  1. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:12 PM) VORP compares a player to a league-average player at his position. I thought that was OPS+ VORP, i think the other guy is correct?
  2. Dunn will be lucky to get 5 mil per year!
  3. So Dye for 12 million/1 year, and Manny 50+million/2 years, are the two last high-profile right handed sluggers on the market?
  4. well i missed pretty much all of it lol, bleh
  5. he hasn't even played in the big leagues yet, omg lol what if he doesn't rake in ST? what if he hits like .240 with 1 HR? i think we're getting too far ahead of ourselves here, well some of you are (beating franks all-time sox HR record, please!)
  6. My bold prediction, the Yankees (even after spending mucho dollar this off-season) finish 3rd or 4th place, either ahead or behind the blue jays.
  7. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) And just because something's illegal, doesn't mean there's something wrong with doing it, or if the law's right. That's besides any arguable point. This discussion is about what is and isn't allowed by baseball. If something isn't allowed at the most basic levels (Federal & State Law), then of course it isn't allowed in baseball. Whether YOU think it's right or wrong is irrelevant. You can THINK the laws against marijuana are wrong, but what you think doesn't matter. The law is the law.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 06:11 PM) /throws topic grenade, runs. What's worse, a legal (at the time) PED or an illegal recreational drug? If MLB never enforced it, how was it illegal/cheating? Recreational use of anabolic steroids has been illegal, by federal law, for as long as I can remember. Something that's illegal by law doesn't necessarily need it's own baseball rule governing over it, it's common sense
  9. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) Hahahhaah, I agree! I honestly think Viciedo will at least surpass Frank Thomas in the all-time home runs list. um...
  10. He did it for three years (2001-2003) Watching the interview, he seemed really upset/emotional while talking to Gammons. I've always heard he had a huge conscience, and tried doing the right things, whether that's accurate or not... I don't know, but he looked like he was truly sorry for this You never know though, some people are hard to read
  11. A-Rod just admitted that he knowingly used steroids, to Peter Gammons This should be interesting
  12. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) $90+ Million is CHEAP? This post has been edited by the Soxtalk staff to remove objectionable material. 15. omg that kid is a BEAST
  16. Who else thinks we should sign ben sheets? hahahahahah get real
  17. Bartolo's "ceiling" is higher than Garland's, a lot higher But will injuries prevent him from reaching that ceiling, or anywhere close to it Also, will Garland's shoulder knot problem resurface preventing him from being useful in 2009 (And perhaps, is a reason for his lackluster performance in 2008)
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 06:03 PM) Excellent point obviously, dye would be gone if abreu was brought in, that would make quentin and abreu the corner OF's
  19. slightly off topic, any reason why i can't purchase the spring training mlb.com package? it's saying i already purchased an equivalent package i bought the package last year along with the regular season package, but that should be reset since this is a new year right? my credit card hasn't been automatically billed for this season yet either, so it's not like they already auto-charged me for this season
  20. Looks like Ozzie is not afraid to hand the 3B job to Dayan, as long as he earns it out of ST I like to hear that
  21. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/prospects/y2009/ Slightly different list than what was on ESPN
  22. I still say Bonds gets in, and widespread pandemonium ensues
  23. QUOTE (Reddy @ Jan 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) a) because we're allowed to make statements of opinion and b ) because without the roids he never would have been able to recover from all his injuries, never would have been able to be the best player in the game through his 40's (see frank thomas). he and frank were equivalent players in their prime - and both were big guys (by the end for bonds) so why has franks game diminished while Bonds' soared? cuz he could bounce back from injury faster and didn't have to deal with the effects of aging. of course we're allowed to make statements of opinion, but when you word your statement "he never would have", that's not an opinionated statement, it's made as fact. you need to word it more like "I don't think he ever would have", in order for it to be understood as an opinion IMO Bonds has always had a better batters eye than Frank, as well as a quicker bat I love frank, but he's never been on Bonds level And Bonds, as far as I know, was never an oft-injured player in his 30's like Frank was, though I would have to research this to form a more concrete opinion on it. I know Bonds has had knee problems but he played the outfield, and players into their 30's generally start to wear down in the legs Frank was injured quite often, and he was a DH
