Robbie Alomar retires.
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 03:18 PM) Just seems kind of odd that he would suddenly retire when he is guaranteed $1.9 mill. It also seems kind of odd that he was never much of a hitter(as in the highest he'd ever hit at any point in his career prior to 1999 was perhaps the .282/.358/.412 in 170 ABs in for AAA Richmond in 97, or the .285/.340/.382 in 117 games, 424 AB's in 1993 with Detroit's AA team. And now, as a soon to be 32 year old, guaranteed $1.9 mill, coming off a good year, he just retires? If it's not for steroids, I'm sorry for this...but this screams steroids to me. Even if he was on steroids why would he retire? Its not like he had hall of fame potential and he didnt wanna ruin his chances.. so I dont think it would have been that big of a deal to get suspended even if he failed a test I just dont see why he would retire because of steroids, all he would be risking was suspension and a fine.. I dont think steroids would make his turn down near 2 million dollars

Chicago Bracket
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Mar 19, 2005 -> 07:01 PM) Milwaukee's win should bring warranted attention to the Horizon League. Although I hate Bruce Pearl, and more specifically their obnoxious fans, UWM has stood up against two quality teams. I dont know about that... Alabama and Boston College were both pretty bad going into the tourny.. they were playing bad basketball at the worst time.. I mean they are solid teams, but they were far from hot when Wisc-Mil played them Im not gonna take away from Wisc-Mil though they deserve credit for doing it two games in a row.. too bad the dream is over they are coming to Chicago, in a place where we rarely lose, and 3 upsets in a row seems like a longshot to me!!

Crosstown Rivals in ST
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 10:15 PM) Here's the box score. Guys like Calvin Murray, Cody Ransom, Ronny Cedeno, Angel Echevarria, and David Kelton were beating up on Garland today. I hope it was just a bad outing. I'm not as worried about El Duque because he has even said himself that he doesn't take Spring Training too seriously and is just out there to practice his pitches. So I guess you think Garland is out there trying to be like real game situation? Im pretty sure he was just working on the same things and again we won, so I dont see what it matters.. I dont care if he lets the bases get loaded and get out of it.. key phrase is he got out of it.. spring training doesnt matter, Garland is the man

Crosstown Rivals in ST
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) Because he was looking horrible against minor leaguers that won't even be on the Cubs opening day roster. Garland gave up 3 runs in the 6th inning and then gave up another run in the 9th before getting out of a jam that he himself created. It was a very poor outing considering he wasn't even facing major league talent. So you, in turn, think Garland is going to have a "huge year" based on that kind of outing? im just gonna use the excuse everyone else uses when one of their favorite pitchers struggles.. they dont care about getting hit around they are just working on throwing their pitches.. and anyways Garland is a lock for 12+ wins and an ERA in the 4's so im saying he breaks out this year and has a huge year.. I like him, you dont have to.. so why dont you just look past my post instead of trying to "convince" me otherwise

BMI talk from Congressional hearings thread
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) I just took this life expectancy test, and found out I had a BMI of 14.68 which was too thin (of course) , and that I would live to 71.7 years. http://www.agingresearch.org/calculator/quiz.cfm My life expectancy was 76.3 and this is what it told me about my BMI "Significantly overweight, meaning you are at significant risk for obesity-related illnesses such as heart disease, high blood pressure, stroke, diabetes and cancer."

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 12:32 PM) I'm not bragging here, cuz I'm just plain lucky genetically. I'm the guy everyone hates. Eat whatever I want, thin as a rail. 6'1", 180 lbs, 32 inch waist. In fact, I have to eat a LOT, drink protein shakes and work out just to build mass so that I don't wither away. I think if I didn't, in 2 months I'd be down to like 140 lbs. :puke Maybe I should juice.......... trying to get us back on track. Im like that too... im 6'1 210 and my waist is 34 but when I do a BMI test it says that I am obese because of the fact it doesnt take in account muscle or stuff like that, so its not the best tool

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 18, 2005 -> 07:22 PM) I can tell you didn't see the game. Garland pitched horribly today, even though he got out the mess he created in the 9th. whats your point? He got out of it and we won.. hes gonna have a huge year

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:46 PM) Yea.. myself. I got a BMI analysis done reciently and from it, and it claims for my height and weight I should have a BMI in the 18 to 20 range....?? BMI also has to do with your build.. My BMI says im "obese" but it doesnt take in account muscle or anything like that, so it can be a little off

