Snowmageddon 2013!
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) In the 20's/30's, I doubt school EVER closed, regardless of weather. And that's why Hitler was defeated. Those extra days American kids spent in school gave them the strength and knowledge to defeat Nazi Germany and Japan. Today they would destroy us in a war.

Snowmageddon 2013!
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 11:13 AM) I agree. While safety should be taken into account, it seems like they're ready to jump the gun for any reason whatsoever, to delay or excuse education or anything that's inconvenient or hard in life these days. It's like were looking for additional excuses to make our kids even less educated/competitive with the rest of the world, and of course, we'll blame the lack of funding for it, despite the fact we spend more per child than any other nation on the planet, and continue to rank like 15th, if we're lucky. IMO, this is just another excuse. Oh, and that makeup day in June where the kids show up to school and do nothing all day...yea, that'll help them compete later in life. If we had this many snow days in the 20s & 30s, I guarantee we would have lost World War II.

5 Questions: White Sox
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Possibly, but that's not the point. How did opposing offenses perform at the Cell last year? Is it really that hard to believe that both us and our competition are affected by the park? That was point he was trying to make. Being 4th in runs doesn't necessarily mean we had a good offense last year. By the same thinking, he should talk about how our pitching staff is underrated because of the Cell. They are to forced to pitch 81 games there, despite being 20th in ERA, they are much better than that.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 09:03 AM) I get what he bases it off of, I even said it in my post. I just don't understand the point of it. All he does it take the teams that won that week and they go to the top. He could just call it the "teams who won this week index." So last week 1-14 Penn State was easily one of the top 3 teams in the Big Ten, right? You have to play really well to beat Michigan.

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) I do. That Orioles team reminded me a lot of the 2001 Twins. That was a great growing year for them. Whether the bullpen will be as good or not I'm not sure, but a lot of times in baseball you see that all it takes to get a team rolling is to get them winning. I see there Pyth W-L catching up this year and portraying a more accurate, 85-88 win team in Baltimore. They have a good offense, save 2B, and they have a pretty solid pitching staff too with the best pitching prospect in the game waiting in the wings. That bullpen is still incredibly talented. I don't see Baltimore going away for a while. I do see them finishing 3rd, but that's different. My predicition for regression may be a bit agressive, but that's what happens when you have arguably the luckiest season in the history of baseball. Their rotation has talent, but it's young and I don't trust them to be consistent over the course of a full season. And that bullpen is due for a hiccup or two.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 5, 2013 -> 08:24 AM) Well, it's going to be a dog fight between them and Boston anyways. Unfortunately I don't see either of them finishing behind the Orioles this year.

Trade possibility - Dewayne Wise to Yankees
They Yankees won't give you anything of value for D-Wise in March. Players of his skill level are always available for free before April. That doesn't even include young players who could get hot and play until Grandy gets back.

5 Questions: White Sox
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 4, 2013 -> 09:02 PM) I agree that the heading was stupid, but the point remains the same. The offensive wasn't great last year despite being 4th in runs. IMO, the offense should be about the same, but I'm expecting Viciedo to have a big season. If he doesn't or if Konerko suddenly ages or if Rios doesn't have another crazy year, then the offense could easily be worse than last year. So if the offense is the same as last year, wouldn't they finish 4th in runs again?
