8 million), and sub-par season(sub-.700 OPS). I am sorry but that isn't worth a top prospect. Besides the one GM that might be dumber then KW is the Mets GM. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't the Sox get compensation via draft picks if they traded for Alomar and then he signed with another team in the offseason? If this is the case than I would love to see the Sox trade for him. The Sox would probably only have to give up a marginal prospect or 2 to get him and in return get Alomar for half a season AND a compensation pick. I would do that trade in 2 seconds if this is the case. With that said how much of an improvement is Alomar over Jimenez. I realize that Jimenez makes some boneheaded baserunning and defensive plays, but does that make up for superior offense that Jimenez brings? I think it does, but I don't think Alomar is a big upgrade. Weaver is puzzling. I was one of the guys that thought the Sox should go after him last year, however, his struggles this year are discouraging. I realize that some guys just can't pitch in NY, but he has been done right terrible this year. I also don't like the fact that he didn't sign with the Sox after they drafted him. I say stay away from Weaver. If the Sox want to add another pitcher, than I say go after Ponson. Stewart would be a nice offensive player to add to the Sox, however, his D is suspect especially if you want him to play CF. It would be interesting to see what the Jays would want for him. If the Sox could move Lee I think he would be an improvement in LF and give the Sox a true leadoff hitter.
  7. Lopez is a pitcher that I really like. When I made my own top 50 Sox prospect list I put him on there. He is a big right hander who was drafted out of high school last year. He had a very good year last year, although I don't have his actual stats on hand I believe he had an ERA just above 3, fewer hits then innings pitched, and a good walks:strikeout ratio. He was a starter for most of last year, but has started this year as a reliever/closer. He has yet to allow an earned run in something like 7 innings so far. Keep an eye on this kid as he reaches the higher levels of the minors. Rex, do you happen to have last years stats for Lopez? Its nice to see Valido continues to hit, but what is up with his D. He made 2 more errors on Sunday. I thought he was suppose to be a defensive specialist?
  8. I know that we are both on the same side here, but I have to blow a few holes in your comments.... First of all, you must be REALLY good if you noticed Jeremy Reed last year and told everyone to watch out for him. If you, like Billy Beane like to use OBP as one of the most important offensive stats and that is one of the first stats you look at, then why in the hell did you like Reed? He only walked 11 times last year in 210 AB's, about half of Billy Beane's MINIMUM standard. Secondly, you can bash the Top Prospect lists and Baseball America and like publications all you want. You say "Most of the guys that have put together the top 100 prospects list probably only see certain prospects once or twice if at all" and "Most of the people that put together these lists together do so based solely on scouting reports". Can you think of a better way to rate prospects?? Do you know ANYONE that sees more players, more often?? Sure some guys aren't recognized as quickly and much of the rankings are hype, but until you can give me a better way, then I will state that they are the MOST RELIABLE sources available. Again, we are on the same side and agree that Reed has vaulted himself into a higher status, but my point was and still is valid that he is not widely recognized as such yet. He is certainly on his way, however. There are no holes in my arguement, you simply have some time on your hand and are attempting to nit pick and try and make an arguement. To begin with I watch the progress of most of the top 10 Sox pick in every draft and the fact that Reed was a 2nd round pick made me keep an eye on him. What was not to like about Reed's numbers in his first year? He hit well over .300, had a solid BB:SO ratio, stole some bases, had a good amount of doubles, ect. The fact that he was a high pick and put up good numbers is reason enough for me to tell Sox fans to keep an eye on him. If you read my post more carefully I said that I look for BB:SO ratio and even though his walk totatl wasn't that high his 1st year his ratio was still solid with almost as few strikeouts. I also read multiple scouting reports that said he had good plate disipline that should develop as he got older. Why is that so hard to comprehend? Like I said an attempt of yours to fill some time. In regards to Beane and OBP I was refering more to this season then last. And not to be a dick but wasn't his OBP in the .380's his 1st year? Is that not impressive considering the average OBP is around the .340's. It appears that one of us has holes in their arguement, and its not me. Once again if you took the time to actually comprehend my post we wouldn't be disagreeing because my post was pretty straight forward with mostly facts. You missed my point in regards to those that put together the prospect list, which is excepted since you were so quick to jump on me instead of attempt to comprehend the words that i posted(a suggestion for future reference). My major point was that prospects slip under the radar because there are so many to keep an eye on, and unless you are a 1st round pick or putting up numbers that can't be ignored they often get looked over. It does help to see the players in person as well because you are more likely to see the players that don't get the recognition that they should. Most scouts focus on the 1st round prospects or proven prospects, so there are certainly some to slip away. Also it is extremely hard to put together a top 100 lists that includes every team. There are probably about 100 prospects that are left off that could easily be included by a diferent experts oppinion(thats what happens when you have a list that includes this many possibilities). Not to mention the point that very few 1st year players make it onto the top 100 list because its hard to make judgements based solely on a half of year of pro ball. Put this all together and you get a very inaccurate list that misses a bunch of prospects. Is that clear enough for you or do you want me to paint you a picture? You can't get to much more straight forward. Most of the above is fact for the most part as well.
