  1. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 11, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Yeah, because the Yankees wouldn't mind swapping Lowell for ARod with ARod going to Boston. Just that comment with your avatar makes me think that Stewie actually said that. As if the sarcastic jolt wasn't funny enough.
  2. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) Actually, I just noted that Mike Lowell would be signed by the Yankees the instant AROD opts out. The green monster has been kind to Lowell in Boston. If you've ever been to Yankee Stadium, you'd already know that it's extremely tough on right handed pull hitters. LF is way deeper than advertised. I could easily see Lowell falling on his face big time at Yankee Stadium.
  3. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) Reminds me a lot of Kevin Brown. If he can keep that pitch down in the zone rather than elevating it like he did against the Indians, he's a stopper, because it's almost impossible to hit it hard. Did you just compare Wang to Kevin Brown? No way in hell.
  4. QUOTE(YASNY @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) Considering that they won the division by one game, it's not a stretch at all to say the Phils would have fallen short had they not acquired Iguchi. I loved that commercial with Gooch in it, "Don't act like a star...play like one." Good old Goocher. It was a pleasure having him in Chicago.
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 13, 2007 -> 02:37 PM) They looked fine offensively to me; it looked more like they need a manager with a clue. The Crew lacked consistency. They were a lot like we were a few years ago when Manuel was here. Just get on base and eventually someone will hit a bomb. We'd end up scoring 10 or 12 runs one day and then 1 or 2 runs the next day. That was a lot of what the Brewers were like this past year in the fact that they could never consistently manufacture anything. As far as Yost goes....yeah I agree. I would've fired him, but I think management felt the downfall was their youth, bullpen collapse and horrible defense.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Speaking of Joe, any details on how his rehab is going? He was well ahead of schedule as of a month ago.
  7. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 06:45 PM) No he can not. I agree that Crede couldn't put up the numbers that Burrell would offensively, but so what? Burrell is overhyped and overpaid. Since his coming out season in '02, he's only hit .250. He strikes out once every 3.5 ABs. That ballpark he plays in is a joke and it has impacted his numbers. The past three years since that park opened- Burrell as hit .284 at home and a woeful .248 on the road. I'd rather roll the dice with Crede at 3rd next year with Fields in Left. Don't waste 6-7 million and stay the hell away from Burrell.
  8. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 12, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Really? Based on his AAA stats, he looks like a worse Jerry Owens. I tend to doubt they are looking to get him into CF next year. Defensively, Gwynn is far and away their best option in Center. With all of the fire power that the Crew already has...they can live with him struggling at the plate. Besides, Gwynn can bunt, steal bases and play the small ball that the Brewers need desperately. I think Gwynn struggled in AAA because he was up and down so much during the year and never really got comfortable.
  9. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 22, 2007 -> 08:23 AM) I'd love Bill Hall. So would I. I think it's a matter of our scouts being confident enough in being able to project Hall to have success against AL Central Pitching. He's seen the AL Central in interleague play and hit .277, 15 XBH, 14:30 BB/K ratio in 126 ABs/36 Games. So in limited action his numbers aren't bad at all. Billy is better than advertised at Short, too. Great range with a cannon for an arm. He really wouldn't be that big of a drop off from Uribe defensively if at all. At 6 mil/season for the next three years? What's not to like? Ned Yost has recently come out and said that Hall is still #1 in line for CF, which I think is just trying to up the ante in seeing what they could get for Billy. Everyone on the planet knows they want to put Gwynn Jr out in Center next year. With the way Billy just DOES NOT fit in anywhere in Milwaukee at all...I think we could steal Hall. The Brewers would probably do a Broadway or Egbert deal with another minor leaguer or two for Hall.
  10. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) HAHAHAHAHA. Its amazing the uproar in the other thread about KW trading Chris Young, but people think its a great idea to deal Josh Fields? Ridiculous. Agreed. Maybe I'm the only one...but I don't think CY will amount to much. Even if you do believe CY will bust out to All-Star caliber...we did get Javy. Javy is a boarderline ace or top tier #2 at 12 mil/year. Hell with Javy's stuff, if we gave him any kind of defense/run support/bullpen regularity (as in an ERA below 10), Javy could compete for 20 wins next year. We should stick with Fields and Danks. They're still prospects IMO with bright futures. We're going to need at least one of them to pull through in a big way for us. I believe it's more than likely that one will.
