  1. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 03:17 PM) I've always wanted to sit by the glass. Seems like it would be pretty cool. I got free tickets on the glass for a Wolves game not long ago, it was pretty fun. Chris Chelios was playing which made it even more enjoyable.
  2. QUOTE (zenryan @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) I have no problems with Oceania getting an automatic bid to the Confederations Cup. For starters, its really just a meaningless tournament. Practically a warm up for the organizers to run a smooth tournament. Plus it gives Oceania a chance to play against the world's best. I realize it's a meaningless tournament and it's fine when New Zealand makes it, but I just don't see the point in having Tahiti show up to lose 3 games by a total score of 20-1.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 02:46 PM) No. Please read everything I've said. If you can use hindsight to find reliable predictors of future events, you are finding something worthwhile. But if you can deduce nothing, you have no choice but to consider the events to have occurred randomly or by something undetectable. Example: If no one can tell you why Adam Dunn sucks, it's not fair to fault someone for not predicting that Adam Dunn sucks when he didn't suck before. Then how can you hold the FO responsble? If it's random luck that he sucked, it's not their fault.
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) That's surface-level, factual information, but it's useless for any type of decision-making. If you could tell me WHY he was a bust and how you could have known, then it's useful. Otherwise, it's random happenstance. You make a deal for prospects that have a good chance to succeed and a good chance to fail because you HAVE to. It's the only way to acquire affordable talent. You take a risk. Just because Hosmer busted doesn't mean it was LIKELY he'd bust. People thought he was among the safest prospects around. Even if you have an 80% chance to win, you're going to lose 20% of the time. You can cherry-pick busts all you want, but for every horrible trade there's a great one too. The Indians traded Bartolo Colon for Cliff Lee, Brandon Phillips, and Grady Sizemore. They all had a chance to bust or hit, and it turned out that they all hit. You don't evaluate their decision to trade an aging star player for three lottery tickets based on whether or not the lottery tickets hit. If I buy a f***ing scratch off ticket today and win $50,000, that doesn't make me a financial genius. Judge me on the fact I decided to spend a dollar on a 1 in a million chance to win more. There is a reason why certain teams have more success with prospects than others. It's not blind luck that so many young Royals suck at baseball, while St. Louis can call up anybody from the minors and he seems to produce immediately.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) It's absolutely fallacy to act like prospect trades can be evaluated in hindsight. You're trading for probabilities. You're trading for guys who do NOT have the skills to be successful and hoping that they develop those skills. It's the FO job to pick guys that they have reason to believe will flourish in its own system, but sometimes guys just bust for no good reason. If a FO gets them wrong too much, the FO gets fired. If you traded Sale for all those guys at the time it would have been a haul, and looking back it would still be a haul. Eric Hosmer in 2010 is NOT the same thing as Eric Hosmer in 2013. By your logic, you can't evaluate draft picks in hindsight either. You draft a guy on probability, if he doesn't flourish in your system, it happens sometimes, oh well.

Looking back it would be a haul of garbage. If you traded for Hosmer in 2010 thinking you had the 1B of the baseman of the future, you set that position back several years because he sucks. No one will care that he was highly rated at the time, a bust is a bust.
  7. Have fun on your cattle ranches El Caballo. Thanks for some major power hitting, absolute domination of the Cubs, and being part of the trade that helped bring a WS title to Chicago.
  8. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) By far the worst part of being where Pierre is....is Pierre. Imagine how much it has to suck for the Canadian reporter that shares that space with him.
  9. Puck Daddy with some excellent analysis of Corey's glove side, Toews' "slump", among other things
  10. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 10:34 AM) MLB I was reading the responses. I can't see playing baseball in Taiwan would translate to going back to hitting ML pitching. Has his suspension ended? Some of baseball's drug users seem to have this arrogance. He had a short contract expecting some ML team will be calling just like Sosa waiting for that HOF call. When you read some of the reactions, I wouldn't be surprised that outside our lifetime the steroid users will be in the HOF. As they should be. It was part of that era as the commish let it happen. Like it or not, those were the best players of that era and they deserve a spot.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 01:05 AM) Unfortunately, the Cardinals are the best-run franchise in baseball and don't do stuff like this. Or if they do, they probably know something about those players and want to get rid of them.
  12. I think he is referring to all the golf they will be playing in October with PK in Arizona.
  13. Obstruction of justice arrest warrant issued for Hernandez
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 10:18 PM) If you know how to follow the game, there is nothing better than the sights and sounds, along with the extra chill in the air. You can get all that stuff 8-10 rows off the ice, without all the view obstructions that come with sitting on the glass.
  15. Jason Marquis struck him out....he's human!
  16. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 05:11 PM) The Phillies sent 2 stud prospects to the Astros for Hunter Pence. The Giants sent the Mets one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball for a 3 month rental of Beltran. Just to name 2. They happen - they aren't common - but just bide our time. You lose value when you're won't pick up any salary and you're too anxious. I just looked that trade up. One guy has a career OPS of .722 in the minors and the other has a 3.82 ERA. Studs?
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) When is the last time a visiting team won a 7th game in the Finals? 1978, Washington over Seattle, although there have only been 5 game 7s since then.
  18. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 05:58 PM) Elevation to see the play > seats on the glass Absolutely. Best seats in the house are around row 10 or so. Our tickets are in row 10 (in the 300 level)
  19. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 08:24 PM) If Spain doesn't put up double digits, it will be an upset. It was almost an upset, but they snuck in that 10th goal at the end. May have to re-think that Oceania spot in the 2017 Confed Cup.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 08:04 PM) Well, went and did it again...traded in my Q5 for an Audi TT convertible...the girlfriend has always wanted a convertible, and I want my sports car back. I don't need the suv for the dogs anymore because she has a Honda Pilot that is paid off. Driving to SLC tomorrow to pick it up. Probably will take her for a spin when I get back tomorrow afternoon and pop the question...I think she'll be a happy girl...here's hoping she will anyways... Baller.....good luck man!
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:38 PM) Don't worry, now that Flowers's hot streak seems to have ended, the people who have been saying he's sucky and a failure and should be replaced will get their way pretty soon. Good. We don't have enough threads about catchers on PHT.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) Twins have good fans. They draw 30000 or more all summer and like to watch average to poor baseball. That's because they have a beautiful new ballpark. Since it opened, average attendance has dropped from 39k to 34k to 30k. I'm sure next year will go under 30 with their roster.
  23. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) These are all so f***ing great. http://imgur.com/a/GVHkJ My favorite. Thanks, those are hilarious.
