QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) I'm right there too. I think Flowers can be a starting catcher in the majors, but considering the Sox want to be competitive next year, and there are already as many holes as there are, you can't afford to have a black hole in that lineup anywhere, and Flowers could easily be that for the first month or two. I think what management is afraid of is the drop-off in calling the game behind the plate. If Flowers was given the shot from day 1...I don't think there would be much of a drop off it all from AJ offensively. Sure there would be a drop-off in average, but Flowers power at the Cell would be an upgrade over AJ IMHO.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) http://riveraveblues.com/2010/09/why-the-r...-matters-35982/ The Rangers have the first shot at signing Cliff Lee, and even though it would make sense for him to test free agency, they may ultimately overwhelm him to the point where he can't say no. $70-80 million a year plus an $80 million signing bonus...that gives the Rangers an influx of approximately $150 million this year towards resigning players. I would say that the Rangers are the prohibitive favorites to sign him, with the Yankees coming in right behind them. Beyond that, the Brewers only offered Sabathia $100 million. That's a hell of a lot different than $161 million, and any advisor Sabathia may have had would have told him to reject that offer and go on the free agent market. It is unknown what the Brewers offered Sabathia, but it's believed to be in that $100-$120 million range. Regardless, if the Phillies couldn't have worked out a deal with Lee after last season....I can't imagine he's "overwhelmed" and doesn't test FA with the Yankees always willing to up the ante on anyone no matter what.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) I don't think that Williams and company have enough confidence in Flowers to give him the reins next season. Me, either.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Flowers is also only going to be 25 next season...not that he's really young or anything, but there is still time for him to establish himself at the major league level. I'm not worried about him yet, but the Sox really shouldn't trade him at this point with his stock as low as it is. Would you make Ty Flowers the man or would you bring back AJ for 1yr/6 mil? (not sure if that's possible but I believe it would be). I'd cut ties with AJ (one of my all time favorite WSox) and go to Spring Training with Flowers, Lucy and Phegley.

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) True, the Rangers will see a revenue increase regardless of how they finish the postseason, but as rockren pointed out, when it comes to the free agent market, it's the Yankees world and the rest of us are just living in it. The smart money would try to target someone like Danks to keep costs low next season while collecting all that added revenue. I'm certainly not arguing the increase they'll see in revenue...I also believe they'll be very aggressive in trying to resign Lee. But as you said, no way the Yanks are outbid for his services.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) The Brewers have always had jacks*** for funds. The Rangers are under completely new ownership and just signed a $3 billion TV deal that will apparently guarantee them like $150 million before each season. On top of that, they are going to get like a $70-80 million signing bonus from the contract which they will be able to use on personnel. The Brewers didn't exactly have that. I say, if you don't think the Rangers can resign Cliff Lee, then you're crazy. The Brewers draw 30,000 fans a night and have more money than you might think. They have great revenue from Miller Park and do quite well in the state of Wisconsin. I have many contacts in sports marketing and the Brewers aren't the Packers, but they've gained ground. They've just pissed so much money away on guys like Wolf, Suppan, Hall, Gagne...they may as well have offered CC $150 mil. Oh wait...the Yankees gave him $160 mil. The Yankees will make the Rangers irrelevant in a hurry the same way. I also don't buy the Rangers having a ton of money...the only reason Nolan Ryan and his partners won that bidding is because MLB wanted nothing to do with Cuban. The Yanks won't be outbid by that outfit...not in a million years.

I would do this deal if I were the WSox....probably the Rangers, too (as my above post shows I fully expect Lee to bolt). However, I'd find a way to move MB and deal with Danks in arbitration. I know this has been mentioned in another thread, but with the Cardinals bringing back La Russa for another year...you can't tell me Rasmus for MB/Danks2 isn't appealing to them. If the WSox had to pick up 2-4 mil of MB's final year on his contract...I'm guessing the WSox would be fine with that considering they just gave away $4mil to the Dodgers without caring. Besides, freeing up 10-14 mil makes it easier for the WSox to chase Crawford next year along with Dunn. I see Rasmus getting moved with the rift between he and Pujols. You could certainly argue Rasmus being moved for more than MB...like Greinke per say.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 20, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) Not sure why the Rangers would give up that much when they just announced today that they are going to try their absolute hardest to resign Cliff Lee and that they are going to bring a very legitimate offer to the table. Considering they amount of cash flow coming into the organization right now, it's not unfathomable to believe that they will be able to resign him. Yeah, right. Just like the Brewers went all out to bring CC back. If the Yankees want Lee (which they do) they'll get him.