  11. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 09:32 AM) Miguel Cabrera is one of the most talented offensive players this game will ever see.....but there's no way the Sox should give up the farm for him. He's going to eat his way to becoming a DH, his attitude is just awful, and he's going to get the 2nd biggest contract in the history of baseball. Miggy Cabrera is a player you can build a franchise around. However, with what the WSox would have after trading for Miggy...they'd have nothing to put around him. I don't think Fields/Danks would land Miggy. As soon as Miggy is on the block, The ARod-less Yankees would look to move in on the Marlins. Hell even the BoSox would probably throw their hat in the rink. With the kind of prospects/dollars that the Yankees/Red Sox would have to offer for Miggy...I don't believe the Marlins would even field our calls. We need to rebuild the farm. We should've already started the rebuilding process by (I really hate saying this) dealing MB to Boston for a slew of prospects (Ellsbury, Bowden, Bard and probably another player). Then we should've given Dye away for 3 Grade B prospects. The reason I would've wanted us to have dealt Dye for something like that is because one of those Grade B prospects would probably crack our top 10 prospects! KW had a great chance to rebuild and he chose not to. He better make the right moves and win a lot of games next year or it could cost our future more than we ever thought possible.
  12. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) Don't try and steal my nickame Welcome to the board and I think you are right with your opinion of the trade Unless we were clearing salary to throw money at A-Rod....*drooling*.... Quick! Someone get me a towel...
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 01:24 PM) Stop for a second... We are supposed to believe the Kenny Williams is going to go after a Scott Boras client who just hit .222 and is asking for 7 years and $140 million? One who has been yanked from games for being lazy and alouf? Sorry with guys like Rowand, Cameron, and Hunter out there, plus a guy from Japan that might be interested in Chicago, I just don't buy it. To me it sounds like Boras trying get some bidders. That sums it up right there.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 12:40 PM) It's the second time I've seen Andruw associated with the White Sox this week. I believe it was the Inside Dish on yahoo.com that speculated the Sox would possibly land him. Oh I hope not. We wouldn't be getting the Gold Glover that Jones' people will try to sell you. I've been to 6 Brewer/Brave games in Milwaukee the past two season and let me tell you...Jones is a tank. His defense is almost average out there. Now could he blow up and hit 40 bombs at the Cell? Probably. But I for the kind of money it'll take to land him...I'd rather have a CF that'll take hits away.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 02:14 PM) Mark Teixeira does. LOL, well Tex is an exceptional hitter...but even that is no comparison as far as swing style goes. I've never seen a guy strike out on a ball in the dirt while his legs are still straight. It baffles me.
  16. QUOTE(max power @ Oct 5, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) Noodle arm, no power, not reliable enough to be a lead off hitter which we need. He could be a pretty decent player when all is said and done but I want him as my starting CF when options like rowand and hunter are the alternatives but I'd rather have him than pods or grinder. I really hope we go another direction away from Owens. I've never seen a hitter NEVER bend his legs when he swings. He just has such an inability to spoil a low off-speed pitch that fooled him. However, I won't lose my mind if the WSox decide to keep him in Center. At least he's the type of player that Ozzie wants and I don't hate that. I really feel like the more Ozzie Type guys we have, the better we'll be.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2007 -> 01:50 PM) welcome to SOXTALK :headbang Thanks!
  18. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Oct 9, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) I was listening to Boers & Bernstein at 4:30 today, and Boers said that this deal is being discussed by the Angels and Sox: Konerko and Garland for Figgins, Kochman and Shields. FWIW. Hi, everyone. This is my first post on this board and I look forward to posting here daily for years to come with all of you. I'd have to say this deal wouldn't make sense at all. Mainly because the re-signings of MB and Dye have shown that we're not about to just cut payroll, which is exactly what a deal like this would be trying to do. I saw Shields pitch 5 or 6 times this year and he's clearly in decline. I'd rather just get some lightning rod arms and throw them in the pen for cheap rather than on overpriced middle reliever that's on his way down.
