  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 01:27 AM) From Rotoworld via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Thanks for the update on that. It's very much appreciated from a big "Bill Hall at SS for our WSox" backer. I'm glad KW at least checked to see if we could get him. This may sound like sour grapes, but it isn't....The Brewers have no clue on how bad they are defensively. Hall was terrible in CF last year and he took that to the plate with him. The Brewers have enough offense and need to play a guy for defensive purposes for a change.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 08:07 AM) Kenny Williams said: http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox09.article Now this makes no sense to me. Why in earth we send Fields down to AAA even if Crede stays? What was the whole purpose of having Fields in LF last season? This tells me that KW already has the LF spot already filled, and I have a real bad feeling it will be 'you know who'. That's just KW trying to drive up the asking price for Joe Crede IMO. "We're so confident in Joe that we'll send Fields down to AAA next year, so if you want to make a deal for him- we're not just going to give him away." Someone should tell KW nobody is buying it. Everyone knows he'll essentially give Crede away.
  3. I'm not sure why the Twins are looking to deal young pitching, unless they're just going to keep Johan all year and let him walk for picks.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 3, 2007 -> 10:04 AM) Wow, I'm shocked by this. Let's just crown his ass. haha. Seriously, his next 15 effort will probably be in December, but good point, he's erased everything from the past.
  5. QUOTE(greg775 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 02:19 AM) I think you are going to get your wish, but why would you be furious if inning-eater Garland is on our team next year? Don't understand. He's thinking along the lines of every smart WSox fan in the fact that Garland will be gone after next year anyway in all liklihood. Why not pick up a few arms for him before he goes? Nippert, Owings and Pena from Arizona is a deal that I would target for Garland. I'd settle for Nippert, Cruz and Pena if I had to. We'd add a potential set up man in Pena and a guy like Nippert would compete for the 5th Spot. Owings would be in our rotation for sure, while Cruz would provide another BP/LR arm.
  6. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 02:04 AM) Looks like we could kill that noise: per Ken Rosenthal The fact that he states that the Red Sox and Yankees are interested totally discredits this report. The Yanks have come out and said they won't deal multiple young arms for Miggy. Boston is trying to re-sign Lowell. I totally believe the Dodgers/Angels interest, but this all sounds like pure speculation on Rosenthal's part.
  7. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:14 PM) If Uribe can hit .255, Richar can hit .265, Konerko can rebound to .280, Crede get .270, Fields .270.. we're competing for the wild card. No chance in hell with Uribe hitting .255. I know you already know this and was stating the above as an admiration, but he's hit .234 the past two seasons combined. Uribe is terrible and I'm not over thrilled with the re-signing to say the least.
  8. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 07:31 AM) Yes. Fields is one of the in the organization that would have real value to Flordia. A deal of Fields/Gio/DLS would certainly be something Flordia would have to listen to. Just another reason why having a solid farm system is so important. Judging from the Beckett deal in the past, Florida got MLB ready players in that deal (Han-Ram and Sanchez). While I'm sure they'd be interested in acquiring DLS, we could probably get away with keeping DLS. Agreed that Fields would HAVE to be involved, Fields/Gio/Floyd/Egbert is a deal that I would do rather quickly. Fields would be their starting 3B right away and it's more than likely all three pitchers would be on their MLB Roster after dealing Willis as well.
  9. I also should've mentioned that I don't buy the ARod to Mets talk. If ARod goes anywhere, I don't see him playing 3B again. Let's not forget that he just didn't want to get away from the Yankees....he wanted to get the hell out of New York. I'm sure if the Mets talked to Boras the same amazing 350 Mil contract would be the standard for the Mets as well.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:56 PM) Interesting speculation that if the Mets sign ARod, they then could use Wright to trade for Johan. I just see them moving Wright LF or 1B if they sign ARod. I doubt even the Mets would want to pay 30 mil/year to two different guys. No, sir. I think the Mets will just have to settle on Contreras for some of those famous Shea Stadium Nachos.
  11. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) They honestly don't care about baseball. They are just a minor league all-star team that competes until those guys are MLB stars. Once they are, they go sign the pieces to the puzzle and win. Then they dismantle and do it again. I'm not really sure how they can be considered a real organization at this point. Despite winning two WS, they should still be contracted. How they don't relocate or haven't relocated yet is mind boggling.
  12. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:51 PM) They're asking for a young CFer and two young pitchers.... I saw speculation that it would cost the Yankees Melky and two of Hughes/Chamberlain/Kennedy... I'm sure they'd take Anderson/Broadway/McCulloch... 3 FIRST ROUNDERS, BABY! If the Yanks do that they can kiss the chances of getting Johan from the Twins good bye.
