  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:29 PM) Do you think Quintana watches games like this and just feels sad? Maybe a little bit. But then he gets back to the hotel, jumps in a huge pile of money on his hotel bed and says "f*** it! They'll score some runs next time"
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) The end of AJ's career is gonna be so many different teams. He should take good notes and write a couple books about baseball when he finishes. He's going to experience the way a lot of different franchises do things. If he wants to keep playing, he figures to have a few more stops besides St. Looie. Not if he keeps hitting the way he did in Boston. His defense isn't exactly stellar, his above average offense for a catcher is what kept him around.
  3. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 08:22 PM) AJP to STL I thought that would have happened earlier instead of giving George Kottaras a try.
  4. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 03:45 PM) I think what people feel is that he's one of the biggest busts relative to what we thought we had. That's a great point. Given the Sox ability to be consistently mediocre, from 1991-2007, their highest draft pick was #12 (twice). Then 2007 happened and they got the 8th pick in '08 and drafted Beckham. Within a calendar year he is up in the majors hitting well with a .800+ OPS. Then you never see that Beckham again, that definitely makes it tougher. Had he never made it to the majors, people might have been a bit less disappointed in him, because your hopes never got crushed.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 01:55 PM) Just another guy teams sign and ultimately want to get rid of to save the money. Here's a helpful hint: DONT SIGN THEM TO THESE TYPE CONTRACTS IN THE FIRST PLACE! Damn, I wish baseball had the same system as football. Most baseball players would be out on their butts two years after signing their mega deals. Teams almost always regret the deals shortly after the player signs them. How the hell did the NFL pull that off with its players union? Wow. Says the guy who demands that Jerry spends, spends, spends, "It's not my money!"
  6. 4 Garth Brooks shows sold out in about 10 seconds today. It reminded me of trying to buy Sox ALCS & WS tickets in '05.
  7. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 09:32 AM) My wife stole my Sox jersey and had our wedding photographer take saucy pictures of her in it I'm in the wrong profession
  8. They officially moved Howard into a platoon with Darin Ruf, but the problem is Howard can't even hit RHP this year. In 280 ABs, he is at .229/.314/.368 vs. RHP.
  9. Kendrys Morales: .234/.259/.325 - .584 Corey Hart: .214/.295/.332 - .627 Logan Morrison: .209/.265/.346 - .611 Justin Smoak: .208/.279/.352 - .630
  10. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:16 PM) You mean only 5 games under .500. Believing is foolish. Please deal someone. All we need to do is get to 83 wins: http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/STL/2006.shtml Believe!!!!
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 25, 2014 -> 12:25 AM) Seems weird seeing this. He's so good now why mess with his body? Given his ankle injury, losing some weight can only help with that in the future. And just because he loses weight, doesn't mean he's not getting stronger or quicker. These are professionals.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 06:29 PM) How is Soriano there? Maybe Brant Brown, Brett Jackson, Jerome Walton or Dwight Smith. You could also add Kevin Orie and Gary Scott at 3B. Dunston didn't live up to his billing, but he was a fine MLB SS, if an inconsistent offensive contributor. Nobody had a better arm for that position in my memory. Geo Soto completely imploded. Well you need some veteran leadership in that lineup full of youngsters. And Dunston was the man, Wrigley is just a better place with the Shawon-O-Meter.
  13. C Todd Hundley 1B Hee Sop Choi 2b Bobby Hill SS Shawn Dunston 3B Josh Vitters RF Felix Pie CF Corey Patterson LF Alfonso Soriano
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:36 PM) Yeah, well, if we want it to be the National Morality Football League, then we can just sign up the guys on the straight & narrow. But that's not what they want. They want it to include the best athletes on earth. Sometimes, those guys aren't always the best people. Yet they ran a guy out the league for bullying.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) Ok, of course you guys are now going to bust out like every different situation. The point is, the law punishes people for illegal acts. Obviously, some of these acts make continued employment a bit more difficult than others. What I don't think we want, is employers deciding to double-up or piggyback off of the penalties, fines, etc., that the legal system is already dishing out. Take people with s***ty credit, for instance. Some employers are now running credit checks just like they've traditionally run background checks. For people getting into jobs where they are making decisions over vast sums of money, yes, I can see how this is relevant. But for most jobs? Not particularly relevant. Anyways, I guess my point is that I understand why some of the fines for off the field incidents are not as stiff as some of those that affect the integrity of the game itself or of performance, despite being morally more offensive. We aren't talking about other jobs though, every job has its own criteria and function and should be treated differently. This is a huge billion dollar league that the entire country watches, kids, adults, everybody. It might be the most popular entertainment source in the country. They have an opportunity to make a bit of a moral stand and instead you have a coach happy that "kids will now learn that actions have consequences." Gimme a break.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) If you beat your wife, does your employer suspend you or take part of your pay check? Hypothetically, let's say you were to beat your wife in a Vegas hotel elevator and have the incident recorded on camera. Then every Vegas TV station got a hold of it, played it over and over again, while mentioning your name and your employer. Would your employer take punishment out on you? If not, you got a hell of a job.
  17. Ray Rice suspended ftwo games for slugging his fiancee. About two games less than if you smoke weed. Way to go NFL. At least he's not a "distraction" to his team.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 04:27 PM) To me, a monster trade of Baez and others (Almora, Vogelbach, P. Johnson) for David Price makes a lot of sense for both teams. Price has hinted he'd be interested in pitching for the Cubs, so an extension might work out. The consensus seems to be that they would rather throw big money at a FA pitcher like Lester or Price if available, as opposed to trading prospects and then having to sign a big money extension.
  19. I always kind of thought that Quintana was a bit of a fluke and kept waiting for him to return to the norm. It turns out, this is the norm! Hell of a pickup by the Sox, it would be fun to make the playoffs and have Sale & Q as your first two pitchers.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 21, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) The lack of parity in La Liga is kind of lame. At least EPL fluctuates a bit. Athletico winning La Liga last year was good for parity, but let's not kid ourselves that anyone else has a chance outside of Real, Athletico, or Barcelona. It's not that different in other countries either. Bayern, Juventus, Ajax, PSG all dominate. The EPL has the advantage that multiple teams have giant budgets, so there is enough high priced talent through out that a bunch of teams could win.
  21. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 09:22 PM) I like watching this team but I can't stomach watching cy Chen dominate us again. I will forever have nightmares about the game in September 2012. Bases loaded early in the game, Viciedo batting when he was killing lefties, it was the perfect matchup to blow the game open. He swings early, pops it up, and the rest of the season was history.
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 07:10 PM) Arriving late Sunday afternoon and leaving late Wednesday morning. Don't care for the heat and humidity. Like a place with some good drinks but nothing too loud. The point is to get away from the noise of the 6 and 4 year olds for a few days. We're both poker players so the casinos are always a backup option but my wife has never been to STL and I haven't been since I was 10 so we'd like to know what is cool to see. Historic sites generally interest us. It was my bachelor party so the memories are hazy, but there was a very nice casino in downtown STL we went to, way fancier than you would expect in the Midwest. That's all I got though, not many historic sites that weekend.
  23. Can you e-mail someone from the team to ask about it? As long as you don't come off like Robert De Niro in The Fan, maybe they will tell you. I know in the Bears yearbook every year it lists which hotel they will be staying at for each away game. It's obviously different with all the travel in baseball, but just a thought.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2014 -> 04:21 PM) JERMAINE DYE Damnit. There was a 99.99999% chance you wouldn't guess him, but my bad luck.
