  1. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) That idiot Bernstein was talking about this on the radio a little earlier. He was acting like it was stupid not to trade Sale because "he won't be pitching for a White Sox World Series team anytime soon and the pieces you'd get might be on the next winner." Sale is 24 years old and signed through freaking 2019 to a team-friendly deal? How the f*** does this guy get paid to analyze sports? "Juan Uribe will never be the starting SS for a World Series champion."
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 05:21 PM) I'm surprised Heyman specifically says Keppinger's name has come up His versatility to play multiple infield positions could be helpful to an NL team.
  3. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 05:33 PM) "Although Ramirez has only one home run this year, that executive pointed out, "He's hitting .280, has 18 stolen bases and plays good defense.''" Quick, trade Ramirez to that exec's team before he realizes how many errors Ramirez has committed. Holy s***, that's a lot before the All-Star Break. I had no idea he had that many.
  4. Normally I'd complain about not wanting to trade Konerko, but with his performance the last year or so, he won't get you much anyway. Let him finish the season (maybe career) in a Sox jersey.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 04:42 PM) I was at a wedding where an hour into the reception a bridesmaid announced to her husband that she wanted a divorce. Two hours in she announced she was moving in with a close female friend and they were in love. Three hours in the bride started throwing punches at her for ruining the wedding and taking center stage. Best damn wedding I have ever been to.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 02:54 PM) I don't know why you guys want to trade pitching. It's like you want us to be out of the race in April the next several years. You know how long it's going to take to rebuild if all facets of our team suck? You trade from your strengths to shore up a weakness. It's common business practice.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) Dan Johnson is the best hitter in the major leagues based on my opinion of him in game 162 from last year Since October 3, Dan Johnson leads the majors in OPS with a staggering 3.000
  8. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) May take a hometown discount, per the Score update. I heard that too, but what else can a guy say at the season-closing press conference. It's much easier to say that until some team throws stupid money at you, we will see. Would be nice though. Some good quotes from the press conference today: Hossa: "I haven't slept in two days but don't tell my wife, she's in Europe." Kane: "The last few days have been more tiring then the playoffs." Seabrook: Not really thinking about a third cup right now, guys just want to drink some water
  9. Probably have to wait until it cools down in September. You know how f***ing hot it will get sitting outside for three hours with the bag over your head?
  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Real smart move by the Sox. They are marketing the whole thing as "Continue the party with us at 4:10 after the parade", as well as opening up the parking lots at 6 am tomorrow so fans can park at The Cell, take a train or bus to the parade, then come back to The Cell for the game. Nice job, Brooks. Don't they always open the parking lots early if you want to train to downtown for work then go to the game in the evening?
  11. LeBrun (ESPN) reporting that the Hawks have been shopping Bolland already. Clearing up cap space for LeCavalier? Also, Montador & Olesz will be bought out. (Who?)
  12. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 10:22 AM) I think I got it. Cap advantage recapture...there's a new term: http://thedecadentmoose.com/marian-hossa-a...liance-buyouts/ That's absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe they didn't grandfather those contracts in, they were legal when signed.
  13. LOL at Donovan McNabb: https://twitter.com/donovanjmcnabb/status/349996538770108416
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 12:16 AM) Awesome. Where did you pull that from? A buddy saw it on Reddit in a Hawks thread or something, so figured I would share the wealth and stick it to the man.
  15. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 01:58 AM) Every time I look at box scores these days, it kills me. All off season I was hoping/wanting/calling for the Sox to swing deals for Alvarez and Dominic Brown. If you believe the reports, Brown was in the doghouse and could have been had for very little as Philly had about given up on him. Alvarez also had his issues in Pittsburgh but I'm not all sure he was made available. I'm sure he could have been had though. Both of them are having very nice years and now the cost to acquire them would be prohibitive. Those two are also good examples of why I think, even though they have struggled, it's still way too early to write off Viciedo or even Flowers. Considering that he's still in Philly, I wouldn't believe those reports. Somebody would have traded for him.
  16. "NHLE" code gets you 30% off & free shipping from the store at NHL.com. Nice discount off the overpriced championship gear.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) With Tex officially out for the season, Konerko seems like a perfect fit for the Yankees. Does anyone know if that catcher they have, C. Stewart, is any good? Nothing like replacing an old declining 1B with another old declining 1B.
  18. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:45 PM) See I view that trade totally differently. The Teahen trade & extension itself was dumb, but the second Jackson deal was KW taking advantage of the Jays desire for Rasmus. The Cards wanted EJax & weren't going to make that deal without him, so Kenny rightfully got a good prospect out of them (Stewart was a good, highly rated prospect with a nice arm who busted, as is typical, let's not rewrite history) and then Kenny made them eat Teahen's deal. Frasor was the add-on kind of piece there. That was actually a huge haul for Kenny for a 1/2 season of Jackson, and an excellent example of him taking advantage of a very unique situation. The lamenting of the Jackson-Hudson deal just needs to disappear from these boards. We tried to win, we didn't, oh well. We didn't miss a beat in the SP department, we actually got better even without anyone we were talking about at the time coming through. Still the biggest & most hurtful move during that time period was the one we didn't make, where JR blocked KW from firing Ozzie's ass. Well said.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) St. Louis is a fun spot. Had my bachelor party there for a Hawks/Blues game, good times. Havlat scored the winning goal. In OT, naturally. Guy was a beast in 4-on-4.
  20. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 02:13 PM) Morel is going to go 1 for 11 with an accidental poke single to right A poke single by Gillaspie is how this whole situation started.
  21. And down goes Federer too? What is this, the NCAA tournament?
  22. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Been charged with murder. That escalated quickly
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:35 PM) It's really amazing how butthurt detroit fans are about the Hawks winning the cup. Considering what went down from about 1994-2009, they can all eat a dick.
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 26, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) B-R's WAR (bWAR) is calculated differently than fWAR and is considered by most to be inferior or more flawed. Both have their shortcomings, and neither are wrong, and Marcum has been a worse pitcher than Peavy this year, but I personally believe fWAR shows a better portrayal of the type of pitcher Marcum has been this year as opposed to bWAR. There really is no reason that Marcum should have a 5.76 ERA other than dumb luck, because he has absolutely pitched better than that number. If interested or bored, these will help http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/differences-fwar-rwar/ http://www.fangraphs.com/library/war/calcu...g-war-pitchers/ It's kind of hard to trust WAR as a stat, when different people calculate it differently.
  25. So Bergeron is back in the hospital with a hole in his lung. They aren't sure if it was caused by a broken rib or by a pain-killing needle. Yowza.
