-Hawks lost that game in the 1st period. With 4 power plays and a 5 on 3 for over 70 seconds, they needed to get at least 2 goals to put VAN away early. Ending the 1st only down one kept the Canucks in the game. -This team is soft and the Canucks know it. On the post-game show, I heard they are averaging 20 more hits per game than in the regular season. Yesterday the Hawks just kept getting knocked off the puck. -The core guys are definitely worn out and it shows. From the conf. final run, then the Olympics, the Cup run, and all the "playoff" games at the end of this regular season, they are tired and just don't have that extra gear they need. They are trying their ass off but it's not there. -With all the talent on this roster, the future is still looking very bright. The salary cap should go a bit higher and there won't be a Conn Smythe bonus to pay, so they might be able to add some depth to the roster. And the guys will have a summer to rest.

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 12:14 PM) Murph is back on the radio! Siked to hear him back on the air. Now if only ESPN1000 put him on 9-1 weekdays so I could have a legit alternative to the horrendous Mac show which unfortunately took Murph's place on the Score. Mac is the new Coppock. Ugh, no thanks on Murph. Awful. I am sick of Mac though. All he ever seems to talk about it is how he hung out with this famous athlete, or someone got him these awesome tickets, or he got a new fancy TV or something at his house. We get it, you are successful. You don't need to brag about it on the radio and act like you are just like the average listener.

you can be 22, have fun, and not be a d-bag, it is possible. But whatever. The word is that Bickell is a healthy scratch tonight, to be replaced by John Scott.

How many of the losses have the Sox actually been "beaten"?

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 11:25 AM) The Sox torched Soria. So when the Sox bullpen blows up, they beat themselves. But when a top 5 closer gives up 4 runs with 2 outs, it's cause the Sox are that good. Gotcha. -

The wife and I talked about hitting up the local OTB, then we found online horse race betting. Now she's asleep and I'm boozing, betting on horses in Australia...good times I guess

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) R u implying that im an alcoholic? If u r? Well, your right. But I am fare. And that would be too much for me to digess. I would jus ask kalapse to ban me. Actually, I was referring to the vodka I have been drinking. I think our bullpen is too good to not turn this around, but if they can't, Peavy as a closer could be an option, well at least, better than EJax.
-
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 17, 2011 -> 12:01 AM) I'm not saying you should/shouldn't make Peavy the closer, but if you are playing him 15 mil no matter what he does, you might as well do what's best for the team. Once the checks are signed, it doesn't matter what role a guy has or if he plays. That's very true. It would suck to pay a reliever that much, but you already bought the contract, so whats the difference. Make it work for your team.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 11:58 PM) Wait, you too? I will personally tell any mod to ban me if they went that route. I would go Columbine crazy if that were to occur. It may be the vodka talking, but if it doesn't get better in the bullpen I think it's an idea. If Peavy can't stay healthy in the rotation, maybe a few innings a week as closer will keep him pitching all year. Like I said, I don't suggest it right now, but I could see it if the Santos thing doesn't work out.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 11:29 PM) If Humber looks serviceable as a No. 5, why don't we make Jackson the closer? He has nasty nasty stuff. First of all, I think it's dangerous to trust Humber for a whole season. Secondly, I actually had the same thought, but was thinking Peavy as the closer. He's got the stuff, and with his injury history it might help him to only pitch a few innings a week. But then again, I can't agree with paying a reliever (not named Rivera) over $15 million a year.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 07:06 PM) I still get shocked at how many empty seats are at heat games and the lack of any atmosphere whatsoever. Why? Miami is the worst pro sports town in America and its not even close. (Atlanta is a distant 2nd)

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 08:09 PM) This would be a HUGE mistake and it ain't gonna happen. Kane is the real deal and is only going to get better. This. He may not be an all-around player like Toews and may be a d-bag off the ice, but you don't find talent like him very easily. He averages over a point a game and has offensive skills that very few in the game do. $6.3 million is a big number, but that's how much any player like him costs.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 16, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) While that's funny, I was being totally serious. We were dead to rights, as well as the rest of Pelham had that thing hit the ground. You could hear the grimness in the voices of the weathermen as they were talking about it. My bad, that was a very drunken comment. This morning I did self-question my posting of it, but glad to hear everyone is OK.

Pacers coach Vogel on D. Rose: "He’s got Allen Iverson’s speed, Jason Kidd’s vision, Chauncey Billups shooting and Michael Jordan’s athleticism, how do you guard that?''

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 11:49 PM) I feel lucky to be alive. What the weathermen were calling a "supercell" funnel cloud passed right over my house. They were talking like had it touched down, it would have been devastating. There are pictures people took that show it almost touching down. F***, I wonder what it's like to not live in fear of tornadoes. That was just Marshawn Lynch running around...

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) So would it be fair to say that it's almost a lock that the Kings will move to Anaheim next year? Jerry Buss is the one factor that prevents me from calling it a lock. He has some power in the NBA and I'm sure as hell he doesn't want 3 teams in the LA area. (Well more like 2.5, but Blake Griffin is changing that)

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2011 -> 01:27 PM) Too bad we can't have flexible start times so we could throw out the 1st pitch exactly 2 hours before a storm arrives. That would give us enough time to make the game official. make that 1.5 hours for MB starts
