For those who have asked “But who should have Getz targeted?” while I’ve continued to criticize his lack of ambition in seeking a second starting pitcher at the deadline: I’ve answered this before. Foster Griffin has been my response. Nobody can argue that we wouldn’t have been capable of beating the crap package the Indians set out to Washington for him. He may end up being the difference in the AL Central title this year.

Since they’ve expressed plans to have him get time in the outfield down on the farm and continuing into AFL play, I doubt we see him called up this year.

They’ve already told us in a matter of other words that they’re not calling him up this season and Getz already told us at the deadline that he isn’t serious about winning the division.

Too early to tell. I need more insight into how the starting rotation shakes out in the next 10 days and to see how they fair in the continuing SWEEP THE CENTRAL campaign. If the rotation starts to stabilize and they perform well in the upcoming 6 games against Minny, all signs will point to YES. If they do not see life in the rotation and fall to the Twinkies… all signs will flash NO. Though, I could still see a middle ground where this division is decided in the final week with shades of 2005 coming into play. Bottom line: GO SOX!

That’s my hope - contingent on Thorpe having at least a quality start today in Charlotte. His start down on the farm tonight is just as important as Kay shoving for us and our lineup starting to mash again. Hoping for two wins today. One in Chicago and one for the Knights!

Torrens and Acuna should both be starting for us here down the stretch. That solution is plain as day. Billy Beane would have seen it from a mile away and why Getz didn’t take this course of action should be a fireable offense.

That’s a great analogy. 😆 I could see a miracle 1% version where everything clicks but the most likely outcome is them getting 2020ed in 3.

Question answered as far as I’m concerned. Pitching Options: Shane Smith Jose Urquidy Drew Thorpe Thorpe is really our only hope remaining IMO for the time being.

Colson is one of the strangest young dudes I’ve seen. He is either on point and dangerous or is an automatic strikeout that looks like a shell. And it seems like he is really fragile in falling back into the “lost” category even when he finds it. Recent example: He clicked and for a 7 game stretch was hitting something like .330 / .385 / .560 and then BAM - after one at bat he seemed to completely lose all confidence in himself and his approach. I do think that the offense is feeling the weight of the team only having basically two reliable starters. It’s taxing not only the pen but also our hitters. Think of it - imagine knowing that to win 3 of 5 games, you’ll have to likely score 7+ runs and are likely to need to come from behind multiple times each game. There’s enough pressure as it is for a young club contending down the stretch as it is - add in a factor like this and I can see why they may be choking in big RISP spots. This is another reason why I think it is vital that they get the rotation stabilized during this upcoming stretch because in doing so, I think it will help ease the pressure on the rest of the team as a whole. It’s also why I’m pissed at Getz for not getting us another SP.

Pretty simple scouting report: “Don’t swing.” Just gotta take care of business the next two games with Kay and Burke while hoping the Halos can bring one down. Then operation SWEEP THE CENTRAL resumes. We really need to get our rotation straightened out because it’s embarrassing to coin toss at best having a chance to be competitive in 3 of every 5 games. They should be rolling with Kay / Burke / Castillo / Fedde / Thorpe for the next five to see if that gives us more stability. Then next time through, depending on results, they’ll have to plug Martin in for Castillo or Thorpe. Getting the rotation back in order will be the key factor in if they’re able to complete the mission at hand and will also tell us if they’ll even be an actual threat in the playoffs or not. Of course, if good ol Getzy had gotten another starter - we wouldn’t be up against a wall with such limited options. Oh well… onward we go!

Take the next two and win the series again. Feel a lot better about Kay and Burke going. Would be nice to see some life from the guys who are slumping. Also hope that Thorpe aces 6 IP tomorrow. Above all: SWEEP THE CENTRAL remains the focus! 💪🏼🧦⚾️🔥
