you can trade after the deadline if the guy clears waivers.. what was wrong with ritchie other than the fact that he sucked??..he never lost velocity or complained about being hurt unitl he went on the DL...every pitcher who approaches briam kingman"dom" goes on the DL...when ritchie went on he was still on pace for 21 loses
-
I don't think the players union would allow that. It happens in the Minors, but I don't think it is realistic in this scenario. The Sox just need to send JP down and gamble that he will clear waivers. If he doesn't, it would not be the end of the world. I wish the NBA had as strong a union as MLB (they have possibly the strongest union in America). People are put on the IR all the time in the NBA when they're perfectly healthy. I think that's BS. it happened last year with toad ritchie What did putting Ritchie on DL achieve? Not letting him get 20 losses? .... Let's see. They put him on the DL, then he pitches 2 innings or so, before walking as a FA. They could have just released him to prevent the 20 loss thing. But, they couldn't release him if he wasn't injured. A fake injury just makes no sense in this scenario. they might have been trying to work out a trade..wanted him off the roster so they put him on the DL so they could get his replacement up here...but ritchie pitched so bad that no contender ,no matter how bad they needed a veteran 5th starter would bite..so they just released him i like really sure thats what it was...like 90%...

I wanted to think that Koch would be the flame throwing closer for us. It's starting to look like you called this one right. i was really concerned about him that is why i was agruing the point of the trade. but this cotts kid may make the trade a plus. Sure hope so. Cotts is supposed to have great movement on his pitches. Absolutely have to salvage this trade one way or another. and i remember i was one of the few who really hated this trade. i mention it before and i will say it again. the development of valentin vs cotts will tell who got the best. i dont look at it that way because we need a closer that can do his job this year..if koch blows 8 saves or so and by july we red flag the season and dump colon then what good was it really getting neal cotts???...sure we "might" have a quality lefty a couple years down the road but again it cost us a shot at post season to do it....we are always building for a future that never seems to arrive... koch has to be successful and if we arnt and we can point to this trade as the reason we didnt make the playoffs then its also the reason we wont keep colon and god knows who else...if we go deep in the playoffs it could mean a 3 year deal for colon...thats colon and buehrle for 3 more years..now we are serious playoff contenders with experience...koch has to get it in gear right now.. this is kinda like the olivo bradford trade....yeah we got a catcher that in the long run will probably pan out over bradford but how much help could chad have been in '01 and '02 when all those pitching injuries hit and the bullpen imploded game after game???... right now oakland's set up man and closer are players that learned their trade with us..if they make the playoffs again coming out of the tough west and we dont how could we ever call these good trades???..and thats despite the fact that i love how olivo plays...

so what you are saying is he is not jim parque , he's just throwing like him
-
cmon you have to go with soriano because he has proved it over an entire season...jimenez could still end up hitting his career average...soriano is a freak
-
Yeah, he's playing well. But, we chose Daubach and Rios for our back-up roles. I think we need to give them a few more AB's before we start second guessing. it was second guessing per se but a group of us wanted him and wondered at the time if he was worth the money. however we started to hear about his attitude and i am still wondering if that was not the sox doing in justifing that picking him up. How much did the Giants pay him? 3.7 mil $3.7M a year? I don't think the Sox would have given him that much. Hell, we got Loaiza, Daubach, Rios, White, and Gordon for that much. what needed to happen was we trade carlos lee and his 4.2 million off to whoever..preferable for a starting pitcher better than jon garland...then we sign cruz and we would have that starting pitcher at a net 500k savings off his salary
-
Are you sure about that? I think Jon has only only used one or two options in 2001 and maybe 2000 (not sure when he was put on the 40-man). Surely he wasn't on the 40-man in 1999 when he started at W-S. If I recall correctly, he was placed on the 40-man in 2000 but didn't he end the season in Chicago? Did he get sent down after he ws promoted to Chicago? He had a rehab start for Birmingham, but that does not count as an option. In 2001, he split between Chicago and Charlotte, so there was an option there. He was in the Majors all of 2002 so no option there. Unless there is something else to the option rules that i am missing, Garland has options to spare. wasnt '00 his first option year??...'01 his 2nd and '02 his 3rd??...we can send him up and down as many times as we want in those three years..options are years ,not individual times you go up and down..if that was the case josh paul would have been out of options in '01 the question is since he didnt start the '00 on the roster but was added later in the year does the '00 season count as an option year....i could be wrong on that counting as an option year...if it doesnt then yes job has one more year left garland signed and played in the cubs org in '97...so this is his 6th year in pro ball..again 6 years total puts a guy out of options too..but again does 97 count towards an option year since he played short season ball??....jon is definately ina gray area as far as my understanding of how all the diffferent types of options work

I'm pretty sure SI has the transcript in an issue from back then. Try a search of their archives maybe? But the quick version was... H - "Albert, how do you feel about the game tonight?" A - "How the f*** do you think I feel. What the f*** are you even doing in here? Get the f*** out of here." that albert belle was a real ladies man huh steff???

