  1. The combination of cowbells, ridiculous mohawks, and 80's wrestlers HAS to be the lamest thing I've ever seen in my life. That is the worst baseball city ever. The WORST part is how clever they think they are with their little trinkets. So original.
  2. QUOTE (MO2005 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) Well I want this guy GONE! And he will be.. He talks and talks and talks, but can't back up s**t! Great he gets hits with no one on base, but over the last month he hasn't been able to drive in a runner in scoring position. He is a cocky player who thinks his s**t doesn't stink and overrated! His defense has sucked this year, his throws are like lobs to first, and is a rally killer like the majority of this team! If he's going to talk and try to pump his team up he has got to get people to buy into him. But how can you buy into someone that goes come on guys let's get some hits and drive some passion, but then ends up striking out for the third out or grounding out with a runner on third. He Stinks! Joe Cowley.. is that you? OK, so besides trying to defend himself in the beginning of the year, and speaking for 45 seconds on that stupid radio show, what else has this guy said that constitutes "talks and talks and talks?" Seriously? Even reporters say he never talks to them and trys to stay away from the media. Wouldn't you stay away if you got ripped every time you opened your mouth? And, how do you know they haven't "bought into him?" Didn't you see AJ out of the dugout right behind OC when that pitcher was approaching the plate? He played 160 games this year, OK defense and hit .280 in the lead off spot (which he didn't want but never complained about.) Enough said. Stop your crying and look at the facts.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 01:30 AM) I hear where you are coming from, nice second post there. But my opinion is he didn't really look that passionate. He looked kind of quirky or dorky doing it I thought. I guess my anger does stem from the fact it didn't work and he whiffed. I think what he did was wrong. I think you answer back with your ability and not that kind of antic which was counterproductive. I agree, and it is awesome when it works out like that... but unfortunately it didn't this time, but I gotta say I think its nice to see some extra passion and spark out there. I feel like I'll take it in any way that it comes! Even when it was TCQ punching his bat, or AJ screaming like a lunatic in the dugout. So, while it does certainly suck that it didn't work out, this is a game where you're a superstar if you fail 7 out of 10 times, so its not always going to go your way. But I do appreciate the effort is all I'm saying.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 4, 2008 -> 01:11 AM) Sox 1844 you are just wrong on this one. He looked like a fool. You answer back with a base hit there. He looked like a complete idiot and then promptly struck out. He was a fool. A total fool. Get a base hit and then bark at the pitcher. I can't believe we're not in 100 percent agreement he was an embarrassment with that episode. Get a fricking base hit. THAT would have been the answer and then bark at him from first base or tell the media after the game WHY you were so fired up to get a hit. Stupid move by OC. OK, my friend, I agree that would be the IDEAL outcome. No one is going to argue that. I'm sure he was hoping for a jack right there more than anyone on earth. Clearly, you can't win them all. And after the game, he manned up and said it was the heat of the moment, he gave it everything he had, and he lost that battle. But if we're talking about intention, passion and grittiness, I don't think it gets any better than that. Again I say, if it had worked out for him, you'd be praising him for his toughness, etc. It didn't, but I think you have to give him credit for trying, leaving it all out there, and for at least backing up Uribe when the guy was screaming F-U at him after every pitch. And for coming back the next day and getting 2 hits. Its easy to be negative in a situation like that, but if you really look at the whole picture, I think it was what (southside) Chicago baseball is all about.
  5. I loved it. If he had gotten that clutch hit, everyone would be calling him a genius. At least he was willing to put himself on the line to defend his teammate and get everyone fired up. Did it work? No. But his intentions were good. This is classic "Chicago tough." Put yourself out there, try your hardest, and hope for the best. Good for him for trying whatever he could to pump some life into this lifeless team. Did you guys see A.J. out there defending OC? A pumped up AJ is a dangerous man, so obviously it worked. We need more guys like this.
