QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Jimenez, Garza, Johnson anyone you think will be a solid contributer. If you believe Danks takes another step forward after surgery maybe he or Santiago takes Quintana's spot in the rotation. Ubaldo and Garza are not gonna be worth the large contracts they get and Johnson is a major injury concern. If Danks or Santiago step up, there is still a hole in the rotation to fill. If you sign a cheap vet, they won't be around when those Cubs prospects are ready for the majors anyway. Then you still haven't replaced Q.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) You would not be in favor of a move like that? I could be convinced. Name a free agent almost as good as Quintana that wouldn't require a major overpay.

"Big Game" Jake with another chance to redeem himself tonight. Luckily for him the Tigers are gone.

Boardwalk Empire is killing it so far in this season, such a great show. Narcisse is such a solid villain.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) What would make a lot of scouts fly to Chicago? To connect to another city. Teams are going cheap and forcing scouts to make connections instead of flying non-stop. -

Love that teams now run the shotgun victory formation because Schiano is such an asshat. Just fire him already.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 09:42 AM) Any other team in the country facing 4 teams in a row coming off a bye week? Jeez Poor OSU. Everyone is out to get them, AGAIN. First a home game against unranked Iowa, then the offensive juggernaut Penn State, and both off a bye week?????? How can they ever handle such a daunting schedule? -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 04:06 PM) You are aware that reliever usage has steadily increased over the years, right? That hundreds of managers had been letting their pitchers pitch even deeper into games than Ozzie Guillen for DECADES? That even IF Ozzie Guillen had actually been doing something different than his contemporaries by "boldly" letting his starters flirt with 120 pitches, it would be a call back to the norms that had dominated baseball for OVER ONE HUNDRED YEARS, thus representing something similar to the absolute antithesis of the word "revolutionary"? Grady Little used that "revolutionary" strategy in the 2003 ALCS and barely made it out of Boston alive.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 01:09 PM) The kid from the Cards minor leagues who posted a pic of Lester with a substance in his glove has deleted his posts about it. Media consensus seems to be that a lot of pitchers are up to little tricks, so better not to tattle unless you want them checking your guys.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 24, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) An interesting question that I was pondering as I too had those first world problems shack had(couldn't sleep)..... If San Fran came along and offered the Sox Sandoval for Q and a much lesser prospect which would you guys rather do? Sandoval/lesser prospect or Lawrie and the 20th overall prospect? I'm kinda torn here. While Sandoval has been the better, more consistent hitter overall, Lawrie might have the higher upside but is much less of a sure thing. Does the potential of a potential front end of the rotation starter a year or 2 down the line push you to take the risk on Lawrie, or with this offense the way it is now make you disregard the high end prospect for the more sure thing offensively? What says you? You get Sandoval for one year, have to pay him $8.25 million in 2014, then he becomes a free agent. If you do extend him for big money you obviously have to worry about weight issues. Lawrie is under team control for the next four seasons, and in 2014 is only due a small raise from his $500k salary. Considering where the Sox are at, it's a no brainer. A team like Detroit might look at it differently (if they needed a 3b hypothetically)

It's pretty neat following BMac's analysis of these playoff games, coming from an active pitcher.

One team had the 4th highest payroll in baseball, the other was just out of the top 10 at about $115 million

DeAngelo Williams, Joseph Randle, or Pierre Thomas? I like Randle, but Dunbar is playing and Murray sounds 50/50 like he might play. PT is hit or miss with all the weapons there. Stupid Thursday night game, I have to decide by then with Williams. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 07:56 AM) Frank Thomas or Paul Konerko. They were really good hitters. Barry Bonds put up the best OBP in history. He should be able to teach Viciedo to take walks in no time. -

NOT Frank Thomas or Paul Konerko. Let's stop the nonsense before it starts.
