QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) That is no slam at all; I actually find Roberts to be more valuable, being a 2Bman and all. You underrate Roberts and overrate Crawford. Just compare them, please. Didn't realize Roberts stole 50 bases last year. Roberts also has a much better BB/K ratio than does Crawman. However, Crawford is 4 years younger than is Roberts and IMO a much much higher ceiling.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) Fields does not come close to Evan Longoria at 3B. Longoria is an absolute stud. The D-Rays would not be interested in Fields unless they could move him to some other team for something they want. Agreed. I missed the bus and forgot about Longoria.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) Just as a complete hypothetical, would you give up Josh Fields for Brian Roberts? What a slam on Crawford. Uncalled for, sir.
  4. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) Not even close. What use do they have for Fields? They have plenty of outfielders and their future third baseman is Longoria. Gio + Danks would be the starting offer and I doubt that gets it done. Maybe DLS + Danks + Gio. Or, since they can't seem to find good relievers, Jenks + Danks/Gio. Ah, I forgot all about Longoria. Chalk that one up as my bad. However I don't think it'll take ALL of our best pitching prospects to land him. As far as trading Jenks? That'd only make our bullpen the worst in league history.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:02 PM) The White Sox lose their best young hitter, and the Rays don't need any more bats. You don't trade Fields unless you get a superstar type player (or close to superstar); Carl Crawford is not a superstar. Thank you for your elaboration. I agree with the first part, but totally disagree with the second part.
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) Why, they have enough position players that rated as high if not higher than Fields. Pitching is what they need. I guess I'm alone on that trade opinion. As several people have quickly called me on it already. However, Fields bat ranks above any of their prospects and that Guzman will be a SS rather than a 3Bagger IMO.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:59 AM) That type of package makes little sense for both teams. Why?

QUOTE(scenario @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) Nah. Tampa already has more quality 3B prospects than any team in MLB. In fact, they have too many. Not likely they're going to move their most tradeable asset to get another one. They've got other needs. I thought about that as well and that could very well be the case. However, I feel Fields would rank above any of those players at 3B. If they didn't agree, Fields would be a LF candidate to replace Crawman as well.
  9. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 09:58 AM) Levine is reporting that both the Sox and Cubs have talked to the D-Rays about Crawford some time in the past few days and talks will continue during the GM Meetings. I sure hope people haven't grown attached to Gio, Egbert, Danks or DLS. Gio and Fields would get it done in a hurry IMO.

QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:03 AM) And none of those guys would I hesitate in trading for someone like Crawford. I think the headliner would be Josh Fields in a deal like this. I recall Ozzie saying near the end of the year that if they could move Fields to bring back a big time player he'd be in favor of it. If anyone needs me to get a link- I will. I'll just go ahead and believe you'll take my word for it for now.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) 1 guaranteed year remaining on his deal but there are 2 team options as well. 2008: $5.25 million 2009: $8.25 million club option w/$2.5 million buyout 2010: $10 million club option w/$1.25 million buyout Crawford at 3 yrs for 23.5 million? Oh I hope the rumor is true.

QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) Could the Sox trade for Abreu? Abreu has a 1yr/16 mil deal with the Yanks. With the departure of ARod, they'll really need his slugging and OBP more than ever. With a 1 yr deal, it wouldn't be worth the WSox to get him anyway....especially at 16 million.
  13. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:14 AM) He lost his starting job to a rookie. We trade for a 4th of'er and give up a great 3B man? I don't think so. There are other options on the FA market much more attractive than Crisp. I agree that Crisp isn't anything great, but what options in FA are better considering the inevitable ridiculous price tags?
  14. QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Definatly no- If the WSox could get Crisp for next to nothing (prospects that no one really cares about, even Boston) and Boston deals Crisp just to deal him....I wouldn't hate it.
  15. You could probably get Crisp for pretty much anything.
  16. I just don't see what all the hate for Owens is for. I don't think he's anything special, either. However, how can anyone hate the idea of him moving to LF and batting 8th or 9th? Owens gives us another dimension that we wouldn't necessarily have without him in his ability to play small ball/steal bases.
  17. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) I dont really like any of those...There are better moves using those players. Most of those trades I have yet to see other then on here so I don't think they're legit. One thing I noticed in fall ball is that Matt LaPorta is looking pretty good. Maybe moving Kong in an Angels trade could allow us to snag a young, mlb bat ready player like LaPorta. He is completely blocked and not able to move anywhere else IMO. Why not try for him? They could use Garland and he is very expandable. Just a new thought to consider. The Brewers are going to move LaPorta to LF. So I don't see them giving up on for another year or two at the earliest.
  18. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/rumors/post/Ya...,50302&cp=2 I guess it's just what Posada costs to the Yankees. My guess is that he signs with the Mets for 3yrs/45 million.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 06:34 PM) If we trade for Damon, we better sign Hunter or Rowand because if not Damon will most assuredly be butchering CF for the next 2 seasons. I think it's a foregone conclusion that Damon will be in LF next year no matter what.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) What are the contractual status' of both Burrell and Damon ? I have little interest in either guy....Burrell strikes out way too often, and Damon seems to be breaking down and both make in excess of 10 million dollars. I am in favor of keeping Crede for next season at 3B, but if we do move him, I'm hoping it's for a possible starting pitcher and/or a dependable relief pitcher. I also want to see if we could get a young arm that could have a shot at making our rotation next year for Crede and the Yanks would be that team able to facilitate that idea. Burrell has one year left at around 14 million (Type A FA) Damon has 2 years left at around 26 million (if a deal gets done it's projected that the Yanks eat around 4 mil/year and we'd owe Damon 18mil for 2yrs)
  21. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Yankee fans thoughts on a possible trade... http://forums.nyyfans.com/showthread.php?t=107567 I love the "I'd be happy with De Los Santos for Damon" Then another Yankee fan comes in and says "Yeah and I'd do a backflips in a house fire"
  22. No way in hell we'd get Broxton. He is at least their SU man next year and is their closer of the future. No way they'd get him.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 01:43 PM) No, holding your opposition to 1 or 2 runs was the reason we were winning. Also, having a bullpen that was pretty much a guarantee to hold on to a win from the 7th inning on helped a lot also. Now, I'm not saying we can't have a terrific bullpen again...but we're a far way from that right now. Right our ability to manufacture runs that year had nothing to do with us breaking out. Of course our SP/Bullpen were the reasons we won it all, but we were able to manufacture runs in '05 unlike any other year before. We were able to put up massive numbers on offense every season before it. However, we would score 10 runs one day and then 1 the next. Ozzie's philosophy helped us become World Champions without question.
  24. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 01:35 PM) The White Sox ranked 11th out of 14 in OBP in 2005. They had a pitching staff that was outstanding. That is what wins. Let us not forget about Podsednik's role that season. We also had Rowand and Iguchi swipe 16 and 15 bases respectively. Putting pressure on the defense and opposing pitcher is a big deal in consistently scoring runs every day.
  25. QUOTE(max power @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 01:16 PM) He difinitely sucked. No argument there. I guess I just am not certain that the logic you are using to predict what he will be like next year is valid. That's because it's a subjective opinion with no basis or logic at all.
