  1. QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:33 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> we can thank those crazy idiot philly fans and their crazy media that hasn't seen a winner in about 50 years. 1980 with the Dallas Green team, right?
  2. Let's see if Floyd mans up in the rest of his outing tonight. Pitch aggressively, pitch inside, etc. It may sound strange but it is clear he's got a good arm. Personally I am really unhappy with the pitch calling. Not to absolve him of blame but they have not established inside.
  3. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have a nice break. See you on the 21st. Thank you heads22.
  4. QUOTE(kwolf68 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...this team is embarassingly bad. Yes. If you are going to get your rear end kicked, at least make it uncomfortable for the opposing hitters. I am not talking about drilling guys but make them move their freaking feet. You gave up 20 runs in the first game and now another 5 thus far, show some stones.
  5. It looks like the Twins have timed Gavin's heat. It also appears the White Sox have a problem going inside on the hands on these hitters. The Twins are looking out over the plate and there it is.
  6. So Morneau is looking for a first pitch fastball, guess what, he gets one right over the heart.
  7. QUOTE(JohnCangelosi @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 07:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Agreed 100%. He should have just attacked him and don't be afraid of the bat. That curve ball is a nasty pitch but there is no reason to throw it when he looked a little bit off on his fastball. Yes. We just saw a perfect example on the Josh Fields at bat. Fields couldn't get around on the fastball so any breaking pitch Garza threw (or the dugout called) were out of the zone. Let the young hitter try to get himself out. A decent AB by Fields because he didn't get himself out. But when push came to shove Garza went to the cheese because Fields couldn't get around on it.
  8. QUOTE(JDsDirtySox @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just got home... did Gavin look nervous in the first or just bad? Neither JD. He (in my opinion) did not bear down vs. Cudyher and he walked him. He threw a rolling curve ball which Morneau hit out but my beef on that is why call that pitch, it was the absolute wrong time to slow Morneau's bat down especially after he couldn't get around on Floyd's fastball.
  9. DJ rips into Owens and rightfully so. What a stupid play. I sense Hawk is ready to explode with this nonsense.
  10. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 06:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> now when rosters expand to 40 man and you are called up do you use an option? No.
  11. Well his fastball is snapping but I would like to know who calls for an offspeed pitch in that situation? Morneau fouled off the fastball so what happens, you slow down Morneau's bat and it's 3-0. Go up and in on his hands on 1-2. No, instead they call for an offspeed pitch. Then again Floyd has to bear down on Cudyher. You can't walk him and bring up Morneau.
  12. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> HEY! I found it. August 30th, 1970. Jerry Janeski was your starting pitcher in a 21-11 Sox loser to Boston. It took place at Old Comisky. Hawk's idol Carl Yastrzemski went 1-5 w/ a 3 run HR. Good God, Jerry Janeski. Wow was he bad. That year was worse than this year, as bad as this one is.
  13. QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And this from Jayson Stark ESPN Insider Jul 6 - According to ESPN.com's Jayson Stark, the White Sox are reportedly marketing Buehrle aggressively, but teams are balking at the price -- three players with two being prime-time prospects. Stark is also hearing that Boston might be getting back in on Buehrle and trying to expand the deal to include Julio Lugo. Thanks for posting this, interesting info. It's all speculation anyways but Stark generally has his ear to the ground. None of these people have the true scoop but Stark is one of the better ones.
  14. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 02:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think maybe Ozzie is sending a message to Kenny. I could be wrong, but Ozzie wants a speed guy and he's going to tell Kenny either get me a good one or I'll just trot out a s***ty guy that can run (and yes I'm being overly harsh on Owens but its the truth). Agree. It is not necessarily Guillen rubbing it in KW's face but for whatever reason they seem to think if Owens settles in, he might be a leadoff option. I totally disagree. Even if he is, where do you play him? His arm is woefully weak for CF, he can't play RF and can barely handle LF. Plus you'd like to have some power from the OF corners. Neither Owens or Sweeney for that matter give that. Once again it all comes down to this, get better players. But yes, I would take Sweeney out there over Owens.
  15. QUOTE(spiderman @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Isn't he out of options ? Maybe they are just sick of his act, and want to make sure everything looks good with his arm/shoulder. No he is not out of options. They already optioned him once this year which means he had at least one left. He can be called up and sent down at any point this year. The option is good for the whole season.
  16. QUOTE(michelangelosmonkey @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 09:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Ozzie also has a great sense of the marathon nature of the game. He'll defend Uribe's fielding after a crucial error because he knows it's not a game of perfection. He'll trot Aardsma out there for five disasters in a row in May because he sees the potential in the kid and he knows if he can turn it around he will be a key player for the rest of the year. He will stick with guys like Garland and Contreas and Vaquez through long slumps where we the fan would have traded them away for a bucket of balls. He'll let a guy like Danks pitch in the 8th with two runners on, while he's tiring, because he knows someday the kid will need to know how to do this and might as well do it with an 8 run lead. Very well stated, what you point out here is an oft misunderstood and ignored aspect of what a mgr. does.
