  1. What do you think Ozzie would do to this guy if he pulls a stunt like this on anyone in the Sox org? I'd buy a ticket to see it.
  2. QUOTE(C_LEE45 @ Jan 14, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) anybody have a link so we can listen? Here you go ESPN

From Bargain Bunkers I guess one of the tunnels is what blew, can't think of another area around there that could collect that much gas. I was down in the unfinished tunnel area about 6-7 years ago looking at renting warehouse space. It's got multiple levels with immense reinforced concrete pillars. The cielings are too low and the pillars are so large you can't bury them inside racking, so it was useless to us. Cheap though. I remember thinking if the commies ever dropped the bomb it would be a good place to be.
  4. Mr. Thomas is the only guy on this team going to the Hall of Fame.
  5. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) Seems like Levine is off since his mom died recently I believe...he seems distracted understandably so Its also vacation time. These guys 24/7 for 8 months from ST to the WS.

  7. Although I like to read the various sigs, I've turned them off for the reasons Chisoxfn listed. Even the most creative and funny ones get annoying when you need to scroll through them 10 -20 times in a thread. Is there a configuration where sigs would appear the first time a user posts in a thread but not repeat? Or something like that?
  8. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 07:28 PM) Maybe this idea of trading Bendavis makes sense. Davis is a LH batter correct? Pearskiwhacker is a LH batter Balance would seem to lean towards bringing a righty batter in as the backup. Maybe Burke again and Benny is traded. But, then again we have Carlos Lee right? Davis is a switch. 5 of his HR did come right handed.
  9. QUOTE(Mr. Showtime @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) I was reading the press release over on whitesox.com about this, and not once did they mention who would be doing the games. You think it would mention Hawk, since I'm sure he'll be doing some if not all of the games... Maybe we'll get Jiggets.
  10. Despite his million dollar contract I am not convinced Ben Davis can beat out Jamie Burke in ST. Davis has a rep as a good defensive catcher play caller but he did not look like anything special in the games I saw. Burke is much more versatile and, importantly is strong against LH pitching where AJ is weak. Davis is even weaker than A.J. in the very areas you want to cover up. I think a sub that can compliment the starter makes more sense than one who shares the same weaknesses. Here are the LH/RH BA splits from 2004. Burke .311/.356 Davis .172/.222 A.J. .221/.283 Jamie also came through in the clutch, ESPN's close and late split: Burke .333 Davis .143 A.J. .329 Davis has an undeniable edge on HRs, 6 to none, but I can see no other advantage to him.
  11. 10, count 'em 10! 7pm replays for we unfortunates with day jobs. We can actually see some of these young guys for ourselves. MLBSox.Com Link
  12. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jan 13, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Since the Sox are going from speed to power, can someone tell me who else besides Pods the White Sox have acquired this winter has any speed? Dye can't run anymore, AJ thinks Konerko can beat him in a race. Pods is the only guy, and he might not get on base very often. To characterize last year's team as a power team, and this year's as a speed team is a mistake IMHO, at least as the roster stands right now. The saying, speed doesn't go in slumps is usually correct, but if its only Pods, I can assure you speed will go into slumps. Very perceptive, but I think your expectations of a speed team are too high. The Sox had 78 SB last year. Add 70-8 for Pods-Lee and you get 140 which puts them 2nd in the league behind Anaheim's 143. Even with that single change they move near the top of the league. Milwaukee, with Pods, led the NL with 138. The Champion Marlins of 2003 had 150. The beloved GO-GO White Sox of the 1950's and 60's topped out at 153 in 1967, the '59 team had 113. If the Sox really do get 140 SB next year I think they can be called a speed team. If they get 140 SB and still get around 190 HR (242 last year) they can be called a good offensive team.
  13. I haven't seen an official transaction on Jamie Burke since he was designated for assignment last Friday. The waiver period has certainly expired and, not seeing a claim, I assume he got through, plus I did not see anything about him electing free agency. Yet, he's still all over the SoxFest schedule. Did I miss something? I don't think Ben Davis is necessarily a roster lock, despite his contract, unless he hits. Jamie's versatility in the field and ability against LHP is a hell of an asset; Davis could be moved.
