  1. QUOTE (whitesox901 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Reed has gotten the job done, but there has been a lot of nail bitters. The young pen overall has been that way too it seems. Almost like they are rookies.
  2. Edwin Jackson was fantastic for us.
  3. Reed in save situations .566 OPS against 2.50 ERA He also has an ERA of 0.50 against teams over .500 - random.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 14, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Penpals I hate to agree with Row, but this is probably the best option.
  5. Ha, it's not normally expensive in Ames anyways, but my favorite beer is a free one.
  6. It's great knowing a bartender. Getting drunk for free (+ tips of course) is pretty awesome.
  7. It's only fair to credit Kevin Youkilis on this too.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) Those teams might have the 3rd/4th best chances behind Duke and MSU They just seem so out of place on that list.

QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 10:33 AM) That looks like it would be a great addition to a White Sox historical library. I'll do a bit more reading on the history first, so as to have a greater appreciation of the photos if I invest in that in the future. I just ordered this today: When Chicago Ruled Baseball. It looks like it should be a good read and I'm hoping that, as well as giving an insight into the actual sporting encounter, it will situate the narrative within the social context of the time - life for the team, the city and the fans. I'm also looking at two books from Richard Lindberg. One is 'Total White Sox', from 2011, and the other is the much older 'Stealing First in a Two-Team Town: The White Sox from Comiskey to Reinsdorf', from 1994. Whilst the newer book is more up to date, I'm just wondering is it more of a straightforward compendium of sporting records of the "the Sox played such a team and this was the result, and then they went on to play that team" type. Does it give much time to discussion and debate of the team's and supporters' experience, identity and place in society? I may be wrong, but I get the impression that the older book would take the latter approach more, but obviously the drawback is that it was published in 1994. Anyone who has read these have any thoughts on the matter? Hope I'm not being an annoying new guy with all these queries. Far from it. That's why this place exists.
  10. It'd be nice if Jake got a batter, being as there is no way the AL comes back.
  11. Just a reminder that NCAA 13 is just $45 on Amazon.
  12. I'll just cheer for a HBP and some wild pitch offense.
  13. Tying run at the plate. Run into one, Tank.
  14. As pissed as I've seen Robin.
  15. Our relievers have sucked today, but so has the umpire.
  16. "Reyburn was umpiring in the Dominican League in 2009-2010 when he became the center of media attention on January 16. He ejected Licey Tigers catcher Ronny Paulino for arguing balls and strikes, then was attacked by Licey manager José Offerman. Offerman had to be removed by the police and was banned for life from the Dominican League for the assault."
  17. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:33 PM) If/when Adam reaches, gotta expect EE to pinch run. That was silly.