  13. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 11:38 PM) Also, we are making too much out of his weight. At worst, he goes to 1st base. It's not like he is Cecil Fielder. He isn't David Wells balloon size or even a young talented Prince Fielder. I dont hear The Brew complaining? All that said, Ozzie would seriously do this guy a lot I think. I have a feeling With all eyes on Johan on the trade front, and all eyes on Arod for FA, that we may be able to snag him if we give a great early offer. I can see Ozzie lobbying like crazy to make him a priority now and years to come. People forget that he's only 24 and he's just a kid.
  14. I just hope we are/are about/have been in discussions with Florida regarding Miggy. People can say all they want about the Yanks, Angels and others having more to give for Miggy, but they all have other plans IMO. Take the Yankees, the pressue is on them to get Johan Santana. The Angels? ARod. I agree with what was said earlier in that the the other NL teams will be fazed out by the Marlins due to compettitive reasons. That woudl leave ourselves and the Red Sox. The Red Sox certainly have more to give than we do, but would they want to? After this year, it's fair to say that Schilling and Wakefield will depart and their rotation will have two openings. They may not want to give up Bucholz, Bard or Bowden in a deal which would really eliminate them from contention. If KW hasn't or isn't planning on talking to the Marlins- f*** him. Fields, Sweeney, Gio, Floyd and De Los Santos would be hard for the Marlins to pass up. I wouldn't blink at giving all of those players up for Miggy.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 03:38 PM) As for Greene, he's been mentioned here before, but the Padres would also need a SS replacement obviously, so I don't see them trading him unless they get a real good offer. Khalil Greene would blow up at US Cellular. His defense is top notch and I don't think we could be so lucky as to pull in Greene.
  16. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 02:10 PM) hmm...didn't know they had those plans to do that. Where did you find that out cuz that is depressing news. My roommate a couple summers back was from UF and talked about him non-stop. So naturally when the Brew crew drafted him I was a little shocked and monitored him as a target. Thanks for the heads up though. No prob. I live in Brewer country and that was the talk as soon as they drafted LaPorta. This Brewer organization really doesn't give a rip about defense. They just plan on scoring 10 runs a game and dominating the NL for years to come. I'm interested to see where that organization goes.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) Fernando Hernandez has come a long way for a 49th round draft pick. Our AAA bullpen looks pretty good with Onelli Perez, Fernando Hernandez, Dewon Day, Adam Russell, Carlos Vasquez, and a couple of others. That's great news because we'll more than likely need one of those arms to step up for us in the pen late in '08.
  18. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) So, he got it doing coke and roids? LMAO
  19. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:18 PM) He said recently they knew. Now he doesn't. Who knows. Can't take much of his posturing literally. We'll just have to see how things look when the dust settles. I don't think we can ever put any kind of stock in what KW says.
  20. QUOTE(29andPoplar @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Sorry, forgot to add, they had a sound byte of KW from the meetings, talking about the SS situation. He said "we don't know what we're going to do yet" on Uribe's option. Said the Sox are looking at SS, and every position for that matter, and determining if they can upgrade. I thought I'd seen him quoted as saying they knew what they were going to do with Uribe's option. On what they're going to do with Uribe...the answer should be an easy one. Whether Uribe is on our roster or not, other teams we'll talk trade with knows we need a SS anyway.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:42 PM) He's still a hell of a productive player. I hope Fields is as productive. I don't care how frustrating it gets at times. Fair enough.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:33 PM) What the hell do you want from the man? 40-100-100 every season. .925+ OPS. He's a beast. He destroys RHP to the tune of 1.000+ OPS. Fields will never be Adam Dunn though. Fields will never walk as much as Dunn, that's for sure. I have friends in Cincinnati that claim Dunn to be a huge rally killer. Since he's been the bigs he's struck out 170 times a year to the tune of a career .248 BA. He's as exciting as it gets at times, but he's the type of guy you'd rather watch play on someone else's team IMO.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:27 PM) What's wrong with Adam Dunn? I pray Fields turns out to be as good a hitter as Dunn. I suppose Dunn would be king around here because of his OBP. What I don't like about Dunn is that he's not a complete player. He's a guess hitter and a porous defender. Teams are scared to Christ to pitch to him, of course, but a player like Dunn frustrates because I don't think he's come close to living up to his talent.

QUOTE(scenario @ Nov 5, 2007 -> 12:11 PM) Besides, we (WhiteSox fans) value Fields higher than other teams do. My guess is because he was the only recent highly touted prospect we've had to hold his head above water at the Major League level in his initial stint with the club. However he shows awesome power and is a great athlete. I do like Fields, but he looks like an Adam Dunn to me at this point.