  9. I became a Reed fan after his good start last year. I told Sox fans that follow the minors to keep an eye on this kid at the beginning of the season on the ESPN board. The first stat I look at, after considering a prospects age and more importantly age in relavence to the level that they are at, is BB:SO for both pitchers and hitters. I am similar to Beane in the belief that OBP is one of the most important offensive stats and the fact that Reed has almost a 3:1 walks to strikeout ratio is unheard of, especially for a 22 year old kid. He is an athlete as well that does multiple things well which is nice for team filled with one dimensional players. In regard to him being nationally known as one of the top prospects in baseball(or the lack there of), I agree with Brando(for once). Most of the guys that have put together the top 100 prospects list probably only see certain prospects once or twice if at all. I mean all the major league teams have at least 4 minor league teams at A ball or above, not including rookie ball. That is a lot of traveling to see a majority of the prospects. Most of the people that put together these lists together do so based solely on scouting reports and sometimes they miss a few guys that slip under the radar. With that said if Reed continues to put up the numbers he currently is I would almost guarantee that he will make most if not all top 100 prospect lists next year. You also have to remember that this is Reeds 1st full season of pro ball. Not many prospects drafted last year make it onto top 100 lists after only half a season, especailly if they weren't a top 10 pick. He is starting to get recognized some though. If I remember correctly BA mentioned him in a recent article. Like Brando pointed out the only thing that matters is if he becomes a solid major leaguer and he is well on his way.
  10. Gload has been in the majors twice over the past three years. Once with the Cubs and with Colorado last year if I am not mistaken. I saw him a couple of times when he was with the Cubs and he looked very hitterish. I really think he has a chance to be a late bloomer. The kid has a career minor league average in the .330's. He can't be any worse then Rios or Konerko right now. I would really like to see this kid in the majors. He is a pretty decent athlete. The only thing that I really don't like about him is that he doesn't draw a lot of walks, but that is really his only weakness. His first name is Ross by the way.
  11. In reply to that guy that said the Sox would get killed in the playoffs if they make it. That may or may not be true. The key to the playoffs is to be hot at the right time. The Angels were certainly not the most talented team in the playoffs last year, but they won the WS because they were on fire at the time. Thats the beauty of the playoffs. You throw out the records. It doesn't matter whether you won 120 games or 80 games. I think the trade market is good for buyers, especially if you are taking on a big contract. Look at the JuanGone trade that fell through. Reports said that Texas was going to pay the remainder of his contract and received 2 marginal prospects from the Expos. If this is any indication of things to come, than I would much rather see the Sox hold onto Colon and get compensation via draft picks if they don't intend on resigning him. I would also like to see the Sox go after someone like Ponson who appears to be putting things together. It might only take a few marginal prospects to get him if the JuanGone trade that he rejected is an indication. The Sox might even be able to dump Konerko onto them if they feel he can rebound + a prospect. Or Lee and a marginal propsect. Or 2 marginal prospects like Gload/Hawkins and Hummel/Miles. We will have to wait and see how things are when the dust settles. The next 5 games against the Twins are huge. After the Twins and Cubs the Sox have some easy teams before the AS break. Hopefully this time they can take advantage of them and put themselves in good position. Who knows maybe Sox fans might be able to say that the Sox are in 1st at the AS break. I hope they continue to play well and add a player or two for the stretch run instead of trading them away. This is a very weak division and 88 games might be enough to win it.
  12. Should the Sox go after him if they are still in contention after the AS break? Gammons mentioned that the Sox might be after him if they continue to play well. The Sox have been mentioned with Ponson a couple of times in the past so it might be a realistic option. He will probably get a nice raise through arbitration this offseason if he continues to pitch well. Do you guys think the Sox should go after Ponson?
  13. I thought saying it twice would help get the point across and it appears like it did because people like you read it twice.
  14. How about the kid Rivera that the Sox picked up? Hitting .429/3/8 1.286 OPS. I really like what I have seen from this kid in the majors and believe that the Sox have found themselves a very good backup for Olivo for years to come. Gload has also heated up. If Konerko continues to slump I think the Sox should seriously consider calling up this kid. He has something like a .338 career minor league batting average and from what I saw of him in the few games he played with the Cubs he looks like a very good hitter. Has his average up to .336 and is a doubles machine with 24. He is also a much better athlete then Konerko. Isn't a clog on the basepads, can steal a few bases, and play both the outfield and 1B.
