QUOTE (J-MAN @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) I agree with all of the above! I love going to games and look forward to the first game of the season and walking into the stadium and taking in the atmosphere of being at a game. BUT the cost of going is becoming prohibitive. When you add in the ticket prices and now another ****ing parking increase I plan on cutting back even further. We went from being season ticket holders to just buying 10 games or so for this year and if prices increases continue - will probably buy even less next year! I will probablly use the money I save to buy an HDTV and better sports package! Ticket prices went DOWN.....and stubhub prices can be pretty cheap too. dont forget that you can tailgate with your parking pass. that can be a lot of cash saved by not paying ballpark prices for food and booze.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:37 AM) Personally, I don't think of 35th as being "Downtown", I think of it as being on the way out, but that's my NW Indiana perspective. i didnt say downtown. i said city. this law affects ALL pay lots in the city.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Really, wouldn't you say that a significant chunk of the cars coming in always come along the same path as the traffic rush, people leaving the city?...and perhaps even more important, the Sox pack the nearby surface streets with people and cars at that time, making them no longer useful routes for travel. Oh, and that also takes up a contingent of police and associated resources that could be used elsewhere too. subarbanites LEAVE the city during the afternoon rush hour. sox park is IN the city. and most games are typically at night. and as most cub weekday games are matinees, the traffic is typically during the off peak time of 1:20.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) I haven't parked at the ballpark in years, but it's still absolute bulls*** to charge 25 dollars for a parking space for a ballgame. That said, the price of parking won't be the reason I go to fewer games this year. United Center parking STARTS at $27. Bears Parking STARTS AT $35.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) That's not a comparable situation though. How about if the US goverment charged Apple an extra 10% tax on every Iphone4s they sold. Would you expect them to then raise the phone price 10% too? Because that is what happened here, the city of Chicago raised the tax 10% for the weekday games, and the Sox passed it on to the consumer so they don't have to lower their price. the sox elected to NOT increase parking on weekend games, where they get better overall attendance as well as more parking spots sold. take it for what it's worth.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) Of course, one plausible response to an increase in the fees the city charges would be to rebalance the cost you charge the consumer and perhaps pass only a portion of that fee increase on. Sox season ticket holders got a tiny break if they paid thier 2012 parking passes off in 2011. That was all my rep said they could have done to help STHs. The weekday parking at the cell/wrigley/uc is counter to typical rush hour traffic. i dont see rham-bo's logic for making the venues part of the tax aside from the fact that the sox have 7000 parking spaces, which means up to 14k a game in tax revenue.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Feb 26, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) Does anyone have information on that bus that operates from Oakbrook to the game? I could never find it but heard this bus exists. http://www.pacebus.com/sub/espd/us_cellular_express.asp

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Feb 25, 2012 -> 10:45 PM) $25 on weekdays, $23 on weekends http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/cws/ballpa...tent=tailgating JR beyond greedy IMO! OLD NEWS. And it's not Jerry's fault. Rahm-Bo the Mayor increased parking taxes on WEEKDAYS $2 for 2012 and on...this applies to ANY lot. Including the sports venues. United center parking is now $27 and $37 on a weeknight.

You guy realize that the mlb.tv broadcasts are simply webfeeds of games on tv, right? CSN-Chicago does not have a lot of sox games on thier schedule. But stations like YES broadcast the hell out of thier local teams.

Rumor? - Cubs deny consider playing at the Cell for 2013

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 12:14 PM) There is no arguing that it's a s***hole, but it's a s***hole I love. I don't think starting over from scratch would fly with Cub fans. A few years ago, the Trib printed some suggestions for renovation. I think most of the ideas were along the lines of "get rid of the concrete chunks that fall on people". The one that caught my eye was the retractable video screen- have it out for night games, keep it concealed for day games. If not, why not buy out or partner up with a rooftop owner to build a video screen? Purists get to keep the park untouched, and the people like like loud noises and colorful pictures get their wish as well. Anyone suggesting a Schaumburg or Arlington Heights move has either never been within 100 miles of Chicago, or is just trying to get a rise out of people. all ricketts needs to do is BUY one of the rooftops. then he can put up his jumbotron. and seein gas how 1/2 of teh rooftop owners are bleeding money, it's not inpossible to do that -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 16, 2012 -> 07:51 AM) I am pretty sure the shell at least is a registered National Historical site. Even a remodel is a big pain in the ass involving tons of extra permits and agencies. the marquee, bleacher wall(and ivy), and parts of the main entrance's exterior walls are landmarked. the grandstand is NOT. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) I respectfully disagree. I definitely think the Cubs could draw reasonably well at the Cell, and the problem with that is that if they were to outdraw the Sox in the Sox' own home, that's just the kind of negative publicity hit the Sox don't need. It would only add to the age-old story of White Sox attendance problems, and really call into question the allegiance of the Sox' fan base. I don't think any of us nor the Sox organization needs that kind of headache. it depends if ricketts give his season ticket holders "holiday" from thier commitment. the bears allowed their season ticket base a year off when they played in champaign, while selling season ticket plans for the champaign season only. In fact, illini students were allowed to buy DISCOUNTED st plans that season. if ricketts dosent force his ST holders to buy in on a season at the cell, then the PAID attendance will suck. but with a waiting list 10k strong, i think he will make them buy in. -

