White Sox acquiring Joey Bart from ATL
My best friend is a die hard Giants fan as much as we all are Sox fiends… He said we’ll love Bart and that he initially had issues transitioning to a one legged setup behind the dish that lead to him allowing a lot of passed balls / poor blocking. He’s since tightened that up and now blocking is one of his strengths. He also said pitchers did indeed prefer throwing to him. He’s also slightly above average in controlling the running game. The main knock was his pitch framing which with ABS i personally don’t think has as much value. If I recall - his bat had been showing signs of life before the trade as well.

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
We don’t agree. Who cares. I’ll root for him and believe we picked him up for a reason and you’ll s%*# all over the place cherry picking just as much as I am. I’ve officially begun the O-Doyle Rules fan club. Maybe one day you’ll eat crow and join. If not, oh well - they took a calculated risk and didn’t hit. End of story.

Chi Sox @ Bo Sox 6:10 First Pitch
I’m kind of surprised they’re throwing Doyle right into the fire. Him and Miggy are going to be in the same hitting group in the cage. That kid is going to learn a lot from Miggy. I’m not expecting much from him for the first couple of weeks but he really could be a sneaky good pickup.

Robbie Ray to Padres
Wow - that’s wild then. Ray wasn’t someone I really thought fit well with our ballpark - so I’m not upset. It also seems to me that the Sox decided that rather than needing two starting pitchers, they trust what they’ve seen from Schultz and Thorpe. Here’s to hoping they were right.

That “theory” is reality and you’re right on the money IMO.

I want to see his hands starting higher and lifting and pulling. 💪🏼

Boston - oddly enough - has better road splits. They’ve been playing to a sub .500 clip at home. Obviously they’ve been the hotest team in the universe but hopefully we play them better than when they were in Chicago kicking out ass. I want a sweep of our own here as another statement and as some redemption!

Sox acquire Brenton Doyle - trade Adams and Carlos Vielma (SS)
In 2025 July that year he hit .327 and in August he hit 7 home runs and .319. I’d say he was figuring it out and putting the loss of his son past him. You’re including his stats from this year when he was playing through injury and are omitting what he did in AAA. It’s obvious that he has had his struggles and I’ve illustrated those specifically in previous posts. They are similar things Vargas dealt with ( raising his hands, lift and pull, better swing decisions )… There’s reasons for confidence because he showed capable of doing that in 2024. I think it’s completely legitimate that a personal tragedy and pressing last year explains initial struggles… and his injuries this year are behind him. He’s the exact profile of player that should benefit from Fuller and his gold glove defense from 23 to 25 was the best in baseball by some metrics. If you can’t see the reasons for optimism and understand why they took this risk and only want to focus on what he did wrong for a period of time, then you must have had a hard on for Mason Adams that’s blinding you or something. 😆 It’s not a sure thing slam dunk but there are many reasons that you should understand what they’re going for here.

Rockies fan insight: “Fellow rox fan here to echo the same as the above. Doyle is one of the best defenders in the game. He had the hardest throw in the stats cast era and is flat out amazing. The hitting can use some work (problems due to the prior rockies regime, IMO). His WAR from last year is a tale of two players. His wife had a miscarriage and he didn't recover from that prior to the all star break. He was negative WAR before the all star break then crushed it in the second half of the season to finish at above average WAR. Details below: https://www.purplerow.com/colorado-rockies-roster/77181/colorado-rockies-player-review-brenton-doyle-overcame-a-miserable-first-half-to-finish-with-a-positive-impact I agree that this seems to be a win win on paper. You'll get a center fielder who is basically a walking defensive highlights reel. If you can solve the offense (probably on the off season), you've probably robbed us blind. For what it's worth, the Rockies need pitchers for next year and a 4/5, starter who's control based with lots of pitches seems to be our go to. All the best to doyle and I hope he crushes it for the white Sox!” I’m more hopeful than the “probably in the off season” part.

Guardians get Foster Griffin
Listen to the Sox machine podcast again - you must have misheard. “Following the acquisition of Luis Castillo, Fegan highlighted that rather than chasing expensive external leverage relief, the White Sox view Smith and McDougal in Triple-A as internal bullpen solutions to bolster their relief corps.”

Not sure if this was already posted but it’s encouraging:

Another poster shared similar sentiment from a Rockies forum post in this thread, calling Doyle “a dog”. Seems taylor made for Schrif cheese too… “O-DOYLE RULES!!!”

I really think this is a prototypical Fuller / Getz guy. After his breakout year in 2024, he lowered his hands some and tried to hit for a higher average by sacrificing some launch angle. In his rehab stint he expressed his frustration with changing what had been working, likening it to being “on a hamster wheel”. Fuller will likely bring his hands back up ( like he did with Vargas ), work to improve his bat speed, and encourage him to do more focused damage in the zone with a launch angle that maximizes SLG for some AVG. If they platoon him with Peters I’m guessing he gets about 150 - 180 at bats and we will see something like .260 / .325 / .460. Somewhere in the 10 bombs range with 15 stolen bases and good glove defense. If Peters can’t break out of his slump and adjust to the league, we also brought in an insurance policy here. Best case scenario is we get him back on track and got a 3 - 4 WAR centerfielder for the next three years. When I first took a look at his numbers, I was confused and pissed… but the more I have learned about this kid - I completely get it and really think that this will be a move that a lot of people applaud with surprise.

I hope Doyle fucking mashed and flashes leather like no tomorrow just so that everyone upset will have to make a 180 on him. Will eat crow if I’m wrong on this one but I dig it. Just wish we would have got fucking Foster Griffin at the last minute. Really think he may end up being a major difference in the Central.

White Sox acquiring Joey Bart from ATL
Friend of mine is a huge Giants fan and he was pissed when San Fran gave up on Bart. He said that he was starting to figure it out in flashes. Maybe Bart will surprise us. He literally can not be worse than what we’ve had so far. 😆

Are you sure? In that interview I thought I heard him saying it WAS a possibility.

I think many here are discounting the potential here. They may be right and he may be a lost cause… but I will not be surprised one bit if this ends up being Miguel Vargas v2 in centerfield. Time will tell and we’ll see in time. Until then, see ya’ll tomorrow. Wish they would have gotten Foster Griffin but… oh well. May we mightily kick his ass and I be proven wrong once more.

Everson Pereira DFA'd
That is a certainty.

Mason Adams isn’t our best pitching prospect and I think we are going to be pleasantly surprised by Doyle.

I at least have to find solace in a belief that Getz drove up the price here on the Indians and forced them to give up more than they wanted. Still think we could have offered a quality over quantity deal that the Nats would have taken… and I would have slotted Forest right at the top with Burke. Really would have felt like walking on sunshine if we had Burke / Griffin / Martin / Kay / Castillo / Schultz as our starting rotation options. Maybe what the Sox have been seeing out of Noah lead them to believe that he is starting to become trustworthy as that number 2 type guy. And maybe they also plan to move Hagen Smith / McDougal up to further strengthen the pen.