  15. southside, you are not by yourself. Zambrano is a future ace. He is a mix of a young Colon and Brown. Like I pointed out the thing that I like most about him is that he is a sinker/groundball pitcher. Only 4 HR's in 97 innings and 12 DP's is amazing. His stuff is electric and he just turned 22 so he is probably only going to get better. He is a workhorse as well. For the 2nd straight start in a row(for him) the Cubs bullpen was worn out and he eat up innings while keeping his team in it. That is the kind of pitcher you love to have on your staff. Lets face the facts, the chances that the Sox sign Colon is slim to none so trading him for Zambrano would be a great trade any way you slice it(much better then compensation via draft picks). To be honest with you I would do that trade even if the Sox had Colon signed for another year after this. The only problem is that there is no way that the Cubs would give up this kid. Cruz maybe, Zambrano no way.
  16. Rogowski is a guy I have always liked. I thought you guys had him ranked too low in the rankings and told you guys that his numbers would improve(he was hitting in the .240's when the rankings came out and is up to .275 now). I like him because he is an athlete that plays 1st and isn't one dimensional(ala Konerko). He is on pace for yet another 20+ SB season, he draws a ton of walks, is very good defensively(from what I hear), and he swings a pretty good stick. I think he has the potential to develop more power as he gets older. The injury last year set him back a little, but he had a very good 2001 year at low A ball(if I am not mistaken) and is starting to heat up this year. At 22 either high A or AA is where a prospect should be depending on his progress. The injury set him back a year, but I really like this guys chances. His numbers remind me of a more athletic Olerod. Keep an eye on this kid. If he continues to stay hot he could break into BA's top 10 Sox prospects for next year.
  17. How can you guys not like Zambrano? The only problem the kid has is his control. He is a sinker ball pitcher, which I love because it usually means few HR's and a lot of DP's. Sure enough the kid has only given up 4 HR's in 97 innings of work and 12 DP's, not to mention an ERA under 3. His stuff is electric and he is a workhorse. I think the comparison to a young Colon is very accurate. The kid just turned 22 and going to get better. I would love to see the Sox get their hands on this kid, but it isn't going to happen. They will trade Cruz before they trade Zambrano. In order to get Zambrano the Sox would probably have to give up Crede along with Colon(and that still might not be enough to get him). Its scary how talented some of these young Cubs pitchers are. From what I here that Guzman kid in the minors might turn out to be the best in the bunch. How come the Sox pitchers can't live up to the hype built up for them in the minors?
  18. I am a huge boxing fan and all the current talent is in the lower weight classes. I have seen Klitschko fight a few times before this and thought he had a serious chance of winning the fight tonight. Like someone mentioned he was ahead by 2 rounds on all 3 cards. He isn't flashy, but he is big and has some power. Lewis looked sluggish and not in good shape. I think the combination of a long layoff, underestimating his opponent, and his highest weight ever caused the sluggishness. I have never been a big fan of Lewis or the current heavyweight class for that matter. Lewis got lucky that the fight was called. The punch that opened the cut wasn't even clean. It was a side swipe where the leather just grazed the skin, which happens to be one of the biggest causes for opening cuts. I seriously doubt that Lewis could have gone 12 rounds. He was really breathing hard and Klitschko looked in better shape, including landing a few big shots in the 2nd that had Lewis stumbling a little. I think Lewis would have dropped his hands as the fight went on because of his lack of condition and that Klitschko would catch him with a big right that would have put him on the canvas. Lewis better get into better shape if he is going to get have a rematch with Klitschko or fight Jones. The heavyweight class is in a sad state. It consists of jab and clutch and thats it. Thats why I like the lower class and my favorite fighter is Gatti. It turned out to be a better fight then I had expected, but I was upset it was called.
  19. The difference between Maddux and Buehrle is that during Maddux's prime there were only a handful of games that Maddux didn't have pinpoint control during the season. Buehrle has lacked pin point control in almost every game this season. He is falling behind hitters more this year, and when you don't throw hard or have a great breaking ball that spells trouble. I still have faith in Buehrle and know that he is still very young(interested in seeing how he adjusts), but if a team gives the Sox a great offer for him I think they should take it, especially since he has expressed interest in getting out of Chicago and contract negociations have gone nowhere with him(I believe some of that has to do with that fact that he wants to leave). That is not the kind of player I want on my team. I wish Buehrle the best of luck and hope that he can turn it around, but my realistic opinion is that he is going to be nothing more then a middle of the rotation guy.
