  1. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Cutler not so subtly threw Tice under the bus while praising Trestman. He didn't respect Tice, it was clear, and I don't blame him really. Why should he? I don't remember exactly what he said, but Marshall said something similar recently too that seemed like a jab at the past coaching staff.
  2. Bruce Arthur ‏@bruce_arthur Jonathan Toews, on the disappointment of not repeating in 2011: "Mostly I was glad that Vancouver didn't win."
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) And then Hoss and Sharp dominate. Kane was a non-factor for 2.5 rounds of the playoffs and became a monster the moment he was paired with Tazer. You let the presence of Chara break that up, give it to Boston. I agree, pairing #19 & #88 totally changed the game. And the Slovak connection has turned Handzus into a valuable player. If they struggle, you can always switch.
  4. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Royals now 29-32, winners of 6 straight and tied with Cleveland for 2nd place, at 5.5 games back. A week ago the Royals were in dead last and 6.5 games back. I think June will be make or break for KC, they are 7-2 so far, with this schedule coming up... 2 v. Detroit (Wade Davis v. Scherzer, Shields v. Verlander) 4 @ Tampa 3 @ Cleveland 3 v. White Sox 2 v. Atlanta 4 @ Minnesota It's funny how playing Houston or Miami makes a team suddenly look alive again. (Unless you are the Angels) Sox went throught that a couple weeks ago.
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) I'm more surprised about the top 6, really. But I may even think about playing Mayers at this point, if you are taking Stalberg out. Just due to the experience factor and he'd likely stay out of the box more than Carcillo would. None are great options though. People are saying that they want Toews & Kane separate so that one of them can avoid Chara. Keep them together and it's all Chara all the time. I agree about Mayers, but he seems to have gotten in Q's doghouse before the playoffs last year and can't get out. Either way, that player will play maybe 5-7 minutes, so it's not that big of a deal.
  6. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 11:30 AM) Not this again. It's not like Stalberg has brought much to the table this postseason. If Q wants a more physical lineup, I think I would prefer Carcillo who has a little hockey still over Bolling. It's not like there are gonna be any fights.
  7. ESPN Chicago ‏@ESPNChiHawks Sharp, Toews, Hossa together. Handzus w Kane and Bickell. Bolland between Shaw and Saad. Kruger between Frolik and Bolli
  8. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:01 AM) I think Tebow could get some looks over Brady. Tebow brings a running ability which Brady does not. Plus Tebow is a guy who just wins. Tom Brady has lost 63% of his last 8 playoff games. Tim Tebow is .500 as a starting QB in the playoffs.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:50 AM) So how about moving past the thread ruining TV talk and start some series predicts? They split the two games in Chicago, then do the same in Boston. Hawks win the decisive game 5 at home, then win the Cup on the road.
  10. The NHL thread had 10x more action than the NBA thread yesterday, and there wasn't even a Hawks game being played. Go Hockey!!!
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:27 AM) I understand Lackey has gone thru some personal stuff recently, but what a tool he was last night. Totally uncalled for. Fine or suspend him. Like divorcing his wife battling breast cancer? f*** him.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 07:24 AM) This is where the eye test comes in. Dunn has been playing into defensive sets that use extra defenders against him. He hasn't been unlucky, just stubborn. One of my biggest pet peeves is when Hawk among others complain about how the shift takes away another base hit from Dunn. The shift is there every single time, it's not bad luck at that pont.
  13. Can Puig close? He can do everything else.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) Well we've already covered the reasons why they are there. It's not like they ARE on Hawkvision, making people pay each game. My solution - this isn't directed towards you because like you said, you'd watch regardless - if you don't want to watch, or if it's too difficult for you to find NBCSN, don't watch. In the long run though, more exposure is a good thing for hockey. With what could be a thrilling championship series, the NHL would be better off if every game was on NBC and they didn't have to succumb to NBC's contract terms, and that sucks IMO. The game seems to be thriving, time to show it off not hide it.
  15. QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:57 PM) TNT is totally basic cable. According to this site, TNT is available in 98 million homes, slightly more than ESPN. http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/I...arch-cable.aspx NBC Sports is available in 78 million. Yet there aren't any NBA Finals games on TNT or ESPN. They are all on ABC, what a concept! I'd pay for HawkVision if I had to to watch the Stanley Cup Finals, but yet I still think it's very dumb that the games are on different channels, including a less popular cable channel.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) I have DirecTV. NBC SportsNetwork is freely available on the same tier that has NBA TV and MLB Network. How many NBA Finals & World Series games do they broadcast live on those two networks?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) Of course...one obvious solution to this is to stop losing seasons to lockouts where you completely screw over your perspective TV deals for the next decade. The league wants on NBC, the league has to actually earn it. The product on the ice is doing a solid job of selling itself...as long as it is actually on the bloody ice. Luckily for them, it doesn't appear that ratings dropped at all this season, so the fans came back. But yeah, networks can't make money when they don't have any games to show.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) If you want to watch hockey, you will figure it out. It's the old joke people use to knock hockey every year, OMG I can't find the games, etc. Except it's not like it was when it was OLN (still didn't have much of a choice there, either). Almost use it as an excuse to not watch it. Here's an article with a couple good points about why this TV deal is pretty good: http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/conten...-be-winner.html Overall the TV deal is a positive, but the Finals games on NBCSN still suck. Its the biggest moment of the year, your championship, and you are limiting your audience. There's nothing wrong with a casual fan stumbling upon NBC, saying "Oh, Stanley Cup Finals, maybe I want to watch this". Having it on a lowered tier cable network as opposed to NBC can potentially limit this.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) Fair point. I'd hope you get him at a discount, he puts up a good year and you can opt to move him for some talent. I didn't realize he was so old. Neither did I until people started bringing up his name in trade rumors. I always assumed he was like 27 or 28 right now, not 31.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:58 AM) Dude has put up an .800+ OPS every season of his career but 1 in Dodger stadium. Plays a solid defensive outfield, hits from the left side, good OBP. I think it is highly unlikely the Dodgers would have any interest in the deal (since it would mean moving Adrian Gonzalez to the OF or I suppose playing Dunn out there)...however, if so, we'd be getting a far better all around player. Dunn has what, another year left? I agree you'd need some cash to come as well since at this point the Dodgers want him out (and to be frank...at least based on all the rumblings...he's wanted out for a couple years too). I just worry about his age 34 & 35 seasons at the end of the deal. If he declines, then you are stuck with an expensive platoon player that you are looking to salary dump on someone again.
  21. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) It did, but you knew that ahead of time. I know, I totally miscalculated by a week.
  22. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:24 AM) Why you don't voluntarily schedule anything in advance for the last two weeks of June. The stupid lockout threw everything off. The Finals against Philly started Memorial Day weekend.
  23. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 10, 2013 -> 10:20 AM) On another subject...I'm all for a Ethier for Dunn deal. Maybe if the Dodgers pay for half of Ethier's contract. He is still due $69 million from 2014-2017. No thanks, I'd rather just eat the last year of Dunn's deal.
  24. For our anniversary I bought tickets to go see Book of Mormon. Date/time of the show? June 22, 8 PM. DOH!
  25. So why exactly is Nadal so good on clay? Or Federer on grass? I don't really get the specifics as to why certain players play better on certain surfaces.
