  1. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 25, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) yeah but those of us who grew up in Chicago have family members and loved ones that have been long suffering true Cubs fans. I dont want to see them heartbroken. I have friends and family, including my wife, that I'd like to see experience it too. But there is just something holding back that doesn't allow me to root for them and get excited when good things happen. I enjoy the baseball and watch neutrally, but something just keeps me from turning that corner. I wonder what that is, ha.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 11:02 PM) Apparently when they started the segment, they mentioned they weren't including the Sox because Cubs fans wouldn't be rooting for them. Whatever. Because all Cubs fans unequivocally root for the Blackhawks, Bulls, and Bears.
  3. A buddy of mine just bought $1,700 tickets for game 6 in Cleveland cause he thinks it's the clincher. That's a lot of f***ing money for a sporting event.
  4. There were some solid Bronx cheers when they did kill the penalties. They gave up two goals on the PK yet still improved their percentage on the season. Great game from Crawford tonight
  5. QUOTE (whitesoxjr27 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) I know some people on this board disagree with me but i think a world series loss for cubs fans will be worse then bartman. Getting that far and poof you are back to square one. I know grown men that broke down into tears at the game Saturday. Even if they get swept, it's still a pretty damn huge moment for the franchise. Oh, no matter what happens in the next 10 days, they will be the odds-on favorites to win the 2017 World Series.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 02:21 PM) I agree. They aren't that far. They are really injured at bad spots. Another draft and free agency period will do wonders IMO. Also need to know who the QB of 2017 and the future is. The NFL product is s*** right now though. They really don't have that far to get. Who is good in the NFL right now? Even the good teams have glaring weaknesses. Exactly. The Patriots are awesome every season, but other than that it just seems like there is a big blog of "good" teams and bad teams with not a whole lot of separation.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2016 -> 07:06 AM) True. I just hope the talent gels this year soon enough for them to make a run. At least you know the PK can't get any worse. Currently at 42.9%. I looked it up, the worst season on record was the 79-80 Kings, who killed 67.70% of penalties, and that was a completely different era too.
  8. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 05:57 PM) Ettiquette question: I ordered sushi tonite and picked it up, and I did not tip when I picked up. The hostess gave me serious attitude about it, and it definitely left an impression. Should I have tipped? When I used to deliver pizza, people would pick up pizzas and I would cash them out, and I never got nor expected a tip. Is it different with picking up sushi? I'm generally a good tipper, I just learned that this was not a tip situation, at least with pizza I'm with you, I never tip when picking up carry-out food.
  9. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 07:35 PM) Great, the Tigers are just as bad as the Sox. That doesn't help me, or any of us. Averaged 87 wins a year and 3 playoff appearances. How is that bad? Both strategies can work but the owner and the front office have to be on the same page. And good at their job.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 07:02 PM) Yeah, that's true. The Indians are sort of gravy at this point. Not that the Indians don't have their own history and storyline, but you are absolutely right. The Indians are playing second fiddle not only to the Cubs, but the Cavs as well. And Game 1 is the same night as the Cavs opening night and ring ceremony right down the street.
  11. QUOTE (Tony @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 06:27 PM) Has this been talked about? Since Theo took over in 2012, the Cubs record is 400-409 (without playoff record). This is obviously including the full rebuild they went through, including a 101 loss season, and a 96 loss season. They told fans this was a 5 year process, and things would be rough early on. During that same stretch, the Sox are 375-435, and have tried to "go for it" every year. Just some food for thought. What was the Tigers record during that 5 year stretch? They "go for it" every year too.
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 06:51 PM) I'd be pissed if I were a Tribe fan. Even though they have one of the longest droughts in baseball history it's going to be Cubs this and Cubs that throughout the entire series. Straight up Cubs overload. And LeBron took away the storyline of the city's long futility too.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2016 -> 09:32 AM) Nice comeback to get 2 points. It's very early but six points in six games sounds a heck of a lot better than four points.
  14. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 07:26 PM) Really nice crowd tonight considering the circumstances. Hawks win after being down 2 with 2:30 left. I wonder how many fans stayed given the circumstances
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) It's gonna be awkward when Blanton is in the Cubs locker room drinking champagne after the game Haha. So true though, the two games the Dodgers could have won turned on Homers vs Blanton.
  16. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) The only team that can stop this decade for being rough for us is the White Sox. Just follow the Cubs blueprint. Find a new owner who gives a top baseball mind a truckload of money and stays the hell out of his way. Easy enough, right?
  17. Game 1 Tuesday night in Ohio. One of the two longest championship droughts in baseball will end.
  18. QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Oct 22, 2016 -> 08:15 PM) He just ran into a buzzsaw tonight man. The Cubs offense woke up big time after game 3. If the Cubs offense is on its game no pitcher in the world has a chance against them. He is definitely off though, missing his spots. This is not vintage Kershaw.
  19. Kershaw has done so much to kill his "un-clutch" reputation this postseason, and he is just ruining it all tonight.
  20. Jeff George Jr. played against Tyrone Wheatley Jr. today. Wow, I'm old. Illinois covered the spread, progress!
  21. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 21, 2016 -> 12:11 AM) Did Floyd get hurt again late in the game? Brad Biggs column today said they took him out late just because he hadn't been playing a lot, nothing about an injury.
  22. Cause Eric Hosmer was a legit MVP candidate, right?
  23. Standard weekend of a kids birthday party and a playdate during the day. Then watch my wife go crazy over the Cubs at night Saturday and Sunday, if necessary. Exciting!
  24. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 11:53 PM) Kershaw and Hill on full rest > Kershaw and Hill on short rest Everyone seems to assume that Kershaw on short rest is a guaranteed 7 inning shut out. No way, even he can struggle a bit, especially when he's not fully rested. This way they have their two best starters going, fully rested and ready to roll. Not much else to ask for, especially with all their offensive struggles. The game yesterday was 3-1 after 7 innings, Kershaw probably would have left with a similar result. Then they forgot how to play fundamental baseball. Roberts maybe could have brought in Jansen before the wheels completely off in the 8th.
  25. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Oct 20, 2016 -> 09:30 PM) Play for #1 pick now season in the toilet anyway. The #2 pick at least. It's Cleveland's sports year, no chance they give up the #1 pick.
