  1. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) I seem to recall more than a couple posts trying to deter you from posting so often and starting so many thread but I may be mistaken. To your credit you do not let it deter you. I have not started one thread, so you must be mistaken.
  2. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 02:25 PM) Leave the guy alone. He has made the 40 man roster in less than a month despite taking abuse from so many. His resolve reminds me of that character in Million Dollar Baby, Danger Barch. Ain't nothing gonna knock him out for good. I have? Honestly, like I told Tony, I'm usually in umpire school at this time, but we're out for the summer, and now I'm just trying to follow the team as much as possible. With so much time currently on my hands, like I said, I'm trying to follow the team way more.
  3. That Ladd signing happened a good 2 weeks ago, apparently the final touches were finished today.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) Seriously, step away from the keyboard. I didn't mean it like Massett would take over for the rest of the year- just one start for Javy. If he really is tired like many on this board pointed out in the game-thread last night, he might be able to use a missed start.
  5. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:46 PM) I don't trust Tallon for one, and I also don't think the Hawks are in a position to throw a truck load of money at either player, which is what it would take to get a top tier FA to come to Chicago. In the case of Hossa, I think he is just whoring himself out to the highest bidder. There is NOTHING wrong with that, I just don't see the Hawks being that bidder. With Campbell, I think it will come down to the Rags and Hawks, with the Rags offering a better deal, and it's closer to where Campbell wants to be. If I had to choose, I would much rather have Hossa on the Hawks, but it might be a blessing in disguise if the Hawks miss out on both. You're sort of in the same state of mind as me it seems when it comes to DT. Until he makes a huge move, I'll take all of he and McD's comments about how there will be top tier FA's here as grains of salt. I think if we miss out on Hossa which seems likely to me, I think we will get Campbell. If NYR offers him $8 a year, I think we'll go one better.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) The Hawks will be "lucky" to get one of them. What makes you think that?
  7. I'd love to see us set the rotation like this: Buehrle Massett Contreras Danks Floyd This way, Javy can get a break. He looked really fatigued yesterday for whatever reason- Danks can pitch against the Cubs again and hopefully pitch similarly to what he did Friday, Floyd can pitch the 2nd game- I put him here because I would really like to see him throw against the Cubs and watch them attempt to hit that nasty breaking ball he's got, and then Buehrle can face the Cubs, which is what he's scheduled to do on Sunday anyways.
  8. from TFP Go get 'em DT!! I understand everyone's worries that getting both guys for probably $15 million combined will kill us in the long-run, but frankly, I think that's a load of crap. If we spend that $15, that means we'd go over this offseason's cap space by $7. Next offseason then, our cap space could be as high as $18, but with these 2 signings, it'd be as high as $11, which isn't so bad. Even then, we could sign a great goalie for $5-$6 per, or a solid back-up for Crawford if he progresses the way I think he will for $2-$4. So like I said: Go get 'em DT!!
  9. The Baltimore Sun reports the O's have called up Ryan Bukvich.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 01:43 AM) Dye did well I agree; I don't know about AJ. He hit a lot of weak grounders. Maybe he got more hits than I remember. We looked like a team that missed Thome and Konerko (the good Thome and Konerko, not the ones that sometimes suck). You're right. He was 2-14 in the series, my mistake.
  11. Blame the conditions for the fact that we stink. Good logic.
  12. QUOTE (the People's Champ @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 05:51 PM) I'll admit, they STILL aren't going to win the World Series. I'll put money on that. Oh yeah? How much?
  13. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:54 PM) It sucks but the Cubs are a good team and are very tough to beat at home. Im curious to see how the rest of the season goes. I really have no idea and wouldnt be surprised if we finished first or fourth. Which then comes another smart comment from me- "We won't be playing Kansas City if we get to the playoffs so we better learn how to beat bad teams".
