  1. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 08:57 AM) Good thing Tanaka's wifes LA pop career figured in so much to this. And the close travel to Japan When you are already flying 10+ hours, what's an extra 2 or 3? And New York City isn't exactly a no-mans land for entertainers.
  2. That would not have been a good contract for the Sox, so the Yankees can have him.

    Alright begin

Perhaps no news is good news?
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:52 AM) According to this thread teams can continue changing their offer and negotiating until he signs. That's what I gathered, but it's hard to get through all the high schooler tweets and My Little Pony discussions. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) Tanaka is like any other free agent right now. The team that signs just has to pay the $20 million posting fee. Contract negoitations can still be on going. Teams did not have to put in blind bids or anything like that. Thanks. I originally understood it differently, but that makes sense. Technically, a mystery team could still sneak in and blow him out the water with a big deal, as long as they bid the original refundable posting fee.
  5. Can teams still change their contract offers or are they set in stone from when you bid on him? Is it just posturing now or can there be contract negotiation still going on right now?
  6. So far in conference play, Missouri is 2-3, Oregon is 1-4, and UNLV is 2-3. I thought Illinois played over their head in non conference play, but I guess their opponents just weren't as good as advertised.
  7. Hell of a match by Radwanska taking out Azarenka, some big time shots. Federer up two sets to one over Murray with an epic 2nd game going on, up to 26 points.
  8. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) I see Murray handling Federer pretty well setting up a Nadal/Murray semi and Wawrinka/Berdych should be a great matchup too. Both those guys can easy beat whoever they face in Nadal/Murray/Federer. Murray doesn't seem to be 100%yet from his back injury, so I think Federer should give him a match.
  9. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:57 PM) Thanks, read them all. Much appreciated. Same. Thanks rabbit
  10. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) Maybe they turned them down, but how did Kyle Long make the pro bowl team over Josh Sitton or over a lot of other players? Big city media bias, duh.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Giving obviously dumb students an A average seems highly unlikely. You can inflate by a half grade or so but giving D students an A seems like there would be some big time investigations. Not if it's Conor Smith III whose family donated $500k, right?
  12. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) If he was such an awful student and couldn't make grades, wouldn't they just ensure he got his C average? Why bump it up to 3.7? If he's that dumb, it would look odd that his grades were outstanding. Maybe, but like I said, I'm not arguing against his intelligence. You posted that rich donors would get all the grade inflation, not any kids from Compton. Not only does the football program matter financially, but like Badger said it does a university no good if every poor kid from Compton gets a C average, they want them to succeed. They aren't just ignoring all those kids and only helping the rich ones.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:13 PM) That's probably for students like Conor Smith III, whose parents donated $500K to the school not some dude from Compton. Making the Rose Bowl earns the university more money than Conor Smith's family does, so he's more than just "some dude from Compton". I'm not even arguing against his intelligence, cause I really don't care, but don't act like nobody at Stanford had any interest in him succeeding academically.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Right. Outside in Dallas or Arizona or Tampa At the Rose Bowl, every year.
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Driver and Brakeman are the real skill folks here. In the fourman, the pushers are the athletes. Herschel Walker did this. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Yeah, and the girl who was next in line behind Williams and Jones only took up the sport after the 2010 Olympics. They basically try to recruit athletes from other sports for the push athletes. Thanks for the insight, good to know for the next month. Then I'm sure I will forget until the 2018 Games.
  16. Interesting read about how quiet the Super Bowl crowd is every year http://mobile.nytimes.com/2014/01/21/sport...1&referrer=
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 11:53 AM) And I don't see anyone stopping the Broncos offense. That offense is like something they have not seen before. No disrespect to the Saints, but the Broncos' offense is incredibly well balanced and versatile. And don't sell the Broncos' defense short. They held LaGarrette Blount - a guy who put up 166 yards and 4 TDs the week before - to 6 yards. Their rush defense is legit and they hit hard too. I think it'll be a good game. My prediction is 28-17 Broncos. And both Saints games were in Seattle, the Saints are a completely different offense on the road. Brees's home QB rating was 126.3, but on the road it was 84.8. There is not another good throwing QB in the NFC West other than Wilson, their schedule was a bit light on good QBs, nothing like the Broncos passing offense. I think it all comes down to weather. If it's not too windy or cold, Manning will have his way in the end. But if the conditions aren't the best, Seattle will hang with them all the way.
  18. Any dislike I had for LeBron in the past is all but gone. I would still root against the Heat, but he's become very likeable.
  19. I would love to see the rugby try rules implemented, where you kick from where you scored. If it's in the middle of the end zone, it's a straight shot. But if you score near the sideline, then you have to kick from the weird angle.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:59 AM) At this point, does anyone here REALLY want the Chicago White Sox to spend like $25 million per season on a Japanese import whose k/9 went way down and bb/9 went way up over the last two years? And a guy who has been overworked more than a Cub under Dusty Baker?
  21. Although if the extra point is abolished, this craziness would never happen again.
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 07:23 AM) The NFL is thinking of eliminating the extra point. It makes sense, they are so automatic nowadays, just waste of time and potential for injury. It will be interesting how they still incoporate 2-point conversions though. Touchdowns are worth 7 points, unless you go for two, then they are worth 6 points?
  23. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:05 AM) Hold on to your butts: @TyYoungfelt: Currently Thursday, 7:30pm in Japan- have been told word will come in no later than 9p Friday in Japan or 6p tonight stateside...here we go Right when Hahn goes on CTL and announces he's bringing his talents to the South Side That makes zero sense. It's Tuesday in Japan, not Thursday. And Friday night in Japan as opposed to 6PM tonight stateside are two days apart.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 12:13 PM) Yeah, even if I had the chance to go I would have absolutely no interest in going to Sochi with all this stuff going on. In Olympic sports news Lauryn Williams and Lolo Jones both made the USA bobsled team so they will be only the 9th and 10th Americans to compete in the Summer and Winter Olympics. That has to suck for the lifetime professional bobsledders. You spend your whole life practicing dreaming of the Olympic team and you think you are the best until suddenly these track stars show up and take your spot in the Games.
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 07:44 AM) This thread is HILARIOUS. Tweet about any team not the White Sox or the White Sox not being a real candidate = HOW WOULD THIS GUY KNOW HE'S NOT CREDIBLE EVERY TWEET IS A FARCE Tweet about the White Sox still being involved = THIS IS GREAT THAT GUY'S CREDIBLE LIKE I SAID SOX ARE STILL IN THIS Here's the reality. Masahiro Tanaka is sitting in a Japanese mansion with his wife on his face and three hotties working on his dong. When he comes up for air, only his agent and the four hotties have any idea what they're going to do. Anything posted by some douchebag in bumf*** wherever America is clearly a clueless one. We'll find out soon, possibly as soon as today (but more likely tomorrow). Everyone calm their tits. Anyone else find it weird that his agent is chilling in the room while everyone else is getting busy? Maybe it's a Japanese thing?