It's great to see Ozzie go over 600 wins as WSox skipper here to end the season (my apologies if this has already been brought up). I'm still not convinced Ozzie will be back next year. While I agree you could argue he's always had a winnable schedule and should have won the division more than twice in his seven year stint...subtract the 90 loss season where EVERYTHING went wrong and Ozzie averaged winning near 90 games/year in a time where the AL has been crazy good.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 12, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) 3 years $36 million? No.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) The Twins are hot. The Sox are cold. There are 41 games left. I think the Sox can pick up 1 game out every 10 played on the Twins. Especially with the good guys playing 16 of their last 22 at home.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Is three years, 36 million the minimum PK is looking at right now? My friends and I talked about this last night. I agree if 3yr/36mil is what it would take to keep PKo...I wish him well somewhere else. The 2yr/20 mil as mentioned would be a great contract for P-Ko and maybe the WSox. I believe P-Ko to be JR's favorite player and the WSox will do what it takes to keep him should it be a good move or not. P-Ko will be 35 going into next year. I hate the idea of owing him 10 million when he's 36, but it very well may be what the WSox will do. I'd rather the WSox offer him a 2yr/25 million deal with a TO/BO worth 2 or 3 million for the second year, but we'll see what happens. I'd be fine with P-Ko walking if he turned down such a deal and received Type A.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) I'll start caring about his walks if he ever cools down. Until then, swing away! Like that shot today where he almost dropped to his knee and still hit it out on a lazer. Tank is a stud.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:23 PM) Meaning?? Meaning those factors/clubs are reasons we won't win it all this year.

Thanks, Knight!

Is it just me...or is Dukes a frickin' legend on soxtalk? Seriously, people have a serious hard on around here for that guy. That guy is a loser of epic proportions...I wouldn't want him anywhere near my WSox.

I just watched it thanks to my DVR... Franks represented himself with class as always. I've always been proud to call him my favorite baseball player growing up and am just as proud today to say he's why I'm a WSox fan.

Not to be disrespectful here...and I'm actually surprised no one has ever had this... "Jesus Walks" by Kanye West

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2009 -> 03:04 PM) The Sox are probably going to end up paying Teahen right around $2-2.5 mill. That isn't a huge chunk of change. I'm really excited to see Teahan everyday at 3B for us next year.

I'm very surprised at the props Gamel has been given in this thread. Gamel is so brutally terrible at 3B...the BREWERS couldn't stand him there. That says A LOT when you consider Braun played at 3B for almost an entire year while Ricky Weeks and Prince Fielder has held down 1B and 2B for years while being boarder line horrible defensively. Hell...the Brewers stuck Hall back at 3B and sent Gamel back to AAA. Hall hit a whopping .132 in May and was given 3B back. That's how awful Gamel is over there. The only way Gamel will ever see the Bigs again in Milwaukee for an extended period of time will be at 1B. It doesn't sound like the Brewers have ANY interest in moving Prince as they control him for the next two years. I live in the Madison area and I love the Brewers...if I had a 2nd team it would be them. If the WSox wanted to deal for Gamel (which I highly doubt them having interest at this point) they wouldn't have to give up anything near Floyd.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 05:01 PM) That is really tough. Sounds grindy. No way we see this guy in pinstripes next year...he's more likely to be sporting orange in a prison somewhere.

Myers is so tough he'll punch his wife in the face in public for everyone to see.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 8, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Or if you have a subscription to their magazine, which is 10x better than anything else ESPN produces. Yeah the magazine is ok. It isn't a very "polished" magazine and can often times be rather useless like most ESPN products...but for paying less than $5 a year it's worth it.
