  1. From RotoWorld: Brian Anderson - OF - White Sox Brian Anderson homered, singled, walked twice and stole three bases for Mesa of the AFL yesterday. Anderson entered the game 11-for-53, giving him a .208 average. Oct. 31 - 4:24 pm et
  2. I got a little mixed up on whether this year being his last was 05 or 06 in your post, so to clarify, according to Dugout Dollars, in 2006 he has a player option for $10 million, the team has an option for $12 million and a team buy out for $3.5 million. And 2006 is indeed the last year of the contract.
  3. Also, Brian Daubach had 75 ABs with the Red Sox this year.
  4. He doesn't want to be a GM, he wants to be an owner. And judging from his past efforts to get a team he has enough money to be part of an ownership group. What if the stock holders let him buy a chunk and bring him in as heir apparent to 68 year old JR?
  5. Here is article CBS Sportline lifted for their report. Cowley went on to include the KW remark that started this thread. Like I said above, if KW was led to believe that this was recent then he I can see him getting upset. In any case, the is more NOTHING than something here.
  6. In no way are the Sox wrong for pulling the offer when it became questionable whether he could play. And there is no way Magg's should have signed the old offer, 'very, very fair' or not, without at least testing it against bids from other teams. Heck, I can't buy cardboard boxes for the shop without cross quoting, why is baseball different? My issue is with folks who are defaming Ordonez' character. It seems it's OK for the Sox to pull back from a player after 13 years with the organization 'for the good of the club', but if that player enters the free agent market he is disloyal, greedy and selfish? Folks are trying to have this both ways.
  7. It wasn't really a proper quote in the article. Here is what it read after KW's comments: "GM Ken Williams on the news that OF Magglio Ordonez said back in June he felt the organization was taking him for granted." I remember Magg's saying that, or something to that effect, before he got hurt, but I wonder if KW, in October, was aware that Magg's said it in June.
  8. "That dreamers often lie." My personal favorite, Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet. It's the only line in the whole play that I remember. Enough, we'll kill this thread.
  9. We shall see. If I turn out to be wrong, don't forget to remind me.
  10. If Boras can sell him as healthy, he will get more than that offer even after the injury.
  11. Not at all, they were probably going to lose him to FA anyway, but if Maggs could have played the second half they might have gone to the play offs. As mad as everybody gets about the money side, don't forget what a great player this guy is.
  12. Yeah, but if you recall it was rumored that a big part of the offer was in 'Riensdorfian' dollars, or future payments without provisions to keep the net present value of deal equivalent to Vlads.
  13. I agree and I'm very surprised. Maggs was a class act, on and off the field, through out all his years with the Sox. The Maggs quote was from June before the extent of his injury was known (even to him) and I'm sure he was disappointed at not being offered 'Vlad' money, he said so several times. I doubt they told KW it was from June, judging from the context of his reply (for example the hurricanes hadn't even happened yet.) Looking at it from Magg's side, the knee injury had to be one hell of a wake up call. Everyone hopes he heals and comes back but it had to teach him that a career can end in a heart beat. Without a guaranteed long term, he could go from his $14 mil per year to 0 out of baseball overnight, so he better do his very best for his family this time around. And I don't buy any of the pap about loyalty to the organization - the Sox pulled the offer off the table when he got hurt, and won't negotiate until they can examine him- how's that for loyalty. Same for a 'home town' discount. Why should a guy from Venezuela feel loyalty for an American city any more than a player from the States weighing offers from the Hanshin Tigers and the Kintetsu Buffaloes? There is no logic there. Finally, the article says KW still has not gotten the paperwork concerning the agent change (10/15), and I don't think the team can talk to him until it is filed. Very in character for Boras to hide his player and control all the conditions for the negotiation. I'm not surprised that Magg's will probably go, but I expected him to take the high road and say nice things before he signed somewhere else.
  14. well, you don't normally see a woman flashing at a baseball game on tv :headshake It was a pun Tmar. A person who is thought to be a fool is sometimes called a boob, and most ball parks have a strong population of them. Boob also has another meaning more directly related to the video. A play on words, you see.
  15. So whats the big deal about a boob in the stands?
  16. What would you think about Ryan Freel instead of Pierre. I'm not saying he is as good but he looks like he can lead off and steal bases. He plays everywhere and Cincy is so loaded with position guys coming up I don't think he's in their long term mix. I speculate you could get him for the 14th or 15th pitcher on your staff or about what they gave up for Temo. This guy can do a lot more then Temo.
  17. Here is the latest on Stub Hub for game 6. This section is behind the 3B dugout. Wow.
  18. The recriminations, blaming, crying and general angst coming out of New York is wonderful, isn't it?
  19. I hated to see Zhamnov go because he was the best all around player on the team, look how well he played for the Flyers. I grant you that the trade improved the bottom of the roster but not as much as it subtracted from the top line. If Rotoworld is right he is looking for 4-5 million to sign, or about the same as he made last year, so I don't see how they were 'forced' into a deal. I'm also a little miffed because he was my favorite player, my $100 sweater is now outdated. It's in the closet hanging next to my Chelios one.
  20. You are right again. Can somebody justify counting SF but not SH in this formula? From Baseball Reference: OBP - On-Base Percentage (H+BB+HBP)/(AB+BB+SF+HBP) Stats from BaseBall America:
  21. The loss of the two big right handed guns really hurt them. Borchard for Maggs and mostly Everett for Thomas. Quite a drop off.
