2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
LittleHurt05 replied to He_Gawn's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Big Ten Network is running an all day marathon of the best B1G games from 2013 if you are need of a CBB fix. Illinois just knocked off #1 -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) When a team has just won 11 out of 13 and finally come home, you really don't expect 20,000+ on a Friday night? That's crazy. We're 28th in visiting attendance. Don't you think that says more about the Athletics than the White Sox? Or does that ruin your agenda too much? Oakland hasn't averaged 21k in 6 years. They last averaged 30k 21 years ago. But tonight's crowd was solely because of the White Sox. GMAFB.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:19 PM) Well, as bad as they are, they're playing a lot of even worse teams the rest of the month, besides Oakland (the only .500 or above team on the schedule for weeks)... Which will mean they'll muddle into July with the front office spinning that they're still in contention. 16,416. Not even visiting fans want to see the White Sox, considering how hot the A's have been the last two weeks. Oakland has averaged barely 20k over the whole season, including Opening Day and games vs. San Francisco, but today's number was the White Sox fault. Of course.

My bad guys. I turned the game on right in the 8th inning as the Axelrod/BFBC pitching duel blew up. I jinxed it.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:11 PM) No doubt about it. They would have had a great chance to win it all last year. Got to take advantage of those opportunities when they come around, because nothing is ever promised tomorrow. I never root for injuries, but I would love to see the Strasburg situation blow up in Washington's face. So easy to root against them.
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) To be fair, the Sox have only 1 more postseason win than the Royals in the last 7 seasons. How many postseason games have the Royals played in the last 27 seasons? To be fair.

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 31, 2013 -> 02:44 PM) Great post. Would he still be playing a lot if this sport was NFL or NBA? If a guy was this bad and this much a waste of space missing jumper after jumper and turning the ball over every time he touched it, wouldn't he be benched or released? If a big lineman allowed sack after sack after sack even making top dollar, would he be benched or released? Just cut Dunn, please. I can't believe he got on that "hot streak" and now is back in the tank. It look like he was determined to make contact and thus, hit the ball over the fence to left center and center. It'd be so awesome if he just quit. NFL contracts are not guaranteed, so that's not a good comparison. If baseball had the same salary rules as the NFL, he would have been cut already because the Sox wouldn't be on the hook for the rest of the contract.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 31, 2013 -> 02:15 PM) Great, we woke up the Cubs They are just ruining their draft pick for 2014, Theo can't be happy.

Conor Gillaspie for Luis Valbuena

How many years/dollars would you give to Granderson?

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 31, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) Exactly. What would people be willing to pay Shin Soo Choo? I'd love to see him at the top of the lineup. Choo and Morales is my "dream" offseason. Hope that Beckham or Ramirez can be competent in the 2 hole then role with a Choo-Beckham-Rios-Morales-Viciedo-Dunn-Ramirez-Gillaspie-Phegley/Flowers/? lineup for next year. Choo is one of my favorite players to watch, but he is gonna be mighty expensive. First (and only) shot at free agency at the age of 31 and his agent is now Scott Boras. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 29, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) An upcoming 24th season of MTV's The Challenge, entitled Rivals II, is expected to premiere June 26, 2013. RIVALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLSSSSSSS Teams have been announced, premiere date is now July 10, 2013.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:38 AM) Travis Wood is 2013 for Randy Wells ***awaits fathom's response***

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) THIRD BASE - TWTW Conor Gillaspie vs Luis Valbuena. Valbuena had as many jacks over the past two weeks as Gillaspie has in his career. EDGE CUBS Valbuena career SLG%: .356 Gillaspie career SLG%: .385 But two weeks is more important than 1000 previous career ABs
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:33 AM) Oh, his OPS for the month of May is .672. Starlin Castro's OPS in May is .612. CUBS MEATHEAD
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:06 AM) has Gillaspie ever played any position other than 3rd? and If Francisco is a solid upgrade from him, why would we expect he'd get through waivers? 31 games at 1b, 2 games in LF, and 500 games at 3b throughout his professional baseball career.
-
QUOTE (Brian @ May 31, 2013 -> 07:24 AM) Rosenthal and Mujica both had pitched 5 days in a row. Should've kept Maness in who toyed with Butler the previous inning. One could argue that's brutal managing as well.
-
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ May 30, 2013 -> 11:43 PM) Serious question...Is Carlos Lee retired? Would he come back to platoon with Dunn? Near vet minimum? Would it even be worth it at his age? He was awful last year but the year before he batted .348 with a 1.028 OPS against LHP.... It'd also be nice to let him finish his career where it started. He very well could be done and sitting at home getting all out of shape. You can't get out of shape when you never were in shape in the first place.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2013 -> 10:31 PM) Brutal managing by Matheny trying to have Boggs get the save. I think even the White Sox offense could score a run against Boggs this season. Just gifted KC a comeback win.

A young lefty 3b is the one thing the Sox do have. I don't see a point in going after Francisco.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 30, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) I told you all coming in that the Cubs hitting from their pitchers has been unreal. What a joke the Sox are this year. 19 RBIs in the month of May -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 30, 2013 -> 01:32 PM) Pouty Paulie pop-up instead. Lead off walk dies another death for this pathetic offense.... I like that nickname -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2013 -> 12:43 PM) And you guys wonder why I keep saying that it's useless to try to develop talent because if it doesn't succeed in the first week, it's declared a failure that should be replaced. This post made me look up his stats to show how truly bad he was and his numbers surprised me. The 5.02 ERA is ugly, but his WHIP was only 0.98, and opponents hit .157/.259/.333 off him, which is great. It seemed like everytime out there he gave up a walk and a homer, but that's not true of course.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 30, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) I don't think Escobar and Perez are the young guys who need communicating with. Are Hosmer & Moustakas bi-lingual?