  6. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 02:57 PM) No, what's weak is the sophomoric argument that you're presenting. Do you think that sulking in the dugout when a teammate homers would do anything positive for him? Perhaps you forgot about Cabrera throwing his teammates under the bus last week. You know, the comments about everybody goofing off and not focusing (except for him, apparently). Does that sound like a good teammate to you? I'm not arguing that Cabrera isn't a team player AT ALL, but I've seen enough this season to conclude that he's most interested in looking out for himself. Sophmoric is making a decision based on what the media tells you to think... Did you even hear what he said on the radio? No one got thrown under the bus, my firiend. He said WE about everything, and like everyone else, he was frustrated with their play. Whats the big deal? He didn't name names, he didn't point a finger, he said WE need to work on XYZ. Why does that bother you? What did you want him to say? Lie like everyone else and say its great that we blew the lead? Your argument is hypocritical in nature, how can you say that he's so selfish to throw teammates under the bus on the radio, but he when he's celebrating grand slams, he's acting?? I don't understand how you can say both things? Who are you to say when he's "acting" and when he's being sincere? You're making an argument based on a preconceived decision that he's selfish, and thats not fair. Its actually rather childish.
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Oct 2, 2008 -> 12:14 PM) They can have both of them. Crede's back is completely messed up and Cabrera's me-first attitude may be more of a problem than his age and declining range. They can all be "me first" if it gets us to the play-offs! And I still don't see what this guy has done that was so selfish... guy played 160 games for us this year and put up pretty good numbers. Can't complain about that. But I can't see him in a dome either. I'd guess Dodgers.
  8. Cowley said Baines is in the hospital with an ulcer.
  9. I feel myself die a little inside every time I hear the words "Chicago" and "tough" in the same sentance.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 27, 2008 -> 01:02 AM) Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, OC. Our organization is better than you. Bye bye. This organization is an embarassment. Absolutely disgraceful.
  11. What he said is not "ripping" anyone. There is no need to make this bigger than a guy giving an opinion.
  12. QUOTE (CarlosMartinez @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 06:46 PM) I respect what he's done on the field, his D has not been of the gold glove variety though. What I'm saying is the guy has rubbed people the wrong way from the day he got here. And how many teams has this so called leader played for? If he was so valuable and had was such a great clubhouse presence, he would have stuck with a team by now. I love that he's been a fairly consistent bat and filled our leadoff role, but it is a contract season.... I just think feel his comments this week may not have been the best thing, no matter how much truth he spoke. Those words should have come from AJ, PK, JD, Thome, or Crede if he were playing. Guys who have been in the clubhouse for a few years. Not a guy who's a 1 year rent-a-player. As for Ozzie treating him as a fall guy I disagree. Ozzie said OC's comments were fine but he spoke from the perspective of the other guys on the team, watch what you say because it may come across the wrong way. Also, don't suddenly start talking to the media in the last week of the season and come off as some great team leader. Do that from day 1 no matter how you or the team is playing. If you look at his career numbers, he's above his career averages. What more can you ask for? Also, over a 10 year career, is it really uncommon to see time on 3 or 4 teams? I don't think thats unreasonable enough to indicate a major personality flaw. Every time this guy plays an old team all you can see is hugs and laughter. Mike Scoscia hugged him like a long lost son! Those words maybe should have come from someone else, but no one else said anything. Except Ozzie, who loves to name names (Javy most recently) and put guys on blast personally. Everything Cabrera said was in general and he said "we" about 30 times. I don't think anyone should care how long you've been in a particular clubhouse, you shouldn't have to walk on eggshells after you are a 10 year vet. I just don't understand this team.
