2013 Spring Training catch all thread
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) I hope you're right, but the way they want more games within the division so there are more games within the same time zone for TV revenue purposes, it scares me they'll just blow it up and make it even more regional. This is year one of Astros and Rangers in the same division. I think the Diamondbacks would have moved to the AL, but MLB wanted to use Astros/Rangers as a test to see what happens with attendance and TV ratings when they play each other head-to-head 19 games a year. If there's a noticeable spike over the next 5 years, then we'll see what happens. Personally, I would have moved the D-backs to the AL, eliminated divisions, and played a more balanced league schedule with 18 interleague games, and top 5 of 15 qualify for postseason. Consdering how bad the Astros are going to be, I'd be shocked if there was any noticeable spike over the next few seasons. -

Seabrook is out tonight (day-to-day), wonder if it has to do with the puck to the "midsection". -

QUOTE (TomSeaverFan @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 01:38 AM) What is Loria's motivation in owning a major league baseball team? Seriously. It's like he played a huge joke on the rest of baseball before last season in acquiring some highly priced real players and hiring Ozzie Guillen. Have they not gotten rid of all the high salaried players now? Are the Marlins going to win 50 games? Arguably they will have the worst team in baseball, right? So what is the motivation to own a team if you are going to strip it to nothing? I don't get it. Why not let somebody else own it? He can't be a popular figure in Miami. $$$$$$$$$$ -

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Feb 19, 2013 -> 01:26 AM) What history/record is there to be made, please share. Most consecutive games to start a season without a regulation loss. The record is 16, which the Hawks could tie tonight. (Anaheim set in 06-07, when they won the Cup) -

QUOTE (TomSeaverFan @ Feb 18, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Saw that quote from Mark in the deadspin story on Buehrle. Glad to see he's willing to blast Miami Marlins ownership. http://deadspin.com/5985005/mark-buehrle-w...nned-in-toronto The Marlins single-handedly screwed over two White Sox, Mark and Ozzie. At least that's the way I see it. How exactly did the Marlins screw over Ozzie? He made dumb comments, his team underacheived, yet he is still getting paid $7.5 million to sit at home for 3 years. -

Clayton Richard & the Padres agree to a $5.24 million deal for 2013. That's a lot of money for a guy with a career 4.92 ERA on the road, mostly in the NL. Batters have hit .301 against him away from Petco. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 01:24 PM) I think the Dolphins disagree. I'd argue that they agree and soxfan49's stats back me up. NASCAR and college football rule Florida, pro sports are much, much lower on the totem pole. -

It's cool to see the captain stand up for himself, but we don't need something to get broken on a flailing punch, so no more fighting please #19. That's what Bollig and Mayers are on the roster for. -

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 16, 2013 -> 08:44 AM) This guy has got to be the worse owner of any sports franchise. If it wasn't for The Heat, I'd actually feel bad for Miami fans. Don't worry, there really are no pro sports fans in Miami anyway. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Ha, that's the exact spot we placed out "Send LeBron to Chicago" billboard. /f***me Maybe a similar billboard would have done a better job convincing LeBron to come to Chicago?

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) That's because he was pushed in very hard by IIRC Seabrook. It was actually a good no-call. I think you go to the games so you likely didn't see a good replay, but it was the right call. Gotcha, thanks. Yeah, they didn't show a replay. I kind of assumed they let it go because of a push, but when the mob around you demands justice, it's hard to give the refs the benefit of the doubt! -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) Karlsson recalled from Rockford. Crawford isn't at morning skate. No word on if injury/illness or something else. Stay tuned. Hopefully nothing too serious. Best-case scenario: flu Worst-case scenario: He got injured when a Duck crashed into the net in the 3rd period Tuesday. (And no penalty was called after the Hawks got whistled for the same thing) -
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 08:59 PM) Im liking the Americans, but those 100s were new Benjis not old benjis. So does Greg officially work for the KGB? Or is he more of an independent contact that Elizabeth trusts (and f***s)?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Feb 15, 2013 -> 08:47 AM) Why does everyone in Russia have a camera in their car? In Communist Russia, car video tapes you.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:46 AM) Again, so there's zero competitive balance, it's all about how much money a school has and how many boosters a school can sell on giving a big donation. College athletics would be immediately ruined. How is that any different than college athletics today?
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) NBA teams should be able to draft Lebrons kid. Now obviously US law would make it pretty difficult for that kid to be a worthwhile, but an NBA team should absolutely be able to waste $5mil per year and a roster space on a 5 year old. Hollywood hires child actors. I think that's what they do in European soccer. Manchester United will see a 9-year old tearing it up, and they will sign him and put him in their camp. Most of the youngsters never make it, but they are signed from a very young age.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 10:47 AM) I dont think it is a completely different discussion though, I think it somewhat dovetails into it. Say these kids are finally getting a cut of the pie, are we still complaining it isnt fair? Say Noel is making, i dont know, a couple hundred K at Kentucky, getting his degree(right), and his surgery and rehab is all covered, does the age limit to enter the NBA seem to be not as big of a deal? I'm not as bothered about the unviersities not paying the players, as much as the NCAA rules prohibiting side jobs or accepting any kind of benefits from people on the side. If someone wants to give the kid money or a bulls*** job because he can play b-ball, who cares? Who is the NCAA to stop it, when they leech money from corporations everywhere during bowl season.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 14, 2013 -> 10:40 AM) I don't see why these kids should be forced to make money for the NCAA for 1-3 years while receiving no compensation for themselves. That's a whole other discussion in itself.