  17. To me, MacDougal is too high maintenance. Lost confidence, bad mechanics, an iffy shoulder, what's next. Seeing as he's signed to a reasonable contract and teams still like his so called power arm, I hope they get him somewhat healthy and trade him to a bullpen desperate contender. Get something back for this guy and move on.
  18. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 6, 2007 -> 01:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Funny cause I remember this guy initially getting some comparisons to Mariano Rivera (just in terms of his deliver and arm action). Boy were those scouts off, haha. Yes, and one of those scouts was Duane Shaffer. He drafted this guy twice and the 2nd time overdrafted him.
  19. Having spent a lot of time in Tucson the one thing I can tell you about Rauch is he had a big league attitude and a low A ball work ethic. The top prospect thing went to his head, he had trouble with coaches and teammates. Right or wrong, those types of guys tend to get less rope.
  20. QUOTE(GreenSox @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 11:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ...his strategy is limited to lefty/righty (I doubt his staff provides him the info to make deeper decisions); he has zero interest in developing young talent, to the severe deteriment of the team; overall, he has assembled a weak staff with no one manager material in the future; and most of all, I disagree with his offensive philosophy of hack at everything. This is inaccurate to say the least. He consistently preaches getting better at bats, but the players appear to be too stubborn. Cora has interviewed for manager jobs and Razor Shines is regarded as a potential future manager. As for young talent, he's given lots of rope to Danks, Masset, Fields, Uribe over the past few years, Logan, Owens is getting another chance, etc. etc. Regarding staff providing him info, Mike Gellinger for one gives him tons of information, both in written form and video.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nope, Rosenthal was quoting other baseball executives about the Garcia thing. The thing is, everyone in baseball knows that 4/56 is too good of a deal for the Sox to pass up. However, that doesn't mean it will happen. It was quite clearly his opinion too, whether you choose to believe it or not. He spoke on radio several times and expanded on his thoughts. Rosenthal has also subsequently stated on radio his thoughts on the Phillies not doing a good job with medical screening regarding Garcia. He has his opinions, he states them, just like he did here with Buehrle. He uses his sources to back his opinions, it happens with a lot of columnists.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 12:04 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Farmer got his information directly from Buehrle about the 14 million, and that happened when everyone in the world was quoting 4/50. There's one big difference between the Rosenthal's (even though I think it was Jayson Stark) report on this situation and the Garcia one. On the Garcia trade, he said he got his information from other team's executives. Rosenthal does nothing but give his own opinion on this Buehrle deal though, as he would be shocked if we didn't get this done due to the concessions being made by Buehrle. I do find it you mention time tables, as it's been KW and Cowley mentioning when they wanted things done. This has to get done so one way or another, as even KW has said he won't make any other moves until the Buehrle situation is resolved. Rosenthal was adding his opinion on the Garcia thing too. After all, he went with it and printed it. If he didn't believe that particular viewpoint he would have stated otherwise. And that is exactly the point, it all depends on who you believe in this scenario, or any other scenario for that matter. Personally I don't believe the timing of gifting a Rolex means anything.
  23. Chicago White Sox Signed: RHP Adam Bowling (NDFA, Georgia State), RHP Phillip Robbins, 2B Joe Persichina (NDFA, Arizona State), 3B C.J. Retherford (NDFA, Arizona State), OF Adam Shabala Draft picks signed: RHP John Ely (3), RHP Justin Klipp (22), C John Curtis (14), OF Nick Mahin (16) Released: 1B Jeremy West Placed on suspended list: C Francisco Hernandez Reinstated from disabled list: C Reymundo Tavares Persichina and Retherford joined the organization as free agents after the Sun Devils were eliminated from the College World Series. Retherford was a reserve most of the season before hitting four homers in NCAA tournament play.
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 11:42 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Farmer was the first person to report Buehrle wanted 14 million a year. That's nice. Information was leaking all over the place, who knows where Farmer picked it up. You have pissing contests going on between reporters and Merkin, it is a spaghetti bowl of information. You were the guy who as I recall from reading, believed Rosenthal when he said the Sox could have gotten more for Freddy. Well now he is saying Buehrle will sign. Why not go with that instead of Buehrle giving a watch to AJ as a doomsday scenario that MB will be traded? You see, it's all a tangled web. Let it play out, then everyone can squawk. Just because things arent getting done in accordance with SoxTalk posters' timetables means nothing. Things will happen in due course.