  14. QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jan 12, 2005 -> 03:50 PM) Next to the Yankees and Red Sox, the Cubs have to draw the 3rd biggest crowds in MLB. They treat their ballpark renovations like a band-aid on an open wound, and they gouge their ticket prices to ridiculous proportions........and yet the people still buy them and sell out. They could've had Beltran and kept Sosa for one more year but I honestly don't think the Tribune wanted to pony up that type of cash. The Cubs organization clearly doesn't think too highly of their fans. The grubs were actually 6th in attendance behind the Jankees, Dodgers, Angels, Giants and Phillies. The RSox were 11th. I was at a plumbers bar last week and heard a new nickname for the Shrine, they call it the Green Latrine.
  15. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Why didn't the Sox do this? A minor league deal and also he'll probably be a good DH for them. I agree, he probably can't play defense anymore, but I think Juan Gone can still hit. Its a minor league deal that only amounts to money if he makes the team. I think he would be unlikely to beat out Frank Thomas or Carl Everett for a spot on the Sox. So he's smart to look over the rosters and go where he thinks he can stick with the big team.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 06:21 PM) He was drafted in '01 I wonder if he played college ball somewhere. I couldn't find any college stats. He might be the next Jim Breazeale!
  17. It might not be so bad an option for Maggs. If his knee is as bad as it sounds he could DH there. Unlike the grubs who don't have a dh, although they play one in RF, and the Orioles, who have Raphael Palmeiro, the Tigers could use him there. Last year they used mostly Dmitri Young and Rondell White, both of whom can be used in the field, and -while I like Dmitri- Maggs is a clear improvement over either of them. Detroit and Boras put language in Ivan Rodreguez' contract last year to protect the team if his back blew out. A similar agreement limiting the Tiger's risk of Magg's knee not coming back could make this pretty attractive to them.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) What do you mean? I am saying dugout dollars has been off before and the site i gave is extremely accurate. As is this site, but it is no longer updated. It is great for older contracts though. http://www.bluemanc.demon.co.uk/baseball/mlbcontracts.htm Sorry if it came our wrong, I just meant if Ray-Ray's dollars were different it would change my view of the possible trade. Bluemanc says 6.5 and player option 7.0, which doesn't alter my take that he's too rich for the Sox.
  19. QUOTE(qwerty @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 06:54 PM) Dugout dollars has been wrong numerous times. This site i have been going to for quite some time has never been wrong with a contract and breaks each contract down very well. http://www.mlb4u.com/sf.html Also, when was durham ever a good fielder? So Q, are Ray's dollars different? Please share it with us.
  20. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) I'm also curious about LaRussa. Does he normally appear at SoxFest? I read he's doing an autograph session for the benefit of his Animal Rescue Foundation. If anybody goes find out why he didn't bunt on Schilling, the Cards should have put him in the freaking hospital.
  21. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Wow, didn't realize this but he made 7.2 million last year. Anyways what would the sox have to give up to acquire Ray, I like the makeup of the team and unless the sox were giving up something like Willie and Adkins I wouldn't want to give up anything on the major league roster. Willies not old enough to play in San Fran
  22. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jan 8, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) It is being reported here in San Fran on KNBR that the Whitesox are very intersted acquiring Ray Durham from the Giants. Not to sure who the Giants are asking for in return... Dugout dollars has Ray-Ray at $6.78 million for 2005 and again in 2006. I doubt the Sox will take that on.
  23. QUOTE(hi8is @ Jan 7, 2005 -> 03:13 PM) does designated for assignment mean that he is going to go back to AAA with us or we just let him go peroid and he will no longer be in our org.? Baseball rules are complicated: Burke may have been designated because KW thinks he will get through waivers without being claimed. I don't have the energy but you'd need to look at all the MLB rosters and see who has an opening and needs catching, or has a back up catcher without a guaranteed contract who they don't like as good as Burke. If he gets through I expect him to be put on Charlotte's roster and be the 26th man this year.
