QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Gay bars exist because of straight people. If there wasn't the fear of being bludgeoned to death by accidentally "hitting on" a homophobic, gays wouldn't need their own bar. Not really. If I wanted to, say, meet black women, I'd probably want to go to a specific type of club/bar. If I wanted to meet Hispanic women I'd go to a salsa club. Etc. If I'm gay (and if there are no gay bars), let's say my odds are 1 in 10 that someone I run into in a bar of my gender is going to be gay... why would I go there than to somewhere else where the ratio is closer to 100%?

Good point on 4G, but when is that actually going to happen? that's going to confuse the hell out of everyone right now who thinks all this boosted 3G stuff they're advertising is actually 4G. Real 4G is going to be like an order of magnitude faster.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) The Senate has passed Start 3, by a 71-26 vote. That took waaaaaaaaaay too f***ing long.

Y2HH I see people saying that but I don't see myself giving up my wired connection here anytime soon. Will I be able to get speeds of 20 mpbs? If not then I'll stay with what I got.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 11:53 AM) It's just his opinion that he feels the gay community wants people to accept them and their lifestyle as more than "equal", and in some cases, he's right. If he wasn't touching on some sort of truth, something called a "gay bar" wouldn't exist. You can actually do a search in Google for "Gay Bars in Chicago", and it brings up a list, complete with map locations, phone numbers, reviews, etc. Do that same exact search for Hetrosexual Bars in Chicago, and you get no such list. I know...I know...all others bars are presumed to be heterosexual bars, right? It's just an opinion, calling him a bigot for it is a bit over the top IMO. Ha, I had a snarky response prepared but you pre-empted it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 08:40 AM) Actually, as I recall, DADT was an XO (from Clinton) that was then confirmed by Congress. I should probably go look that up, but that was my memory of it. I was in 7th grade or something but I remember it was a compromise (Clinton wanted to let gays in the military, back in the day it used to be a crime)

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 12:44 PM) Hasn't the military already established rules about workplace relationships? Yes. Pretty extensively.

The person who brought up that this isn't really that black and white had a point. The whole point about privacy, and living with/being naked in front of someone who's openly gay is a valid one IMO. You can't just tell someone "get over it." That said, that's why you have leadership make policies and iron things out (this is what DADT was in the first place, after Congress made the law). I think that, for the time being, gay servicemembers shouldn't go out of their way to "tell" and should be advised not from doing so. It's different in a communal shower with a closeted gay man and someone who's already known to be gay showering next to you. Of course *I* know that's not the point of a person being gay, that people aren't going to start suddenly getting raped in the shower, and people aren't just going to run to recruiting stations so they can see naked dudes, but that's how Private Joe Snuffy from the Bible Belt probably perceives it and these kinds of things do matter. So it should be something like "you can tell, and if you don't tell and we find out not a big deal, but don't press the issue or we'll have problems." Then you'd be disrupting the mission and you can be chaptered out on those grounds (not for being gay). I saw someone making a point about roommates and privacy but really I don't see how that's a whole lot different. I didn't walk around letting my roommate see my junk, and if my roommate was female and I made advances towards her there are already sexual harassment laws she could report me for. This wouldn't be that much different if someone of the same sex was coming onto you. Even before the change in policy it was possible to report someone of the same sex for sexual harassment/inappropriate advances. Still - better for the gay soldier to not openly flaunt their sexuality if it can be avoided.

Yes but that's a false equivalence, Democrats haven't been the ones holding up routine business in the past year, holding no appointments, linking unrelated bills and refusing to do anything else, voting against bills they support because the president isn't in their party, etc. (the entire concept of strategic arms reduction is Reagan's legacy, ironically)

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 07:59 PM) Rex Grossman? You're probably right lol. If Grossman could hit a f***ing slant in 2006 just a couple of times a game they wouldn't have blitzed him so much.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) All I'm arguing is this: WHAT NFL quarterback CANNOT make that throw? You could've argued last year, the throw he made to the back of the end zone, maybe 5 QBs in the NFL can make, but yeah, the slant to Harvin was a pretty routine play that I hope even Todd Collins could make (but Collins can't, because he sucks terribly)

