Still think we are shooting for Stephenson and Holmes. The Yankmes are likely in the way with Stephenson and who knows who were up against with Holmes. Seems like there may be some new SP options opening up as well as some teams are deciding to sell.

This is simply not true. Tell me the last time Romo hit 23 bombs, stole 30 bases, and gave you 70 RBI while providing gold glove defense. Yes, he regressed last year and has sucked this season but he has been hurt… and his advanced metrics are flashing the same problems that Miggy had before we turned him into a monster. After taking some time to dig into this initial head scratcher, I fully get it.

He pitched well in his most recent starts in Cleveland and in Detroit - both times going 6 and giving up only 1 ER.

Another way to think on Doyle is look at Peters lack of offensive production - we’re still winning with that absent production. Perhaps we gain some offense at catcher while we also start working towards a Vargas like turn around with Doyle. A lot of the problems Vargas had before breaking out mirror the issues Doyle has had over the last year and a half… and he also has been hurt. Just returned Friday so the health issue is no longer a concern, apparently. It’s either a sneaky move or it fails.

Since Doyle has options, I don’t think it’s a sure thing he starts with the big league club. Anything is possible aside from there NOT being more moves. I still think we get a starting pitcher with frontline potential and a catcher.

I think that Fuller and Co have earned leeway with us whereas they can help a guy like this get back on track. Could be a sneaky good move where a lot of folks who aren’t looking at it this way are shocked if he becomes a fixture in centerfield.

Same here… but before today I didn’t even know Brenton Doyle’s name. Looks like they must believe they can get him back to putting the ball in the air ( this year he’s hitting almost 60% of his balls on the ground when he was almost a 30/30 guy he was closer to 40% ) and they must also believe that his oblique is what killed his defense. They might be thinking they are buying low on a potential gold glove centerfielder controlled through 29 that they feel they can get 20+ homers and 20+ steals from.