  13. QUOTE (CarlosMartinez @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) But you can't have an entire team of guys with that approach. Good teams have an even mix of guys who lead by example and guys who will chew a teamates ass when necessary. Right now we have too many "lead by example" guys and their example has been bad. JD has been a shell of himself for over a month, PK had a good couple of weeks all season and Thome is Thome, whether thats a good thing or bad. We have two guys right now making noise, AJ who has earned that right with the Sox but his production has been down and OC who hasn't fit in with this team since day one. Maybe if he didn't make the season all about "OC" then his teamates and fans wouldn't be upset with him telling everyone whats wrong with the team. I must be crazy. I haven't heard one thing from Cabrera since the last time Joe Cowley tore him apart back in May. Not one thing. How can you say that the season is all about OC? The guy grinded and pulled him self from .206 with Swish and Thome all the way up to .283? With 19 stolen bases and solid D. If that doesn't deserve a little respect, I don't know what does. Geez. At least the respect to be able to answer a question truthfully with out being torn to shreds. I agree that good teams need an even mix, but how can you show up every day knowing that your manager will throw you under the bus in a hot second if he thinks he found a fall guy? Ozzie's comments were insane.
  14. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 26, 2008 -> 04:13 PM) First off, Dye didn't call the fans ignorant. Second, read these boards for a while, and you can understand where that thought would come from, even if he didn't say it. This whole topic is totally ignorant. There are posts in here talking about shipping both Dye and Konerko away, but keeping Cabrera, because Cabrera is a "leader". Really? So because all you see is a guy talking to the media, instead of keeping it in the clubhouse, he is a leader? Because Dye and Konerko don't whore themselves out to the media, and keep things "in house", they aren't "leaders"? Bulls***. You HAVE to be kidding me?? Cabrera didn't name names, he merely calmly answered a question that was asked of him. Whats the big deal? Should he have lied and said that everyone holds hands and sings in the clubhouse? Why does everyone need to slap a label on what he said? The guy was answering a question and did so honestly. So what? These guys have so much pressure to talk to the media, but whenever they do - they get crucified.
  15. He's the One guy who goes out there and plays every single day... I think he's earned the right to say whatever he wants too. I just can't believe Ozzies comments back...
  16. I've never hated Ozzie more in my life. He is DISGUSTING. What an embarassment.
  17. Tell me how Ozzie, the great manager, is still talking smack about the only guy who is showing up in his whole line-up.....???????
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:39 PM) So you think he is wrong, and the losers on this team that have spent the last month choking in fear are right? Good riddance indeed, moves like letting him go are why we consistently fail in September (and October I guess you can throw in there, even though we haven't been there and failed in 8 years), outside of 2005. It amazes me more and more by the day that 2005 happened, because every other team of ours finds a way to blow it. Always. How can you say good riddance? Seriously why? He has been consistent and we haven't had to worry about shortstop. Unlike previous years. I don't understand what this guy has done to make people dislike him. Because Joe Cowley said so?
  19. QUOTE (aboz56 @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:38 PM) Wait, you're calling a guy who helped lead the Sox to a World Series a bum and Orlando Cabrera a winner? The Angels surely didn't miss Cabrera and he's not exactly lighting the world on fire for the Sox. This is absurd. Compared to 05, what would you call "on fire"...??????? This is NOT an issue. The White Sox acquired him as a rental, and he's done his job. Why make more of it than it is??
  20. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) I never said that I disagree with what he said. However, I think now was a not a good time to do so. I feel that it would be Ozzie's job to say what needs to be said, not OC's. How do you figure? When IS a good time? Why would you respect Ozzie? Because he's proven to be so consistent and rational? Why shouldn't a guy say what he feels?
  21. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Sep 25, 2008 -> 07:33 PM) http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...-ssep25.article I don't understand two things what OC does here. He says: "There are guys that want to be clowns...". He contributes to all of that. What do you call all of his crazy handshakes during the games? Don't get me wrong, I think they're hilarious, but he shouldn't be talking about joking around during games when he participates in it. I also don't understand why he decides to make these comments now. Does he think this will help them in their game tonight? Does he think it will help them if they actually make the playoffs? What do you all think about this? He said there's a time and a place for it... can't argue with that. It is one thing to act a fool and show up at game time, and another to act a fool and play like crap. I agree with him 100%.
  22. I like this line-up. DWise should have starting leading off as soon as he got hot. OC has done a great job, but he's not a lead-off, and AJ is certainly not a #2 hitter.
