  1. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 09:15 PM) At least he struck at swinging instead of striking out looking.... I think he did strike out looking on the 3rd pitch... absolute filth
  2. Felix looks filthy... Going to need MB to have his "A" stuff tonight.
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Whatever they say he's throwing at in Charlotte, I'm subtracting 5 MPH. The only guy I can remember who threw as hard as we were led to believe when he was called up was Jenks. I thought Poreda lived up to his velocity billing
  4. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:39 PM) I have to say I really enjoyed watching power pitcher Freddy back when he hit 94 consistently and overpowered hitters. Junk ball Freddy, not so much. +1
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 05:34 PM) I can't imagine someone throwing 86 striking out as many guys as Freddy did this past outing. Hopefully he's healthy. At 33 he's still young enough to succeed and we all know he's got plus breaking stuff. Its just a matter of having enough velocity to keep hitters honest. Freddy was considered done by many...and probably still should be. I'd be thrilled if he could make an impact on our big league ball club this year...but don't count on it. I remember towards the end when his fastball sat at 85...completely ruining his off-speed pitches because they were at that same speed. Lets not forget that Fred is one of the worst pitchers we'll ever see at holding runners. I hate to be critical of Fred as he's one of my all-time favorite players...was before he joined the WSox, but we have to be realistic with where Fred is in his career.
  6. QUOTE (VAfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) Not sure if this is the proper place for this post -- please move it if necessary -- but I found the discussion interesting. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/white-sox-stea-rios It was posted last night...but probably deserving of its own thread.
  7. You can put it on the board
  8. Wojciechowski is just preaching to the choir...but can he really be surprised about anyone juicing at this point? As far as saying "oh if Jeter juiced then I'm done"...that's just stupid.
  9. QUOTE (Requiem Schmuquiem @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Buerhle is a very good #2, has never been a dominant elite-ace. He's an ace.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I wonder if he'll hit enough. He might be one of those guys that got insanely hyped but just doesn't end up hitting enough to stick. Kind of like a Pokey Reese or Cesar Itzuris (so to speak). I'd have traded him while the value was high. He has a very nice set of tools though. I think they held onto him because he has such a great glove. If you look at all the Brewers prospects...you'll read somewhere in the scouting report "his bat can carry the position"...as in you may have to hide him somewhere on defense because he can't pick a ball up. I think he'll hit for a high average while carrying a low OBP. His speed/SB numbers suggest he'll steal a lot of bases as well. He could be a gold-glove, base-stealing lead-off man for the Brewers down the line...which is what they need as much as anything other than any type of pitching.
  11. As a resident in the Madison area...the Crew are kind of like my 2nd team. I look forward to watching Escobar.
  12. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) Haven't heard anything about Thome complaining and I'd be surprised if he did so publicly. Dye said a couple of things and I think that KW gave the appropriate response. He's basically saying don't forget who you work for. You work for me so you need to worry about making me happy, not the other way around. IMHO...I think the Rios claim was great news for Thome if his preference was to return to the South Side next season. With us committing to Rios...our need for a LH bat becomes that much more obvious going into next year.
  13. We're not here to feathers ruffle...
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Fangraphs thinks it's a steal for us. "White Sox center fielders have been the definition of replacement level with their combined .269 wOBA, so Rios probably adds a full win to the White Sox down the stretch, increasing their odds of making the playoffs while not costing them a prospect. The South Siders have roughly $35 million coming off the books this fall, so Williams has done his holiday shopping early with the additions of Peavy and Rios, while helping his chances now. There’s some gambling going on here taking on these large contracts, but Rios is a much safer bet than Peavy. " http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/white-sox-stea-rios Great article...it confirmed my initial thoughts of picking up Rios. Thanks!
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 12:20 AM) uh, whaaaaa? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad3Hzsy1-20
  16. I'll jump on the Contreras for Loazia trade. You could look back at any of the moves made in '04 and prior to '05 and put a big star next to them...but this move took guts. Contreras looksed to be a bust in the Majors and Loazia, while struggling, wasn't far removed from a near Cy Young season. Contreras came to Chicago and really adjusted well, giving us a 4 man rotation going into the '04 off-season with MB, Fred, Contreras and Garland. I felt that move has been overlooked in Kenny's tenure as Contreras was as responsible as any player that year in winning the World Series.
  17. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:25 PM) I fixed it so it would look less confusing. Quite Frankly, that lineup would be everything but a debacle. Hahahah...quite frankly
  18. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 11:53 PM) How often did you hear former players say things like this about the Sox back in the '90s? Kenny and Ozzie have turned them into a completely different franchise. Give JR credit, too. He gets it as an owner.
  19. Big start from Danks tonight... BP has just been getting worked lately
  20. YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHERE'S MY MIND? I'VE LOST IT!!!!
  21. I'll go ahead and throw this out there... Pods isn't brought back...we look at Lex to be our leadoff hitter next year...
  22. He looks warn down IMO. I think he'll get it going again, but JD has given everything he's had to us since he's been here.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) The walk ups were for $9 tickets. They have been sitting on money. Agreed. The walk-ups are extremely encouraging in anticipation of an attendance spike for the rest of this season, though.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 08:45 PM) Whatever KW says, I think the truth is they had some money to play with. They weren't at their budget at the beginning of the season, perhaps anticipating moves like this, and for everyone who thinks I think Rios blows, I don't and I hope he hits .400 with 80 homers. +1
