QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) Seriously? You're not making that up? http://mweb.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-h...ra-over-2-years -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 06:55 PM) Manziel is going to have to become a lot more judicious with his throws if he wants to make it in the NFL. It seems like all his "best" throws this year are just jump balls to 6'5" Mike Evans. Maybe the Lions should draft him for Megatron?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Sounds like he's likelier to end up in Seattle. I'm guessing 1 year, $12 mill. How about 2 years, $35 million to stay in San Fran. Seems a bit pricey to me, unless the Tim of a few years back returns. -
Grantland had a great piece today on the demise of the Bears defense. http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle...o-bears-defense

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 05:48 PM) The plan was to focus all the attention on the offense, and not do anything to fix the defense because it wasn't broken, and do as little as possible to rock the boat. Tucker was a caretaker DC. The gamble completely fell apart for whatever reason (it's not his fault he lost his 2 best tackles, and his best lineman turned into a regular DE). Conte and Wright were competent safeties last year though, decent even. I put that on the coaching. Conte and Wright were competent safeties last year because there was a pass rush. This year Peppers is old, DTs are injured, McCllelin is still bad and suddenly the Bears safeties are being exposed. It's not on coaching IMO.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) Oh can we please PED the hell out of our defense? I know it's wrong but it's not fair we have to watch this crap. It would only make us league average. Somebody get the Seahawks doctors on the phone.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) He also plays 3B/LF. What? He played 43 innings in LF in 2007. That's it. Zero innings at 3rd.

QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 03:33 PM) Platoons rarely yield successful numbers. Oakland and Tampa disagree

QUOTE (SexiAlexei @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) If you're letting Cutler go, Marshall is out the door too. You can count on that. Or if he is still under contract, prepare for the major diva act.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 02:36 PM) I still like what I do, I just don't like not getting paid what I thought I'd be paid, on top of having to pay a s*** ton in loans. It doesn't help that I have a friend who made 150k+/year, paid off her loans in like 6 months, quit after a few years, and traveled the world for a year with her husband. Instead of working so hard at law school, it sounds like you should have spent the effort on wooing your friend!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) They have Peralta's replacement for next year covered. Question is, will the boost in defense make up for the major drop in offense?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) I think he probably wants whatever flavor candy he can get, at any time he wants it As long as his brother says its OK.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 11:21 AM) In addition, I'm guessing Abreu will be a big theme of Spring training and will make the evening news sports segments covering that. Go you, common sox fan, go you. For the 10 seconds that the Sox make the evening news.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 09:07 AM) Weren't they only wearing those uniforms in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the '83 team? My guess would be they don't wear them next year. IMO they should wear the '83 jerseys every game.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) How many? UConn has 15+ NFL players despite being a fairly poor football school. According to ESPN, UConn has 17, Illinois has 24. With the sheer amount of players in the NFL, every school is bound to have several, so I'm probably overexaggerating a bit. But it still just amazes me how many Illini players are in the league. One Rose Bowl and two 6-6 seasons in the past 10 years? And several 0-8 B1G seasons. I think it was after the 2012 draft, but they said that only USC & Alabama had more 1st round picks than Illinois over the past 5 or so years. ZOOKER! -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) Freeman just looks brutal. I really believed he was going to be one of the good young quarterbacks about halfway through last year. Not sure why Leslie Frazier had him throw so damn much. That was Ravens-esque, ignoring the semi-decent running back in the backfield.

After watching the primetime NFL games, is there another bad college football program with as many NFL players as Illinois? -
QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 08:02 PM) I always thought White Sox fans loved the Cardinals due to our hatred of the Cubs. I used to feel that way. Now I don't know if Cardinals fans have just become more vocal, but I've come to realize how awful they are and I can't handle it. I have much less exposure to Boston fans if I keep ESPN off, so they bother me less. After the NLDS, a college buddy of mine wrote an entire Facebook post blaming the Pirates lack of success on the fanbase. He said that if only the fans had shown up more and cared as much as Cardinals fans did, then the team wouldn't have been so bad the last 20+ years. Really?

I'm really perplexed that people think Jim Leyland was a good manager the last few years.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 05:04 PM) I'm not so sure of regular fans ignorance. I remember being surprised how pumped fans were for Iguchi. Regular fans pick up on what hardcore fans are talking about. And hardcore fans are going to be talking about Abreu a lot. Maybe I am selling regular fans short, but it's still not going to put butts in the seats either way. Sox fans have always shown that winning is the only way to get them to show up and sometimes even that doesn't work.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Go to McDonalds and see how many workers have smartphones. I would bet most of them under the age of 35 do.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) The balls were crisp and right on the numbers though, which is more than I can remember from a Bears' backup in a long time. I thought he looked great, and I have confidence that he will continue to play well. I won't have confidence until I see him do it against a defense that doesn't give up 30+ points per game and has a week to gameplan for him.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 21, 2013 -> 12:42 PM) So you eliminate loopholes that allow people to pay much lower than they should. Many people on both sides of the aisle wold go for that. But there is no reason anyone should ever have to pay more than half what they make to the government, no matter how much they make. I depend on those "loopholes".