You're lumping probably 15-20 different people in as the same person.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 06:15 PM) The people who are attacking Dilfer, Young and any other ESPN columnist with valid criticism are the same people who criticize Cutler. But since the Bears just won the game, injured Brett Favre, and won the division, the fans don't want to hear anything negative. 5 bucks says if the Bears do something positive and Dilfer and Young praise them, you guys will say "Too late ahats, we don't need no credit from you anyway" or "Now, you're jumping on the bandwagon, huh". I liken it to Adrian Woj and LeBron James. He tells it like it is. People take that as hate to LeBron when it's not. Then when Woj writes a positive article about LeBron then he's criticized for jumping on his coattails. Bears fans are also ridiculously bipolar about Cutler anyway although it's usually the same fans that are prone to overreact about s***.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Cutler has bad footwork and throwing mechanics. Those are valid criticisms. He threw an absolutely boneheaded INT last night. Valid criticism. But he also fit two balls into really small windows last night for TDs. The pass to Davis was a laser and I don't think many QBs in the league could make that throw. Young and Dildo only mentioned his bad throw for an INT and mentioned none of the good stuff. I don't have a problem with Dildo criticizing Cutler for the bad as long as he recognizes the good. I rarely, if ever, hear Dildo praise Cutler's positive plays. That annoys me. Last night right after the game ended I thought I heard him say "Cutler was brilliant" but that's about it. The rest of it was basically "why Jay Cutler will never amount to s*** as a QB in the NFL" (exaggerating, but only a little)
-
BTW Re: Cutler criticism, the thing with me is that Dilfer especially goes out of his way to criticize anything Cutler does. I'm not sure if anyone noticed but Cutler had a... umm pretty good game last night but they railed on his footwork for like 5 minutes. We know Cutler has s***ty mechanics, and yes that criticism specifically is valid, but he's in his 3rd offense in 3 seasons (is there even another QB in the NFL that's had this happen?) and for a large part of this year has carried the entire offense on his back (with some help from Forte). This offseason, when he's in his second season in the same system for once, he's going to have more time to work with Martz on his footwork. To me it's just really irritating, when the Bears lose a game Cutler blows and it's "I-told-you-so" from the same crowd whether it was his fault or not, when they win and he dominates the same crowd find specific reasons to not give him any credit. Most of it is just dumb. Cutler says he's concerned that players might get injured on a frozen field and someone writes a whole article about how he's not a leader. People talk about how many interceptions he throws when he's not even in the top(bottom) 10 in that category. Granted, to some degree this is expected, Aaron Rodgers was taking completely-undeserved s*** from people for absolutely no reason in his first year starting (who, btw, hasn't "won" any playoff games either). I manage to ignore this most of the time but it ends up in front of my face pretty often and me, and others, responding to it is what you see.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) I also liked when he was commenting on a Bears impressive drive "that started darn-near on their goal line....well, at the thirty or forty after the nice return, and have really taken it to this Vikings defense..." Meanwhile, the drive had started on the Bears 47 after the Daniel Manning kickoff return. Hahahaha I remember that I was thinking WTF? Did I miss something? Goal line? I KNOW I saw the ball pass the 40...

Life feed: http://www.wpbt2.org/stargazer/ It looks like a rusty, shiny penny. So dim you can almost not see the moon.

Is it cloudy in the Midwest? Clear skies on the East Coast.

If you're kind of an astronomy nerd, there's a full lunar eclipse happening right now. (1:49 am east coast time). It hasn't peaked yet. The shadow is moving across the moon pretty fast. Pretty cool.

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) I'm as much of a Bears fan as the next guy, but man...Gruden is sure sucking Cutler off tonight. Gruden is like that about all QBs though.
-
At least Trent said "I wish I had it." lol but Cutler's f***ing QB rating was over 100 again today. Not the kind of performance to criticize... his only bad throw was one he threw into the wind that lost its air

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) Best part is Bears fans still not giving credit to Lubbie. They don't deserve him. I reconciled this a couple of weeks ago. once they took away the asininity of him getting rid of people in favor of "his" guys and got real NFL assistants they started winning again.
-
BTW: the Vikings are Cutler's b****es. They have no answer for him.
-
What was the best part of this game? Blowing out the Vikings again, clinching the division and playoffs, Hester breaking the record, or getting rid of Favre once and for all?