another thing about botch..when he pitches does anyone else have alan embree flashbacks??? botch is a mirror image of embree
-
agghhhhhh...... we had to get rid of valentine for his stupid ass didnt we..........geez us................ :finger :finger :finger :finger botch........ I think it's time to let Marte have the closing role. Botch has just sucked Koch!!! (I love puns.) CWSOX45 I like puns too....but I'd have Gordon close, not Marte. Marte's a lefty...and he's awesome in the 7th and 8th(not to say he's not awesome in the 9th either)....but he's needed more in those situations. IMO....if 3 big lefties were coming up in the 9th....I wouldn't be a dipship and send Gordon out to the mound. I'd send Marte up. But just the same....if there are 3 righties coming up....I'm not gonna send Damaso out there.....even if they pinch hit one or two of the righties with LH hitters...I'm still going with Gordon. Both are good enough pitchers that they can get a guy out from either side of the plate. Let's just hope that Koch gets his fastball up there to 98 or so real f***in quick. I don't want him to throw 94 or 95 with this curve-ball s***. I want Koch to throw the ball real f***ing hard....that's what we brought him here to do, isn't it? Not f*** around with a curveball or slider. witesoxfan..i always like that idea...not really a closer by committee but dual closers..as the game plays itself out after 7 innings you could whether the righty should pitch the 8th and the lefty the 9th or visa versa..we did that with osuna and marte last year with alot of success.

well this one is really kinda funny...my nephew was having trouble with racoons at his house..they were everywhere..they would get in the garage and s*** everywhere and racoon s*** is the most vile smelling s*** in the world...so he set some traps and caught about 15 of them...these were human traps and he took them put them in a garbage can and put it in the back of this truck and were going to take them to a forest preserve about 10 miles away....now he secures the garbage can to the back of his pickup with only one bungee cord and its about halfway up the can....so we turn onto thorndale and are going about 45mph when i turn around and look out the rear view mirror...the wind cause the garbage can to slide down the tailgate at about a 60* angle..the lid came off and the raccons were climbing out of the can..as they jumped out they would get caught in the air flow over the top of the truck and fly backwards right into the car behind us' winshield...when i first turned around there was about 5 raccons airbourne smashing into this guys windshield...i could see a look of horror on his face and his wife/girlfriend was screaming her head off..i swear i think i could hear her....he slammed on his brakes and was skiding all over the road as more raccons fly back at him....i was cracking up telling my nephew he better pull over..we did...and my nephew gets out (he is about 6'7" , 250)..the guy in that car we assaulted with raccons took one look at him and just floored it...as they passed us the guy's wife/girlfriend was still screaming

Good point, never thought about the waivers aspect. And I agree, send him to the pen. Who will we send down, then? Because we'll have to clear a roster space to make room for Danny, right? i think with miguel showing us he can handle the everyday ctacher chires we could send down paul..there is a good chance he would clear waivers anyway
-
HSC, you were right...not that I ever doubted you about Miguel but he's a lot better than I thought he would be. The kid can play D, hit, run, and has an incredible intensity level. I think the major reason we won that game against KC earlier in the homestand was because Miguel slid into first base causing the Royal fielder to panic and throw the ball away. I have to say it's early, but I love the kid! CWSOX45 hey i try and do my best to pick out the good guys........i think i did good on this one........ i think we'll keep him..atleast until cheapass has to actually pay him his worth
-
soriano just hit another grand slam today..thats 20 rbi out of the lead off spot already..this kid is insane
-
the way we are playing id settle for 3-3 if 2 of those came against the twins...or if all three did..even better
-
we couldnt send jon to the minors w/o him clearing waivers..and somebody would claim him...but a ticket to join gary glover in long relief might be the wake up call garland needs..cant have a guy with a plus 7 era in the rotation...id give him 3 more starts...thats about the time DW should be back...if he is still throwing home run balls then its the bullpen
-
the problem with garland is if he doesnt have his best stuff he cant get guys out...he needs to get away from this im a sinkerball pitcher and can only throw 88 mph....he has a classic power pitchers body...he struck somebody out today with a 4 seamer up in the zone that had some pop...then he never that pitch again..there is a reason why you dont hear about the "crafty righty"...cause they suck garland needs to find that 94 mph fastball he had in the minors...use it as an out pitch...then when he thowes the sinker , curve , change , they will all look that much better...he is another guy that got nardified
-
OT: Last time I checked Kip has become a very good #2-3 pitcher and a co-ace of the Pirates. If you saw him reach 97 mph during one 12-pitch battle in the 7th inning (against Cubbie hitter I think) I would definately not call him a pussy. He was one, he is not anymore. I'll agree with that. He was the biggest sissy you could put on the mound when he was here though. kip wasnt a pussy...he was nardified...throw our off speed stuff kip...pitch the corners until its a 3-0 count...no dont challenge a guy try and trick him...nardi screwed him and in the process the white sox too

how is this manuel's fault???....it wasnt him hanging curves and sinkers belt high middle in to all the cleveburg hitters geez...another homer 7-0...man this is now officially fugly Easy, He a dam Moran. Tinkering with the dam lineups, Leaving Buherle in there to LOng, No hit and runs no sacrafices no nothing, Just hidding in that dam corner of the Dugout. The sould put a f***ing sign there Manuel's Corner I swear the Sox lead the League in Rally Killing you want him to sacrifice down 5-0??? as for leaving buehrle in he is our ace..you stick with them longer.. im not a manuel fan and wouldnt mind it at all if weally backman was the manager but be fair about it...the team has flat out stunkl the last 2 days..nothing manuel could have done would have changed that
-
man did cleveburg get locked in all of a sudden....if our pitchers hang um..they are banging them...no fouling them back to the screen or jerking them foul like the sox hitters are...if its over the plate its in the cheap seats
