QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) http://m.espn.go.com/general/blogs/blogpos...op&id=67319 And their sub headline is an article on defensive rpm. It's like they just read my post. What the hell. RPM is ESPN's stat, of course they're going to be pimping it. What I don't like is that it's completely proprietary. They haven't really outed anything that truly explains how they arrive at those ratings. I can tell you how WAR is calculated because FanGraphs and Baseball Reference have entire sections on that. I like that they're trying to create something better than Win Shares for basketball, but I'm not sure a plus/minus scoring system is the way to do it.

NBA Thread 2013-2014
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 05:24 PM) His defense turned the Nets from about the worst defensive team out there to above average. It's still absolutely elite. And he plays 22 minutes a game so that he can play 30 plus for the playoffs. 2012-2013 Nets Def Rtg: 106.2 pts/100 possessions 2013-2014 Nets Def Rtg: 107.4 pts/100 possessions The Nets also allowed less points per game last year by almost 4 points (95 vs. 99). Garnett is still a good defender, but he's nowhere near as valuable as Brook Lopez.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) I just bought an Xbox One also. Should be arriving in the mail today. When they dropped the price to $450 and included Titanfall that was good enough for me. Also bought Dead Rising 3, NBA 2K14 and pre-ordered Watch Dogs. Should keep me occupied for awhile. I got Titanfall, Forza 5, and Dead Rising 3 is coming today. It's definitely more fun than the PS4 so far.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) Tried it, no luck. Guess I'll try T-Mobile tech support. For some reason, they don't have an e-mail address to contact. Did the factory reset delete all your apps?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 11:21 AM) I'd absolutely take Kevin Garnett playing defense at an elite level over Brook Lopez. Their results show the same. Except Kevin Garnett is no longer elite. And even if he is, he only plays half a game.

QUOTE (Tex @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 02:49 PM) Dallas is an 8 hour drive away and I'm blacked out. Really? Houston takes about 6 hours. I am blacked out there as well. 150 miles to watch a game in most city parks would be a 8 hour committment. that seems about the longest that makes sense to me. Dallas at least makes sense since I get Fox Sports Southwest here in Austin on Cable. But nobody gets CSN Houston here...that's the one that makes absolutely zero sense. Edit: wait 8 hours away...where do you live in Texas?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 06:58 AM) They are better without Lopez. I really don't think they are... You'd rather have a 37 year old Kevin Garnett and Mason Plumlee as your main big men as opposed to an extremely efficient 7 footer? Lopez gets a lot of crap for being a bad defensive player and a bad rebounder, but a deeper look says that's not the case. Good read: http://hoopchalk.com/2013/04/16/why-cant-b...s-out-too-much/

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:49 PM) And that one loss was in March when Brooklyn finally started getting their s*** together (Bulls first two wins were earlier in the year). I'd much rather face the Wizards/Bobcats and their lack of playoff experience, but avoiding Miami till the ECF is just too good to pass up personally. Bulls won one in February too.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 09:45 PM) Bulls should want nothing to do with the Nets in the first round. That was a struggle enough last year. No Brook Lopez this year. Bulls were also 2-1 against them in the regular season. That and home court make me pretty confident the Bulls can beat the Nets in the first round. It won't be easy, but it's doable.

Heat lose again. It looks like the Pacers will get the #1 seed. The Bulls should lose on Wednesday.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) Pence was terrible, and he couldn't figure out how to do some of the easier aspects. Conversely, Puig was actually quite good. He beat Pence in the HR derby twice, and then even beat Russel (SCEA Dev team) in HR derby as well. Game looks very similar to 2013, yes, but I'm still enjoying it like I always do. The biggest reason to upgrade is online franchise and year-to-year cross-platform saves. Can't wait to never start a franchise again. And no, Greggy Mills is a Cubs fan. As soon as Pence and Puig left he jumped in to a Cubs/Cards game because he wanted to see what Wrigley looked like (even though they always reveal a ton of Wrigley pics before each game's release because it matters I guess). Apparently Puig plays a lot of soccer video games, so he's probably just good at sports games in general.

2014 MLB catch-all thread
This new rule where you have to have a clean transfer to the throwing hand on a force out is ridiculous. Arencibia just caught a ball on a force at home, but bobbled the transfer (he clearly caught the ball) and they called the runner safe at home. The runner was nowhere near home plate. Instant replay was supposed to make sure the close plays were called correctly. Not stupid crap like that.

Trevor Cahill might be a pitcher to trade for
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) You left out our 1b, and just to stress, Gillaspie was actually below average last year (although I will note a lot of that is due to his 3-error inning in August and complete defensive collapse in the surrounding weeks., and thus he might be able to do better than that this year with regular playing time.) Gillaspie was a -3 for UZR/150, which is around average. But even then, a one year sample doesn't really say a lot.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 10:34 AM) Sooo, not with the Chicago White Sox Our infield's not bad. Alexei's above average. Gillaspie's around average. Semien's decent.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 14, 2014 -> 08:09 AM) I have a Samsung Galaxy s4. Recently my wi-fi and bluetooth both stopped working. When I press either button, they turn a dim light green for a few seconds, then it just shuts off. I have tried to Google a solution, but I don't even understand half these suggestions. Anybody have any advice as to how I might be able to fix this problem? Would a factory reset do the trick? Factory reset should do the trick. That reformats the /system partition, which is where a lot of your OS files live.

Cahill wouldn't be a bad guy to have. He's an extreme GB pitcher. With a good infield like he had in Oakland, he could be a very good pitcher.

Cleveland Indians @ Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 06:58 PM) Honestly I am more worried that Lindstrom is still hurt than anything. He is no where near his normal velocity. He's about 1.5 MPH off of his velocity from last year. But he's also getting up there in age (he's 34 now), so the decrease might not be entirely due to injury.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 13, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) Yeah! Hey Hahn---you have a decent team, and there's league parity. Fix the pen! Unfortunately, that's not easy to do in-season. Teams often overcharge for relievers, especially closers and setup guys.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 10, 2014 -> 11:40 PM) They do. They also just added the ability to stream directly to twitch.tv They work maybe 60-70% of the time. The software does learn to adjust to your voice as you offer it more commands, but even then, it works maybe 80-90% of the time. Plus, the Xbox On command never seems to work unless you're right next to the Kinect screaming at it. Even then, it's hard to get it to turn on.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 11, 2014 -> 01:18 PM) That'd be because he *is* wrong. When it comes to refresh rates/sports, nothing comes close to plasma. The issue with plasma has never been one of picture quality or refresh speed, the issue was of burn-in and it's non-efficient use of electricity in comparison to LCD sets. And as someone else correctly pointed out, LED *is* LCD, with different back lighting. There it is. And yes, you are right.