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) That is a ridiculous statement. Not just cause his name is Grady not Gardy. Give me a break. Lots of things happen. You can't point to one thing like that. Hey in 1967 if the White Sox had not had their heads up their ass the last 6 games of the season they might have won the WS that year. Look it up. s*** happens. I make a lot of dumb statements, but yours is as bad as they come on this board. Exactly. I credit Crede's walk off HR vs Cleveland as the real dagger. They closed it to 3 games and that made it 4 with I think like 7 games to play. But definitley, like you said, many things played a role in it. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:33 PM) And if Graffnino doesn't boot the double play, we go to Boston tied 1-1. If A.J. isn't awarded 1st base, we might go to Anaheim down 2-0. If the Jermaine Dye 3-2 pitch in game 2 is properly called a foul ball, maybe PK never gets the chance to hit a grand slam. You need breaks sometimes. Yeah, and if we didn't pick up Geoff Blum the game 3 HR might not of happened, if Clemens wouldn't of gotten hurt in game 1, etc.
  15. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:04 PM) Was told earlier: "You win some, you lose some. Get over it." That's brilliant. Maybe the Sox could have used that as their marketing slogan after last season. Would have gone over real well with the fan base, imo.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) I really thought we were a better team this year and deep down refused to think they'd sweep us this weekend. Now that we looked horrible in all three games with the exception of only Danks (who else gets a passing grade, maybe Carlos?), I deep down wish I would feel we are capable of sweeping them in the Cell to get even. I will say Friday's game again will be the key. If they beat our dysfunctional team in Game One, you are right, they may sweep us again. Unfortunately we have some games before then. Guys have to step up and beat somebody on the road. Dye played well. AJ did alright.
  17. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Just wait 'till our sweet-swinging .691 OPS first baseman gets back in the lineup. Can you say domination?
  18. from dailyherald.com from TFP on who we're interested in. from sportsnet.ca
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) I like the way you think! June 23rd, and the Sox are in first. If someone would have told me that in March, I would have taken that in a second. Yeah, but if you were to tell me we'd be in first by 6.5 games on June 9 and only 1.5 games up only 13 days later after losing 9 in a row on the road, I would have said by the ASB we'd be in 2nd by 2-5 games.
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:23 PM) I understand the Cubs have a stellar home record, but they're not going to win every one. I just hate the equivalent of shrugging our shoulders and saying "oh, well, Cubs are good at home and that's that." Aka the Johan Santana defense. And how does playing at Wrigley Field have to do with their inability to advance runners, Vazquez/Contreras soiling themselves, or the bullpen giving up HRs? I guess I should expect a sweep at home against the Cubs since we have a good home record, right? Of course, there will probably be another excuse when we don't. Such as, "can't win every home game-" which only applies to us and not the Cubs. Exactly. May God bless you. I was just going to post the exact same thing for the most part.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 10:21 PM) We lost to a better team this weekend. They've now won an astonishing 31 of their last 36 home games. And who says they're not good?
  22. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:18 PM) Okay, I see only two things happening vs. the dodgers. Either we sweep them easily and everything once again is fine in White Sox land (until we fall apart again), or we get our asses handed to us and panic really starts to break out. I take choice C- we win 2/3.
  23. QUOTE (Felix @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:16 PM) That's not what I think at all. I think it's terrible that the Sox got swept, the same way I feel whenever they get swept. Does it matter that its the Cubs? No, it'd be 10 times worse if it was the Twins that did it. But this was one s***ty series. It's not the end of the season and it's not even close to the end of this playoff race that we're in. The Sox definitely need to be more consistent if they want to stay in it for the long run, but it's much too early to start giving on a team that plays 162 games during the regular season. Exactly. Well, we've lost what now, 9 in a row on the road, we can't hit unless we face scumbags like Ian Snell and Tom Gorzelanny. We can't beat teams better then us (see, Cubs). We get 2 singles and we think it might be the start of something, only for the next guy to do the ol 6-4-3/4-6-3/5-4-3/1-4-3 DP. Then, with 2 outs, we hit solo HRs.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:14 PM) What you saw this weekend was the result of two teams that get most of their wins at home squaring off... the hometeam swept. Next weekend will be quite different. Come on. 11 runs in 3 games will not get it done.
  25. QUOTE (Brian @ Jun 22, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) If Kemp was a lead off type guy, I'd be for it, but we should be shooting for the stars instead of the ceiling. And I'm sure Kemp has plenty more AB's than BA, so that really isn't a fair comparison. So you're saying if Anderson had as many ABs as Kemp, he'd be a 25 HR, 100 RBI, .295 hitter? So I'm guessing you're suggesting we try to pry Pierre from Colletti's hands?