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) I'm getting pulled into a never-ending discussion on the dangers of roid usage with someone who believes that their personal experience is the only source of knowledge they need on anything in life. :rolly It's time for me to exit this thread. I just wanted to say one more thing with respect to Fehr. He doesn't really represent the players but rather their agents. That's why the MLBPA is such a powerful union. All of the players today are represented by the very best minds the legal sports agent world has to offer. You have to sell the zero-tolerance policy to them. That's a very tough sale. I guess your right... real life experiance is trumped by google... my bad for being wrong I would love to stay and finish this up but I have to go to Jillians because damn Texas Tech is on down here and I want to watch Illinois.. goodnight soxtalk

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) But you're saying that all medical studies about steroids are utterly useless. So why aren't all medical studies utterly useless, since they use similar methods? Btw, since no reputable doctor would prescribe steroids for a healthy athlete, technically ANY such use constitutes abuse. Most medical studies are about effects of steroid abuse, the effects of taking them long and hard and over doing it.. People who are addicted to steroids like that will hurt themselves and others.. Thats what I was saying along the lines of abuse

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:17 PM) On subjects like this...I cannot agree to disagree. But I will stop responding to him on this subject, because it has no effect. I'm cool. Good decision.. because nothing your gonna say is going to change my mind about steroids.. Especially after life experiances with them, I can tell you that they are put way out of context then they really are..

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) You have a right to your opinion, but do you really expect me to believe you when you say that all doctors and medical evidence are total crap? Maybe the mumps are great too, I've never had 'em, after all. Nah im not trying to say all doctors are wrong what im saying is they are talking bout straight ABUSE of steroids which is making it seem like its poison, but thats not the case..

QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) I've never taking opium either but there is a mountain of information that tells me it's pretty bad for me & the risk of addiction is very high. Of course the fact that I can describe it's chemical breakdown & most aspects of its impact on the human body, it's history, & it's current growth span today I guess is meaningless because I've never tried it :rolly You are taking yourself seriously so I'll just ask some questions to maybe get you to pause & think differently. Why would my personal experience with say smoking weed have greater value than clincal research covering say 10's of 1000's of persons smoking weed? In the same likeness why would your personal experience with performance enhancers have greater value than 10's of 1000's of others accounts. The best knowledge is collective knowledge because it filters out biased opinion. That's why the internet is the best tool mankind has ever invented. I dont Smoke Weed or take Opium so I wouldnt be able to tell you about all that, and of course its ETCHED into everyones heads that its bad for you from the media.. a lot of things are..

QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) The acne part was a joke. What were the gains and the level and the length of use that will determine the abuse? If the gains were less than a 40% gain in the 1 time max rep than it wouldn't be sufficient to make a difference on an athletic field. You will not see the side effect for at 8-10 cycles. If he has been using it for less than that ( if its an oil based steriod) he won't have them yet. Steriods make the person feel good in the short term. It's the effect it has on the body long term that is the problem. Juggernaut - I am educated in it, I dont need to check out google.. Ive seen it in real life experiances and I know about it. You get all your s*** from google. Finding something scanning it then saying you know it doesnt mean you know it.. ptatc - My friend did a small cycle and gained 17 lbs, and went from benching 225 9 times to benching 225 15 times

QUOTE(ptatc @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:47 PM) The only way to get the radical gains in performance is to abuse them. If you use them at low dosage, you only get marginal improvements in performance and a real bad case of acne. not true my friend has made huge gains on bench press, without abusing, and without getting acne

QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) No harm. I don't agree with you, based on my personal experience, but you're entitled to your opinion. I truly hope that you, and your friends that use them, never have the displeasure of seeing the negatives and destruction of them. I have never actually injected steroids.. my friends have, but I have taken other illegal substances in pill form havent ever had a problem

Good luck in life young person. :rolly haha, you give me your "numbers" but yet you have no experiance with this what so ever.. You sit there and tell me "good luck in life" like im pulling s*** out of my ass or im like some 15 year old who is clueless.. I have friends that have used steroids, I have used illegal substances and if you abuse it you will get in trouble.. but like I said.. if you have never taken it you dont know what your talking about, simply put you can show me all the anti steroid articles you want, doesnt mean I dont know what Im talking about