  20. I hate to say this, but the league is starting to catch up with Buehrle. If he doesn't have pin point control he gets hit hard and thats the way that it will probably be the rest of his career. I hate the fact that he said he wanted to play for the Cardinals. A player shouldn't say that under any circumstances and because of that I am no longer a fan of his. At this point I wouldn't mind trading him because I think his future is as a middle of the rotation starter for the rest of his career. Maybe the Sox can get a couple of very good prospects from a team looking for pitching and who still believe that he is an ace?
  21. The Cubs bullpen is going to be dead for the last game of this series and the following series. Wellemeyer threw 90+ pitches and probably wont be available for at least 3 days since it was pretty much a start for him. The Sox also faced 4 other relievers yesterday and are already into the bullpen in the 4th in todays game. Lets hope that they continue to work the counts, put some runs up, and hurt the Cubs in the future by wearing out their pen for their next series. What a great start to this weekend? Where has this Sox offense been for the majority of the season?
  22. I also really like Nixon, but I am not sure whether Boston is going to give up an important part to there team. Maybe Colon, Gordon, Wunsch, and Rowand might be enough to pry away Fossum, Sanchez, and Nixon.
  23. This might be one of the better defensive games this year. Not including the Crede error in the 1st of course. All 3 outfielders have made some very nice catches. Both Jimenez and Valentin have made tough running players were they had to charge and hurry a throw because of the speed of the base runner. Its nice to see some good D for once and it is one of the main reasons that the great Red Sox offense filled with .300 hitters only has 1 hit. How about that 1 hit through 8 for the best offense in the AL. Sox pitching has retired 23 of the last 24 batters if I am not mistaken. Good job by Wright to come back after a rough start. Lets get some runs and win this game. The Boston bullpen is their weakness. Taking 3 out of 4 from a team like Boston would be a huge step in the right direction heading into big series with the Cubs and Twins.
  24. chisoxfn, I really like you starting lineup on the 1st page. The only problem is that I don't think the parts add up. I think the Sox would be giving up too little and getting too much in return. Still a good idea though and a team that is much more athletic and better defensively. I think Fossum and Sanchez for Colon and Gordon is a fair trade for both teams. You have to take into consideration that Colon and Gordon might not be rent a players for Boston. They will probably be one of the teams after Colon this offseason, so if he pitches well for them they would probably make a good effort at resigning him. If Gordon pitches well for them, than they might also attempt to resign him for 1 or 2 years with their bullpen problems. Boston won't be giving up players that play an important role. Fossum has been moved out of the rotation and Sanchez is a utility infielder right now not getting much PT. In return they get a front of the rotation starter and a solid right handed reliever. Add that to the #1 offense in the AL and a poor pitching staff and the Red Sox are much improved and maybe the favorites to come out of the AL in the playoffs. You don't think Boston management would trade 2 prospects for 2 players that could put them over the hump and in the WS? The White Sox get a SS for the future that they need. Sanchez's natural position is short and from what I have heard he is a pretty solid defensive player. He doesn't have a great arm or range, but is solid in both catogories. Fossum is a lefty starter with plus stuff and decent major league sucess in his career. Can the Sox please trade Konerko. I was never a huge fan of Konerko even when he was hitting, because he still was a one dimensional player. He is average at best defensively, possible the slowest player in the game, and refuses to walk. When he isn't hitting he might be the worst everyday hitter in baseball. The Sox need to get more athletic and getting rid of Konerko is a start. I would say wait until he has heated up, but I seriously don't know when that will be so just get rid of him for a used jock for all I care. I could never understand why people thought that Konerko was better then Lee.
  25. 1) Most of the offense was in place before KW became GM. Thomas, Konerko, Durham(until this year), Valentin, Lee, Maggs. It is not as if this is the offense that KW wanted or put together himself. Same can be said about the defense and running game considering most of these guys make up both. 2) Why change something that isn't broken? The Sox ranked 1st in runs scored in 2000, 6th in 2001, and 3rd last year. I didn't hear people complaining about the offense then, but everyone desides to go into a season long slump and perform under expectations and that is KW's fault? Give me a break Yasny. You are just looking for a person to blame and the coaches/management is the 1st place to look even though they don't have anything to do with how the players play. The defense and running game has been middle of the pack through most of KW's years. 3) You put together a very good offense, middle of the pack defense, bullpen, and running game to go with an improved starting staff(with the addition of Colon) and thats a team talented enough to win a weak Central division. And thats the GM's job, to put enough talent on the field to make the playoffs, so put the blame where it should be placed, the players. The funny thing is that if the Sox turn it around and somehow make the playoffs I guarantee that most posters will give the players all of the credit. Funny how that works, if the team suceeds its because of the players, but if they struggle its the coaches/managements fault. Thats all the use I have for you Yasny. Thanks for playing
