  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 01:52 PM) That's all context neutral though. They also blew like a million saves too, Honestly, with a bit of luck, I think most teams are 85-90 win teams. Just for demonstration's sake though, 74 + 5 is 79, plus Braun's additional 2, plus a 4 WAR season from Garza and you're looking at an 85 context-neutral win team. The last couple years I think the Brewers have had some horrendous bullpen work with just some crushing blown saves. Shore that up, their rotation is Gallardo, Garza, Lohse, Wily Peralta, and Marco Estrada. Nothing over powering, but if the last two guys keep improving, contending for the wild card isn't out of the question.
  2. Mike Pettine has been fired by the Browns for not making the playoffs yet.
  3. Being a top RBI man from the 9th spot is like leading a team in 6th inning holds.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 01:00 PM) Maddux is going in without a logo, as is Tony La Russa. So basically the Cubs and Braves can both claim Maddux as their own Hall of Famer. That's silly.
  5. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:28 PM) I'm glad it's going to be in cold weather - why can you play in NY/Chicago/Green Bay/etc. one weekend but not two weeks later? It is much more exciting to see people play in "bad" weather Yeah, why is it OK to play an NFC Championship game in 0 degree weather but the Super Bowl has to be ideal conditions?
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Lol, yes. How old is your daughter? My son is 18 months. Old enough to know that the coat, hat and gloves can be taken off with relative ease. Such a pain in the ass. Though I will say he cracks me up whenever he steps in snow. His mind is blown away that the ground below him sinks in and sticks to his shoes. We've played the game about 50 times this winter and it's still hilarious to watch. She just turned one a few weeks ago. She has been walking for well over a month, but she's still a bit iffy with shoes on, so she hasn't walked in the snow yet, would probably just fall and disappear in a snow pile. She absolutely refuses to wear anything on her head, so the winter hat is always a battle. The only way it stays on is if her hands are in her mittens, rendering her fingers useless.
  7. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Sounds like Garza to the Brewers for 4 years $52 million. Balfour is also signing with the Rays. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ That actually sounds like a pretty good deal for the Brew Crew IMO.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) A Super Bowl on Saturday would be sweet though. Every year I wish they would just have the game on a Saturday night. Think of what it would do to American productivity on the following Monday! I guess it's better than the NCAA and their Monday night championship games.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 10:07 AM) This is the first year that I've thought enough is enough. Normally I love winter. I like the look of snow. I like to drive in snow. I prefer 30 degree weather over 90. Maybe i'm getting older now, I dunno. But it's no longer fun. Walking to/from the union station to get to work is downright painful. Agreed 100%. Having a young kid has made it even tougher to handle. Being cooped in the house all the time sucks, can't even take her outside for a walk. Just going to the store becomes an extra hassle with all the extra warm clothes and everything.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) How can I forget all of the posters fantasizing we'd get Polanco, Kingham or Hansen from the pirates . Or all the Cardinals rumor threads where the Sox were getting Martinez, Wong, & Adams.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 09:06 AM) He got a $500k raise to go there. He wasn't getting that in Chicago. Are you sure about that? Emery's salary with Philly is $1.65 million. Khabi got $1.7 million from the Hawks, I would think they were willing to give Emery something similar. I thought his decision was all about having a chance to earn a starting job and showcase for a big payday this offseason.
  12. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 08:17 AM) Has goaltending been an issue this season? Why can't Ranta gets some playing time much like Emery did last season? It's been a combination of shoddy defense and mediocre goaltending at times. Crawford missed nearly all of December, so Raanta got 12 straight starts then. Now they are getting Crawford going again, and there's a 3 week break coming up, so I don't think fatigue is a big worry right now. Speaking of Emery, I bet he's regretting the decision to choose Philly over Chicago now. Mason has won the #1 job and Emery suddenly doesn't look so good without the Stanley Cup champs in front of him.
  13. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Radwanska total opposite match in the semi, gets shutdown by Cibulkova. Disappointing. Yeah that sucked. Everytime Radwanska would go left, Cibulkova would crush it right. Like you said, exact opposite of the Azarenka match. Then it just looked like she gave up near the end.
  14. Looking like another 36+ hour stretch of negative temps next Mon- Wed. Even the best summer city in the world makes it hard to justify this winter
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:31 PM) It's a smart move. You really can't prove he was being sarcastic and he can make a case he was just trying to shake Crabtree's hand. Exactly. My final take from all this is that a communications major from Stanford turned out to be a marketing genius. Go figure. He knows what he's doing every step of the way.
  16. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:11 PM) He sounds like it. Granted, I would have acted the same way Crabtree did. Of course he sounds like it, he is an expert in s*** talking. It was barely 5 seconds after Crabtree's dreams were crushed, that's not the time to go show respect. The two guys obviously dislike each other and talked s*** all game, Sherman made sure he got the final jab in.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) You didn't watch the video did you? Wait, you actually think Sherman was being sincere?

    Alright begin

Very much hate Detroit. And shootouts.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) According to this site, his taxes based on his average yearly salary (22.143M), would be: NY: 1.941M CA: 2.230M IL: 664K I may be wrong, but I think he only pays that state's income tax for his home games. For road games, he pays state income tax for the state that game is in.
  20. Dual toilets in Sochi!!!! http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-25830617
  21. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 08:38 AM) This Pro Bowl draft is just awful. What a terrible idea. As awful as the Pro Bowl is, I believe last year's game had higher ratings than Game 1 of the 2012 World Series.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:04 AM) Like they are content with Arod's contract? It did win them a World Series, they wouldn't give that up.
