David Purcey has been on a decent run at AAA. Wonder if he could take Veal's spot sometime soon.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) It's kind of interesting and awesome that Johnson has done better, the higher he has moved up in the system. He was okay in Kanny, he was great in W-S, and now he is dominating in Birmingham. If he can be a solid 3-4 starter for the next five years, I'll take it. Maybe they get even a little more from him. But you got to like his frame. Hopefully he's Floyd with a brain.

  8. Twins/Marlins snowed out. This season is turning out to be awful for travel, and losing off days.
  9. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 22, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) If you have a bad veteran team making a lot of money, other teams don't trade anything decent for that player or assume their contracts. If the Sox want to unload guys, really good prospects aren't coming back and they will have to pay some of the contract anyway. They have been bad for 2 weeks. The freaking out is absurd. You can have a bad veteran team, and still have a couple good trading chips. I'm not saying all 25 guys on the team are bad. So if the Sox don't turn this around, come June or July if/when they know they can't win this season, yes, you trade Peavy and Rios if you get the right offers. You trade Floyd, Thornton and Crain to get them off the books. And as far as two weeks and freaking out....there is no freaking out. They just aren't good enough to win a division or a wildcard. They weren't good enough last year, or the year before, or the year before, or the year before that. This is a problem that is bigger than two weeks of bad baseball. They're trying to do the same thing over and over...field a mediocre team and hope to get career years. It's not happening.

http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?g...ox&sid=milb Johnson starting for Birmingham this afternoon.
  11. If you have a bad veteran team, you trade the veterans to get prospects and free the salary to sign new players or put it into the farm system. It doesn't matter what market you play in. That's what you do. Nobody is going to the games anyway. At some point, they're going to be forced to take their medicine and take a step back in order to move forward. Right now, the Sox are stuck in the mud. They can't move.
  12. Royals take two in Boston today. 10-7 record, while hitting 10 homers. They got 3 tonight.
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 07:42 PM) Maybe 80-89 wins will win the division again Tigers just finished a 9-game west coast trip. They went 4-5. Now they go home for 9-- KC, Atlanta, and Minnesota. Besides Porcello, the starting pitching has been great. And the bats went cold this week, which will turn around. I still think they win mid-90's, but I can't see them winning less than 88.
  14. Trumbo walk off. Angels sweep the Tigers.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 06:58 PM) Hawkins is a complete disaster right now. They need to start over with him. Move him to Kannapolis, and explain to him that the next 3-4 years of his career, he will be learning his craft of being a professional baseball player. Take one year at a time at each level, and come 2016-2017, he'll be 22-23 and possibly a very good major league player.
  16. Tigers/Angels, through 12 innings, 27 K's

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 20, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) Jerry Gergich's family is so f***ing hot... Eggs, bacon, and toast... Eggs, bacon, and toast...
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) Why? First month of his first year as GM, and he's got a turd of a team. Partly his fault, but mostly it's what he inherited.
  19. I actually feel bad for Rick Hahn...for now.
  20. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) OK maybe none then. Corey Kluber Wednesday. Again, rain may be a factor Tuesday.
  21. Rain Tuesday night, I'm thinking.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 04:01 PM) Masterson, McCallister and Myers......................one game maybe. Isn't Myers going on the DL?
  23. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 21, 2013 -> 03:56 PM) I love how we paid a career utility player, to be an everyday starter. They paid to get somebody in there, but 3 years/12 mil isn't going to kill them over the next few years. There's a certain Oaf I'm thinking of that's doing that job.
  24. Bad teams are bad. This is a bad team.
