Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 13, 2011 -> 10:49 AM) He said political pep rally "setting" and it was with all the cheering. There was even whistling and screaming when it was silent. It was just bizarre. I thought the intro was over the top for the occasion and kind of lead to that atmosphere early in the speech. Anyway, I thought Obama handled it well and it was an eloquent speech. On one of caulfields points, yes, some may have accused him of manipulation if he would have lost it or teared up, just as they did to Bush at the MOH ceremony a few years back, but that someone wouldn't have been me. Presidents are human and I believe their emotions are real when it comes to death. I lost it when they showed that little girl and were talking about her. With children of my own, that stuff just tears me apart and I think most parents are the same way, including the Prez. Nothing worse than shutting of the shining light in an innocent child. +1 -
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 12:27 AM) I'm not the only one who thinks he looks like Omar Epps!!!! I thought this was like a borderline internet meme actually

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) I doubt that Frank gets in on the first ballot for three reasons. 1. He spent years as a DH. 2. 1994. He was dominant force having his best season ... then baseball shut down. 3. Giambi's steroid enhanced MVP season cost Frank his 3rd. Second time around, he's in. frank's 1994 is still looked at with awe even by non-Sox fans. It's kind of difficult to comprehend that a human being actually put up those numbers.

I don't think Verizon's network is going to have problems handling the extra traffic. They've been dealing with high-bandwidth smartphones for a couple of years now so they don't have to scramble to keep up the way AT&T did, they've been able to build up their network more or less in peace. Also depending on where you live your iPhone might be nerfed on Verizon's network since technically AT&T's network is about twice as fast. Although this was already true.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) If it is true that this shooter has genuine psychological issues...and is perhaps a legitimate psychotic...I doubt that there are very many parents anywhere who would understand how to recognize the development of those problems as the shooter was growing up, and even fewer who would be able to provide the necessary treatment on their own. These sort of legitimate mental breakdown issues are the sort that it's hard for everyday people to recognize, even harder for people who are close to them every day. Even still, he was 22 years old. The most that could happen is he gets taken for evaluation for 24 hours, 72 at most, and unless he is some imminent danger he'd be released. A lot of psychological issues can be treated with medication or therapy but it costs $$ usually for years or the person's entire life so even if they'd identified that when he was a kid, and he was in some kind of program, he'd be dropped back into society as soon as the money runs out since we have no national healthcare system. (last part of that not meant to be a political statement, just a statement of fact) -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 11, 2011 -> 12:47 PM) Agree and disagree. My issue was the speed at which these issues were brought up (hours afterwards) which i still maintain were brought about purely as an opportunity to s*** on Palin even more. These issues should always be reviewed, and I get that this is a national tragedy with great exposure. But I don't want people going over the top with it. I don't want people to make extreme conclusions like "see this is why all guns should be illegal" or even worse "we should make some speech illegal." Why are we letting a crazy person dictate our lives like that? Eh i really don't think about stuff like this, the imaginary silence window where I can't say everything I want to say about people I don't know for an undetermined amount of time. I am the asshole, who 5 minutes after I found out Gaines Adams died, I was saying "holy s***, as if it wasn't enough of a wasted pick." Why not? It's true, I didn't know him, wasn't talking to anybody that knew him, and the only reason he's relevant to my life is that he played on my favorite football team. -

this entire debate is really dumb even by the hilariously low American political standards. What in the f*** would a right-winger be doing with the Communist Manifesto, and what would a left-winger be doing with Mein Kampf and Ayn Rand books? Rambling about mind control and brainwashing goes to which side of the spectrum, exactly? Attempting to squeeze this jackass into either side (that side being the opposite side of your side) makes you look like pure scum and a total hack/follower/sheep who shouldn't be taken seriously on anything and is incapable of critical thought. Also can we stop acting like this is the first time something like this has happened or it's just now starting to boil over... in the last years we've got the guy that shot up the women in the gym, the guy that murdered the Holocaust museum guard, the guy that did the suicide attack on the IRS building, the dude that shot the 3 cops in Pittsburgh (the other guys were just crazy or were white supremacists but this one really was a bats*** right-winger), and the attempted plot to assassinate Barack Obama and kill the 88 people or whatever the plot was. I left out MAJ Hassan's shooting incident since that was a straight up terrorist attack even if it was against a military target but hell you can include that one too if you want. -
Bogans is to Thibodeau what Wise and Kotsay were to Ozzie Guillen.

Tex, that comparison was an epic fail. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) It Appears that Ron Rivera will finally get a head coaching job (Carolina), adding yet another former Bear player to the NFL head coaching ranks. Good hire for them. Now they need someone to handle their offense. I read somewhere, not sure if it's true or not, that Rivera's first choice as OC is Ron Turner. If it's true that would be f***ing hilarious.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 04:05 PM) This thread should be closed for idiocy. It's shameful. I'm thinking about it. -
I usually get my suits from Macy's. Burlington's suits are pretty cheap and you can still get good quality for much less than Macy's though (actually, this applies to everything at Burlington)

Garza coming back + Williams moving inside to G really helped. Williams has been a pretty decent run blocker from what I've seen and Garza's always been good at it.

It's funny to me though, how many people have opinions about Cutler that want me to listen to them at length, but who obviously don't know much about him and/or have only seen him play in a couple of games
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Look man, I'm happy for you and all, but seriously, you think it is a good idea to be posting stuff like that that is designed to inflame people? It's great to cheer on your team, and you have every right to do it, but come on...no need to start with that stuff... no need, but if he does it anyway and gets flamed... /shrug

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:16 PM) I guess I'll be outnumbered here, but go Seahawks! I'm glad my team doesn't have to rely on Cutler. Do you Bears fans have faith in Cutler? If he is given enough protection, yes, absolutely.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) I agree. I would have preferred a rematch of the Pats/Ravens game from last year. Although maybe we will see that in the AFC Championship. I think divisional matchups in the playoffs are a yawnfest when they happen too often.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2011 -> 04:24 PM) Steelers/Ravens and Jets/Patriots rematches next week. 2 3-peat games. Boooooring.

slate had an article about this not too long ago that said the whole "no labels" thing was well-meaning, but stupid. There is no such thing as "no labels" and "appeal to moderation" is a logical fallacy (reference to logical fallacies - where's StrangeSox)

I didn't really wanna be "that guy" this early and I haven't made any comments to that effect, this whackjob is the one responsible for what he did and nobody else... but I mean seriously, things like "Second Amendment solutions" really don't help anything, there's just no place for it. -
