QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How can people be a fan of this Masset kid? Tough to say. He should have been sent down two weeks ago. He is clearly out of sorts.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You did notice that someone who's been around here a lot longer than you completely understood I was joking about Hendry? Thought you were done responding. Another day in spinsville I guess.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm just not going to respond to this crap anymore. Find someone else to act as their subconscious. Just calling it as I see it, and apparantly a couple of others too. Or should I say "we" as you do. It's all opinions anyways, what's the difference.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're talking to the wrong person if you think I'm afraid of sticking up for what I believe in. You post so much, you forget what you say. When it's brought up, you say you meant something else. That appears to be the pattern. Whatever man, knock yourself out, 3 posters called you out in this thread and you went into spin mode.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Did you not notice me also saying that they severely downgraded their catching position? Good grief, if you have such a problem with what I say, just put me on ignore. You weren't around during the offseason when I was ripping on Hendry. Maybe you should quit your constant spinning and fess up when you're called out. Just an idea.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Um....that was 100 pct sarcasm. Did you notice how I said underneath that Linebrink is nothing special? The Pierre trade from last year isn't ridiculed enough. No it wasn't. Wow can you spin. Your post had Linebrink in the Cubs bullpen, you said it gave them 5 quality righthanders. I qouted it because you reacted first, then got the truth on the trade later.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's one major part of the reason I've heard....the other is because his best friend on the team won't be back either. Also, the 5 year contract talk is not accurate. I have heard the same thing that the 5 yr. bit is not necessarily true. As for the friends stuff I dont think it matters to Williams. He has his eyes on certain talent and other teams have their eyes on certain Sox players.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think it's interesting that Hawk used a very peculiar voice when he told Sox fans to not be surprised by anything they do. FWIW, I heard something yesterday that we might be surprised at who the first Sox starter traded is. The buzz in Bridgeport is Garland because he would fetch the most.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh man, heads are going to roll immediately following Sunday's game. Should be fun. Agree kalapse. They have demoted relievers, benched the 2B, and now fired the scouting director. Seems to me trades are next.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, but "Yes but" means no. Just stick with the "yes" because your position is well known. As mentioned, stop trying to deny it. Make your stand and stick with it. There's a reason you just got called out by 3 posters.
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually no, I haven't flat out said that Ozzie should be fired. BS. More than once in the last few weeks in your fits of frustration you've said you can't wait until OG is fired. Which is fine, it's your opinion, no problem there. Stop trying to deny it though.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes. You say that alot Just about every day, I think his position is well known by now.

Not a surprise. Shaffer was basically put on notice over the winter and KW wants Dave Wilder in that spot. We'll see what ends up happening but I do expect them to bring in someone from outside the org. in some capacity, not necessarily Dir. of Scouting but in some position of significant input.

My understanding (recollection?) is a 3 year extension, $34M.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 09:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wouldn't surprise me....if there's one thing Hendry knows how to do, it's to get a lot of value for his players via trade. The Cubs now have 5 good righty relievers in Dempster, Marmol, Linebrink, Wuertz, and Howry. Did you want to edit this? This is addition by subtraction for the Cubs. My guess is Pinella wanted Barrett out of there. The catcher they got is good defensively and a switch hitter if nothing else. The trade market is now open.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:58 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually it makes perfect sense with what what said yesterday. There are all kinds of reports about teams calling us about players, and us asking for the moon. Kenny gets frustrated because he wants to move players, but he also knows he can't give them away either, or he will get crucified by the local fans and media for "White Flag II". So instead he decides to drag the capitian in and tell them they are all getting traded to where ever he can send them unless they get it going. Maybe this wake up call will work better once they all start thinking about being forced out of their comfort zones here in Chicago. It sounds like vintage Kenny Williams to me. southsider2k5, yours is a good point as well. The team came out and played with a little extra zip last night. Too bad some of the same stupid mistakes are being made like players getting picked off, and having to use Jenks due to our relievers walking guys. Guillen looked at the end of his rope when asked after the game about Masset's inability to finish the game. I am surprised he wasn't sent down this A.M. If there is a good thing in all this they are seeing what some of these AAA guys can do. Fields shows promise. Owens not too much (in my eyes). Terrero, talent but still making dumb mistakes which has been his problem thru his whole career. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:05 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unless five different scouts were lying in unison this weekend, Mark Buehrle is definitely being shopped around. Heck yes he is being shopped. Maybe not shopped but they are listening.

Great discussion here, excellent posts by both Addison and Tony. The brain trust will not give this ship much more time to sail and I suspect they know full well it has run aground. There are lots of rumors out there though, and expect many more. Which means the Yes We Are Open sign is up for trade business. I like what Williams says when he comments hey, if we don't get exactly what we want we'll ride this thing out and take draft picks if these guys leave. Which means they are valuing what they might get in trade vs. 1st or supplemental round picks.

I wonder how bad Anderson's shoulder/arm is. They have him at DH and he is not doing well. 147 AB's now and a .238 average.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> So if the Mets come and offer the farm, everything KW wants and more, he will say I have to pass because my impending FA and soon to be former WS is about to be a daddy. KW is dealing in a position of strength. There is nothing on the market with Marks pedigree. The minute KW gets something that he believes makes him better team for a long time, he will pull the trigger. Maybe he will and I hope he does. It is speculating, it wouldn't be the first time an org. has done a respected player a favor. Williams is prob. just in the early stages of fielding offers anyways. We will see how it plays out.

That walk might be the last straw for Masset, if they have someone in AAA. -
QUOTE(spiderman @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You're stretching. There's going to be too much difference between what the White Sox offer and some other team does because of the difference in the length of the contract. Huh? My point is the Sox might wait to trade him until after the birth of his child, as a courtesy to MB and his wife because they think so highly of him.

QUOTE(premo @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why was he bunting with men on first and second, no outs, and we're up by 4? My guess is because the Sox bullpen is bad. -
On this Buehrle stuff I see on the Sox front page MB comments about the impending birth of their child. Maybe someone who follows all the off the field stuff might know when the child is due? The Sox have great respect and fondness for Buehrle and I wonder if its out of the box to think that as a courtesy to MB they would wait to move him until after the birth? Unless it is after 7/31 I suppose. Who knows, just a thought.

They just reported it, slight quad strain, precautionary.