the comments on the article's page are all cubbie mouth breathers saying how they want to trash sox park. also, i suspect that the cubs wouldnt play ALL 81 games at the cell if they were to be without wrigley for a season. i could see them booking a few "home games" in STL or MIL against the cards and brewers. Like it was mentioned earlier in the thread, bossard would need a few days here and there to work his magic on the field. -

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 11:01 AM) This is probably a topic for another thread. But I really think that with the trend towards publicly financed stadiums (in all sports) and some markets with multiple teams, those teams should be forced to share the same stadium if its built with public money. Scheduling might be harder for MLB teams, but it works in LA (NBA) and NJ (NFL). they tried that in the 70's. it wasnt a hit. -

QUOTE (SpainSOXfan09 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 10:09 AM) I could imagine some fans on both sides may ultimately recommend a neutral venue such as Soldiers Field but the turf there is terrible and after a whole season of baseball it old be in worse condition. If the Sox can make moneyon this then why not? No rooftop game views like at Wrigley for that year. LOL Where's Soldiers Field? -
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) Wait, are lower reserved the ones that jut out between the upper deck and baseline seats? Like 5 rows deep? you might be referring to the club level.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 10:50 PM) Anyone pick up any game used merch? I have always been curious what that stuff went for at SoxFest. buehrle jerseys went for $1000. but there's no mlb holograms or other paperwork associated with the jerseys, so it may simply be team issued, and not game worn. the buehrle jersey in question was a 2011 cool-base road jersey. and since he has always had a hardon for the black jerseys, he may have never worn it on a day he pitched. the bats are a different story. most of the top guys are $150-$250. but most are broken bats.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 02:18 PM) 27 weekday plan. The 27 stands for the total RBI between Dunn, Rios, and Beckham. yeah, not much to "profit" from on that plan. overpriced red sox and yankees games hurt you more than anything. you can always just use them as exchange tix!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 12:31 PM) It's been like that the last few seasons. I haven't bought a ticket directly from the White Sox since the Blackout game. Depending on where you like to sit, working the group codes might be better. And it looks like the dynamic pricing system has been rejiggered to reflect that some section of the park are hard sells. Sec 156 and 108 are 8-11 dollars cheaper than the other seats in lower reserve for most for the tues-thurs games.... There are LOTS of ways to get in cheap without resorting to stubhuhb/secondary market .

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) I got to see so much baseball on both sides of town and Milwaukee last year because of Stubhub. Actually- Cub games were generally cheaper than Sox games. I recall getting most of the Cub seats for as little as $2, but no more than $5 (with convenience fee tacked on afterwards)- the exception being when the Phillies came $30ish IIRC). Sox tickets seemed to hover around $8-$10 right until the end of the year. I'm probably going to take 10 of the 27 games I have for Sox this year and list them. I'm skeptical they'll sell because I only have one seat. what plan do you have? i imagine you'll be able to sell the big games, just not for a very big profit. working off ebay and craigslist might get you better results.

But They do set aside tix for all the presales. Ticketbastard fees apply for Phone and Online orders. No fees at Sox Box Office. You can use an MLB.COM Gift Card on online orders, but NOT at the box office. White Sox gift cards can be used at the Box Office , but NOT online. Sox also accept Comiskey Cash for ticket sales at the Box Office. Vouchers are also good at the Sox Box Office. The Holiday Pack ticket vouchers are one example.

QUOTE (Julius @ Jan 28, 2012 -> 04:17 PM) Saw this "dynamic pricing" phrase in the pocket schedules. Is the opening bid for a ticket at $1 and then rises from there? it means that prices will go up based off demand. that the price in the schedule will not be the same as when you go to the box office. "buy now" to get the "better " rate. this program has failed 2 years in a row becuase the true market rate is stubhub. why pay the sox $41 for a bleacher seat on a saturday night in august, when you can get the seat next to it on stubhub for $25? look at this: http://www.stubhub.com/chicago-white-sox-t...reIdForTab=5645 There are ALREADY game dates with tickets under $6. The lowest a ticket can be at the box office is $7. the language for dynamic pricing suggests that steep discounts will exist to lure in buyers. i've only seen the prices go up. never down. of course, if you buy group tickets, those prices are set. same as a 7/14/27/81 game plan. this applies to individual box office prices.
