QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 02:11 PM) I liked Garland but I think the White Sox got the better end of this deal. I believe Cabrera is better then Renteria and Furcal and this team is better because of it. HELL YEAH! I loved this deal when I saw it go across the bottom of the screen during the Marquette game. (I LOVE finding out great news that way) People should know that I don't like KW, but I have to give it up for KW on this one. OC is a hell of a ball player. He immediately upgrades our small ball, speed and defense. He fits this team like a glove. IF we can re-sign OC to a short extension, this deal will have been a smashing success. We have a hell of a better chance re-signing OC than we did Garland. So long, Jon Garland. Thanks for all you've done on the South Side. WELCOME OC!!!!

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 05:18 PM) Which highlights something that is pretty much inevitable in 2008... after years of Ventura and Crede at 3B, us spoiled Sox fans are going to see what its like to not have a well above average defensive 3B. Not to say the Sox shouldn't trade Crede, because I think they probably need to... just to point out that it will be highly unlikely the Sox have that kind of defender at 3B for some time. Despite Fields being a great athlete....I agree with that sentiment. I still see Fields being an above average 3B.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 05:11 PM) Well you're big on telling people not to nitpick stats... I took his number for the full year. 2008, if they both play full seasons, Pierre and Owens will probably be nearly identical players. So for anything more than a couple million (for Pierre's one value over Owens - proven time - against Owen's potential), I'll stay away from Pierre. That all said, just to reiterate, I don't think either one should be the #1 option. Owens showed a lot of improvement last year and it was good to see. I don't mind Owens in LF next year if we can get a capable CF.

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 18, 2007 -> 09:14 AM) Even if they are picking up most of his contract, I still do not want him here. It's all a moot point because the Dodgers are interested in moving him to LF for THEMSELVES. They're not going to deal him so we need not worry.

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 05:43 PM) Please tell me you didn't see much of Robin. Didn't see Robin rob RBI-Double after RBI-Double in the World Series, no.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) That's the going rate now though especially for someone as durable as he's been. Agreed, but at the same time, after signing all of their pitchers to multiple yr/double digit per year contracts and getting burned...I don't think they'll do it again. I really think they'll go a different route this time. Re-signing MB and Javy to those big deals is probably all they want to do. KW will have to take the Jerry Angelo approach at some point and say, "You can't have your cake and eat it, too." He's going to have to rely on guys like Danks and Gio to play big rolls on our big league club sooner rather than later.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) While your point is taken...I think it would be foolish to insist on pitching as a return for JG given the state of our minor leagues and the fact that we're mildly stronger on pitching talent than on position players. Naturally, if someone offers you a Kershaw you laugh all the way to the bank, but barring that, I would put a higher priority on finding someone who could play the field somewhere. That could be- and we'd get picked off by the police before we made it to the bank with Kershaw... I may sound like a broken record in saying this trade, but a deal with Zona for Owings/Nippert and Pena would be ideal in KW's mind IMO.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:40 PM) If the White Sox are unable to sign Hunter, might they be willing to look at resigning Garland instead with this money ? Just an idea, but it's hard to compete with a mediocre starting rotation. It isn't a bad idea, however I don't think the WSox want to give Garland an MB contract. Not that he isn't worth it to them, but I don't think they want to tie up another SP for multiple seasons at 12 mil/year.

QUOTE(spiderman @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) I don't think the White Sox are going to dump players in order to improve the farm system - they resigned Dye and Buerhle to compete now. Agreed, although Garland is certainly a player they'll look to dump for multiple young Grade B arms.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) 1. Stewart/Owens, LF 2. Loretta/Richar, 2B 3. Thome, DH 4. Konerko, 1B 5. Dye, RF 6. Fields, 3B 7. Pierzynski, C 8. Hall, SS 9. Crisp, CF I'm hoping this is similar to our starting lineup next season. I'm not hot on Loretta, however and don't think he's looking to platoon with a guy like Richar. You can also replace Uribe with Hall on there. But everything else I really agree with.

QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 05:54 PM) I posted this in another thread...sorry bout that. Anyways...I saw they think that Ronny Cedeno will be apart of the deal. Why? The Rays have Brignac who is a stud. They also still have joel Guzman who I would love to get given the chance. They already have Zobrist up and could essentially try Upton at his natural position if they wanted...More importantly, they have Iwamura at 3rd with Longoria chompin at the bits to get up to the show...If he does, Iwamura is a candidate to move to SS, is he not??? This whole Cubs rumor thing is rediculous to me if they pull it off...and if they land Crawford, KW better get his head out of his ass and get Miggy. I'd assume a package would consist of Hill and Marmol as stated on the radio...But no Cedeno. Why they wouldn't demand Pie or Soto is beyond me if the deal is serious. I would rather try for those guys and look to get a SS elsewhere. However, as I said...Hopefully just the thought of this wakes KW up. Every Cub fan I've talked to despises this deal. They love Soto's upside as these Cubs people have really wanted a great hitting catcher for a long time. They feel Soto as the ability to do that. They love Pie's defense and believe Marmol will be the Cubs closer before too long. One of the guys said, "If this is a serious trade discussion than our management can go to hell." I agree with them. As a matter of fact, I just see the D-Rays reaching to see what they can get. I don't see Crawman going anywhere.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2007 -> 12:09 PM) According to the New York Daily News David Eckstein is looking for a deal in the range of 4 years, $36M. I find that quite humorous. Those are exactly the numbers that Lugo got last year- so I'd expect his agent to shoot for the same. Ridiculous? Of course. Probably the only reason I'm happy to see Uribe back at SS next year.
-
People should be happy about this. Look, I love Joe Crede as much as the next guy. I STILL believe he was our best player pre-September in '06. I'll go one further and say he's the best defensive 3rd Baseman I've ever seen. However, it doesn't make sense to keep Crede with one year on his deal coming off of back-surgery. If it were possible for us to re-sign him, fine. But it isn't with Boras negotiating any potential deal. Add in the fact that we have a young cheap prospect like Fields to cover the hot-corner and this move is a no-brainer. Why should we be happy with this news? Look at those teams- BoSox, Halos and Dodgers!?!?! Their 2nd Tier Prospects would become valued prospects in our farm system.
-
Pierre is a butcher boy. That contract the Dodgers gave him was outright stupid. With all of these options out there: Trade prospects for Crawford, Trade our entire farm system for Miggy, Trade Crede for an old beat up Damon, Trade for Pierre and pick up his hefty contract, Sign Hunter/Rowand for a boat load of money.... All of these options make me like the idea of Owens playing in LF and seeing if we could deal Garland for a guy like Gomez....or just give pennies and get Crisp. Our organization better start thinking pennies on the dollar, because a lot of these deals just don't make sense for us.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 15, 2007 -> 11:27 AM) get 6.0 or 6.5, '07 isnt compatible. Will do.

I went ahead and posted my app. I will be buying/d'ling the '07 version tomorrow when I get home from work this morning. Hopefully there is a team available, if not- I'll play the game on my own and wait for an opening to happen.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 07:29 PM) I don't see a deal involving Bill Hall being made; Melvin would be dumb to trade Hall at such low value. It's probably about time these Bill Hall rumors be put to bed anyway. The fact that Milwaukee is holding out and pretending that Bill Hall is their man in CF next year is stupid. If the Brewers actually think that'll jack up the asking price for Billy and that other teams would believe that....they'll continue to be balked at about as bad as Boras in the ARod dealings. If the Brewers actually are serious about Bill Hall in CF...I hope they enjoy finishing behind the Cubs and perhaps someone else next year. That organization is starting to show complete carelessness about their defense.
-
I'd be interested in joining if there was still time to join before the official off-season begins.
-
Hey guys...f*** Linebrink. Did anyone actually watch him in Milwaukee last year? He was terrible. "But look what he did in San Diego!" Stop it. Just stop. You or I could have a good ERA at Petco. I wouldn't want Linebrink for anything less than free, let alone draft picks and a big contract. I'd rather take a flyer on a guy like Jeremy Affeldt or give Nick Masset a shot at Middle Relief.

As optimistic as I've been and as big of a fan of Miggy that I am... Even I've been coming to the reality that there is probably less than a 10% chance of dealing for Miggy. We just don't have what it takes to get him. If Florida did like what we had as far as young talent goes....it'd take all of it. Forget this Fields, Floyd, Gio and Egbert stuff. It'd take Danks, Gio, De Los Santos, Owens/Sweeney/Anderson and Fields. We'll come to the realization as a fan base sooner or later.

QUOTE(103 mph screwball @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) The Rangers win. The Yankees lose. There is no way I'd bring ARod back unless it was a pay cut. Texas was paying a significant part of his salary, right? They aren't anymore. I'd be so pissed if I were a Yankee fan. What if Thome had an out clause and exercised it so that Philly was off the hook. Then, he came back to KW and offered to come back for 12 million or so that the Sox would have to pay all of. KW would flip a table. The bright side of this it that the list of teams that want nothing to do with Boras seems to be going up. Actually the Rangers still have to pay ARod/Yanks 9 million in that opt out. I suppose it's still a hell of a lot better than paying the 21 million over the next few years.

QUOTE(PAUL KONERKO 14 @ Nov 14, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Castillo=Not the answer to our problems. I would rather not have him on our team. Considering he looked to have a tough time walking back to the dugout the past few years.....yeah.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 11:16 PM) A 1-2 of Crawford and Soriano is awfully sexy. I'd be really jealous.
-
QUOTE(Lemon_44 @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 11:21 PM) Beckett is the only sure thing and they had to rest(DL) him during the year. Schilling and Wakefield are both in their 90's so they can't be counted on much longer.Dice-K stunk the 2nd half. The two young guys haven't proven they can be long term answers. So, Boston,like every MLB team, very much needs starting pitching.They just may not be as desperate as some other teams. If Boston trades any of their young arms this year it'll be in a deal for Johan...not Garland.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Nov 13, 2007 -> 06:04 PM) Why do people think Jones is going to get a 1 year deal? This is the same agent that got Magglio Ordonez a 5 year, $75 mill deal with escalator clauses to bring it up to a 7 year, $105 mill deal when Magglio's career was in jeopardy. I don't foresee Andruw Jones getting a 1 year deal, but perhaps that's just me. It's not just you- If Druw Jones' camp best offer was a 5 yr/65, at the end of the day they'd take it. Jones will get at least that. This isn't Jeff Weaver we're talking about here.
