QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 03:06 PM) This is a winner. Sigh. Very basic scientific facts I learned in about the 4th grade.

Gold or Silver Backed Monetary Transactions
lostfan replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in The Filibuster
When people start rambling about the gold standard it's kind of prima facie evidence that they don't really know s*** and you can safely ignore most, if not all, of what they're saying. Same thing when they put a heavy emphasis on the strength of the dollar. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 09:47 AM) So you're saying the ticket will wind up being Palin/Bachmann? I'd like to see Palin and Bachmann fight for nomination the way Hillary and Obama did. It would be hilarious, and it'd guarantee Obama a 2nd term.

s***.

i'm going to have on a Bears hat, probably.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 4, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) You'll never "know enough about" it though, that's the point. It was the most-debated piece of legislation in my lifetime. maybe even in history.

I use Schwab. They aren't too bad about the fees and whatnot ($8.95 per trade). I can't really speak intelligently on comparisons between the other ones, and really the only reason I use Schwab is because my aunt had a custodial account for me since I was 12 (I'm the same age as Jenksismyb****) that I didn't find out about until 2007. Right now this is what my portfolio looks like: 2 small-cap financial/real estate stocks, one pays about a 18.5% dividend that will stay that way as long as interest rates stay low Verizon BP Two value/growth mutual funds - the original ones I started off with, lost money in 2008, one is making money like crazy and the other just got back to the break-even point (this is about half my portfolio, between these two) A Schwab international mutual fund (don't really need this anymore, made a few hundred off it and might sell it to get a small cap index fund for growth) Taking Y2HH's advice from a couple of months ago on the S&P 500 I'm going to get an ETF and push most of my money into that, and just play with a few stocks every now and then for something to do. I just haven't gotten around to it because I don't plan on selling stuff I already own to get it, I'm going to start doing that the old-fashioned way. I really wish I had pumped about 5 grand or so into either of those mutual funds in 2008 or 2009 because I'd have gotten it all back by now.

So Shana called Verizon looking for a better deal, and they said the package I was subscribing to was "outdated" and upgraded me from 25/15 internet to 35/35 for no reason, and my bill is $17 lower to boot. Score.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Hey, that was the most fun I've ever had playing Black Ops. And to whoever asked about purchasing ps3 with move or xbox with kinect, i own both and my two cents are that I think the kinect has more of a "cool" factor since there are no controllers and the camera is really accurate.. But so far it looks like it will only play nice with games that are "On rails", whereas the PS3 move will actually feature "real" games (Killzone 3 comes to mind). Its all about what you're looking to get out of these movement type games. I honestly only play kinect when my little brother is over, or when T R U is at work and neglecting our Black Ops partnership. Then you have to think about the whole price for xbox live as opposed to the no charge PSN, if you think that you will get into online gaming with your system thats definitely something to consider. The only real difference I see personally between my xbox and my PS3 are: PS3 has Blu-ray (Sometimes a game is just too large to fit on one DVD and requires an extra install disc for xbox, not really a nuisance at all though once the game is installed) PS3 can connect 4+ controllers to the system at one time (Xbox only 4 at maximum) Xbox allows you to play custom soundtracks for any game at absolutely any time (PS3 only allows it for certain games, and that doesnt happen very often at all) Xbox allows cross game party chat (Truly the only difference i see between Xbox live and PSN, enough to justify about 50 bucks a year? You decide) Again these are all just my 2 cents *Puts on flame suit and ducks down* I think the Blu-Ray storage capacity is pretty overblown considering the lens is so slow reading the discs. Yeah, DVD capacity is limited but switching DVDs in mid-game is a minor inconvenience that's kind of offset by installing it on the hard drive if it bothers someone that much. I honestly don't know why anybody would need to use more than 4 controllers, though. That just sounds like an argument for fanboys on the internet like they were doing with Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD where they can argue extremely rare theoretical situations.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 07:14 AM) I'm thinking of picking up either a PS3 with the Move or an XBox with the Kinect. Anyone have experience with either and have any suggestions? I played Kinect at my friend's house on NYE, it was Dance Central. That was really fun. I finished Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord last night for Mass Effect 2. Both really, really good.

Pretty much all of the Packers blitzes were getting right through, the line was as bad as it's been in any game besides the Giants game. Dom Capers completely pwned this line. Horrible effort on everybody on offense except for Forte, Cutler was holding onto the ball too long but that's because Martz was using 7-step drops like we had New England's line or something. He didn't seem to know what to do about the blitzing, but again, the line wasn't picking them up. The receivers, besides Davis and sometimes Olsen, weren't doing anything all game to get open, especially once the Packers started keying in on him, so between that and the rush, Cutler's throws were off-target (not necessarily bad decisions, but not throwing flat-footed). And WTF was up with that time-out that cancelled out the Chester Taylor first down? That was a big momentum swing, almost as big as that underthrown INT in the end zone for Cutler. This was one of Johnny Knox's worst games as a Bear. He may as well have thrown on a green and white jersey and lined up as a DB, although I FINALLY saw him reach up to knock down a pass after he blew a route. Usually he leaves Cutler out to dry.
-
Martz's playcalling was garbage today. I thought he already learned that lesson? What he can and can't do? The O-line didn't just suddenly start being better. All of that was an illusion and I thought it was obvious even to casual fans.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:57 PM) Decent job Jay but you need to slide. Good luck trying to talk him into that, he just doesn't really believe in sliding.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 2, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) Even then, do you want to be in that situation? To win the game and put the Packers down? Yes
-
If this offense can get a TD on this drive it's still very much a game. But it's not looking good.
-
Time to pull the starters. Cutler sacked 6 times.
-
Bears (specifically, the O-line) can't do anything about the blitzing.
-
Not this s*** again.
-
What a HORRIFIC offensive series.
-
ARE YOU f***ING SERIOUS?
-
Cutler had to wait for his receivers to get downfield and it was too late by the time he realized it.
-
Nice goal line stand. Need the offense to get something going.
